lost any power ahead of his rematch with andy ruiz. i tell you, i'm itell you, i'm punching i tell you, i'm punching like a horse kicking back right now. hello, and welcome along to the programme. this thursday feels like it has turned into a waiting game over the future of marco silva as everton manager. his side dropped into the relegation zone last night after a 5—2 defeat by liverpool in the merseyside derby. the club's board have been meeting today — with the owner farhad moshiri travelling. —— travelling up from london for those crunch talks. our reporter katie shanahan is at goodison park for us.

marco silva is facing the sack, where did it all go wrong? marco silva has probably known this has been coming for quite some time, as everton‘s results have gone from bad to worse, especially last night where everton were thrashed 5—2 against their rivals, liverpool. marco silva looked deflated in the dugout, he didn't even acknowledge any of the team goals. that defeat has actually pushed everton into the relegation zone, recording their eighth defeat in 11 games. this is actually the first time in 20 years that everton find themselves in the bottom three after 50 matches. what we know is from today, the everton owner travelled up from london to merseyside. he met with marco silva before meeting the rest of the board members, then addressed the players.

we are waiting for confirmation from the club, but it looks like time is running out for marco silva. can you give us a sense of how the fans are feeling around this at the moment? we are getting a sense that the fans wa nt to we are getting a sense that the fans want to change. everton, a club that has great ability and have spent a lot of money, don't want to be fighting for the relegation battle come the end of the season. everton‘s owner has spent £450 million in the past three years, with the aim to get everton‘s plate champions league football. they were way off that at the moment so something needs to happen in the clu b something needs to happen in the club needs to listen to the fans. so what we hear is david moyes is the forerunner to replace marco silva. this has had fan backlash as moyes did spend 11 years and everton back in 2013. we all are so are hearing that tim cahill could be his

assistant. —— also hearing. they need to act fast because they have some fixtures coming up, chelsea over the weekend followed by manchester united, then lester, than arsenal. at the moment everton need to act fast to make sure they keep fa ns to act fast to make sure they keep fans onside and pull clear of the relegation zone. it doesn't get much easier. thank you. rhia chohan is at the touch—screen. i suppose you just have to look at the background to this? is notjust about marco silva, because there's been lots going on at this club since david moyes left back in 2013. yes, after the 5—2 thrashing in the merseyside derby, everton have been left in the relegation places. even silva admitted the club were "not good enough". he's on the brink of being sacked. and former everton manager david moyes could be set to return to goodison park. so let's go back. in the decade before moyes was appointed, everton had managed only one single

finish in the top half of the table — back in 1996. moyes reversed that trend, he guided everton to fourth place in 2004 — he signed players like tim cahill and mikel arteta, so he somewhat restored their pride. and even got everton to an fa cup final, