brunei emery is one of those and some fans want him out. we will tell you the five nominees for sports personality of the year that we know about so far with just one more yet to be announced. hello. let's start withjofra archer — because the england fast bowler says he was subjected to racist abuse by a spectator during the final day of their first test defeat to new zealand. he made the claim on social media. the ecb and new zealand cricket are looking into it. well, our correspondent katie gornall is here. what more have we learnt today? well, i think it's interesting just how this news emerged because it was chopper archer who revealed it.
6:34 pm
joffre archer. —— 23. once he had got —— jofra archer. he was... after he tweeted about it the cricket board apologised to him. they said they're going to look through cctv and investigate and try and find out the man responsible. they also said that there will be increased vigilance. they said at the next test, in hamilton in a few days' time. the ecb are also supporting this investigation. in a few hours we should hear from the director of cricket ashley giles he is going to be giving a press conference in new zealand. we should have an update there. the ecb are clearly wanting to get ahead of this with the next

test just three days away. well, i've been speaking to the former england fast bowler devon malcolm, i was very surprised. i take it way back, i actually lived i was very surprised. i take it way back, iactually lived in i was very surprised. i take it way back, i actually lived in new zealand in the early 19805 when i first started playing cricket in new zealand. a couple of winters there andi zealand. a couple of winters there and i found the zealand. a couple of winters there and ifound the kiwis zealand. a couple of winters there and i found the kiwis are zealand. a couple of winters there and i found the kiwi5 are great people, fascinating people, and over the years i have always had new zealanders 5tay the years i have always had new zealanders stay in my home over the years. so there is always an idiot around who will probably come out with a racist comment. but in this day and age it is something that we need stamped out as soon as it rear5 its ugly head. it is to stamp on it
6:36 pm
very quickly. i was very surprised indeed, ya. what were your experiences when you were playing, evenif experiences when you were playing, even if it wasn't in new zealand, ju5t even if it wasn't in new zealand, just around the world?” even if it wasn't in new zealand, just around the world? i mean, what idid just around the world? i mean, what i did get, i just around the world? i mean, what i did get, i did just around the world? i mean, what i did get, i did get as you do, the way spectators are, spectators from the other side always given you quite a bit of hassle but not from a raci5t point of view. they wouldn't call you names like that. i don't know what was said to jofra archer but he is obviously very offended. 0nce but he is obviously very offended. once you are representing your country or representing your adopted country, it's difficult you are not doing that and they're trying to... having a racist comment comes across a5 having a racist comment comes across as very bad. a5 having a racist comment comes across as very bad. as i said, i am pretty, you know, happy with how swiftly the

ecb came out to try and support jofra archer and to put a stop to this as quickly as possible. and also the new zealand cricket board trying to take some action straightaway, trying to see if they can spot the culprit from some footage. it is something we need to ta ke footage. it is something we need to take out of sport and from all walks of life really. yeah. where you encourage that he felt empowered in able to speak out. yes, with social media and all that business, straightaway he put that out and the ecb picked that up and obviously the news around the world and they're trying to do something about it. i say nowadays you will probably go and if you hear something untoward 01’ and if you hear something untoward or upsetting in the crowd or anything like that, you will probably go and report it to your captain or you will probably report it to management. but again they

will make an assessment to say, ok, it is not quite as serious and things like that. but nowadays, you know, the platform is there and that can be put out there. as i said, it is great something is being done, or action is been taken to try and get supportjofra action is been taken to try and get support jofra archer action is been taken to try and get supportjofra archer back on track to getting back on doing what he does best, winning test matches and one—day games for his adopted country. we have seen this happen a lot recently, particularly in football. do you think cricket has a problem? yeah, i mean to be honest, football is a bad old thing that has been happening for years and i know the fa have been working very hard to stamp that out. yes, it has raised its ugly head off you are times in cricket. the ecb and various other cricket authorities around the world have been trying to
6:39 pm
make sure what used to see in the 19705, 19805, 19905 on the football field doesn't come across to cricket. from across sports, if it is in sports or normal workplace it is in sports or normal workplace it is something we can't tolerate at all. it is very bad when somebody... it is definitely something we need to ta ke it is definitely something we need to take on board all the way around. devon malcolm, a former fast bowler speaking to me earlier. still to come on sportsday... pep prays for a miracle, as injury to aguero increases city's injury woes. and we'll hear from the british hockey player sam ward, who's not ruling out the olympics — despite partially losing his sight. i know, within ten minutes have been

in hospital they were like, yeah, this is what's going on, you have fractures in your left cheek and we need that sourcing. now, will results at the weekend define the future of these three managers, all under pressure — arsenal's unai emery, everton's marco silva and west ham's manuel pellegrini? let's start with emery — his side were booed off on saturday, after it took a stoppage—time goal to salvage a draw at home against southampton. emery says it's up to him to get more out of his players. but fans aren't happy — they have now seen their side win just two of their last 11 premier league games. various arsenal supporters‘ groups have issued a statement addressing "grave concerns" over the club's future, worried about a slide in form, a lack of leadership from the hierarchy and the ‘toxic atmosphere' at the emirates stadium.
6:41 pm
this is one fan — pippa monique. i feel like he's had ifeel like he's had enough chances to imprint something on this club on this team. he has not imprinted anything. i don't know his philosophy, his tactics, i don't know anything. i don't even think the players know what they're supposed to do. i don't think the owner is ever going to give up this clu b owner is ever going to give up this club because he has heard the fans voice over the last few years saying they're voice over the last few years saying they‘ re unhappy voice over the last few years saying they're unhappy and they want him out. he never comes to games anyway. i don't think he is selling this business anytime soon. it is busily working for him, it is just not working for him, it is just not working for him, it is just not working for the fans. —— it is obviously working for him. well what about marco silva's future at everton? things went from bad to worse when they lost 2—0 at home to struggling norwich on saturday — a seventh defeat of the season. silva admitting afterwards his side were afraid to play football. some speculation today that he's on the way out — and former manager david moyes is even one of those names linked with a return to goodison park.
6:42 pm
well, mattjones is an everton fan from the blue room podcast. this point everton will be looking for managers who are either out of work, out of favour, orare desperate to get back into football. there is no point getting a manager who is not idealfor the role. with david moyes it would be extremely narrow—minded and very depressing for a lot of evertonians. granted he did a very good job at the football clu b did a very good job at the football club in his time but that was 2012 when he left the football club now. times have moved on, he's failed everyjob since then and i think the clu b everyjob since then and i think the club need to be a bit broader in their selection process then just go back to a fellow who did quite a good job for us last time. finally — in this triumverate of managers under pressure, west ham boss manuel pellegrini. he watched his side lose 3—2 tojose mourhino's tottenham at the london stadium on saturday — that a first away win for spurs since january. . .. good for them — not

so for the hammers — just two points from the last seven games.... that is really interesting when you look at where they were earlier this season. look at where they were earlier this season. the 22nd of september... a win over manchester united had west ham up to fifth. five losses and two draws since then has the hammers now down to 16th. up next, another london derby — chelsea at stamford bridge on saturday. no doubt the speculation is going to continue on all three of those premier league manager under pressure. let's stick with football, and more injury problems for manchester city. striker sergio aguero is going to be out for a few weeks, that's according to manager pep guardiola, who's been speaking today ahead of their champions league game against shakhtar donetsk tomorrow night. he picked up a thigh strain in their win over chelsea at the weekend. guardiola says aguero will "need a miracle" to be fit

for the manchester derby on 7 december. jose mourinho's also been talking today. he takes charge of spurs in the champions league for the first time since taking over from mauricio pochettino last wednesday. he was asked if he would sign zlatan ibrahimovic for spurs given that he's out of contract and they've worked together before. he says that would make no sense because he has the "best striker in england" in harry kane. kane himself has tipped mourinho to bring silverware to spurs. 0ne game in the premier league tonight as aston villa host newcastle and it's a match that means a lot to this man — steve bruce. he's now in charge of newcastle, but it wasn't that long ago that he was in charge of villa, leading them to the championship play—off final in 2018. he left shortly after and arrived in newcastle via sheffield wednesday, and says he has no regrets about how things have panned out. i thought i would have demanded a bit more time but it wasn't the case

after a difficult period really where the club financially was in a difficult place. we nearly got there, lost in the play—off final. but overall i can look back on it and say i thoroughly enjoyed it. it isa and say i thoroughly enjoyed it. it is a great club with big tradition but i want to go back and beat them, it's as simple as that. simple as that! and there is full commentary of aston villa against newcastle on bbc radio 5 live from 7 o'clock tonight. now to this man here — sam ward, because earlier this month he scored twice in the match that secured team gb‘s place at the tokyo 0lympics next year — but he also suffered a horrific injury in that game, which resulted in him losing the sight in his left eye. he says he will do everything he can to still make the games — and i spoke to him earlier about it all. 0bviously obviously i remember it, i could see everything. i remember seeing the
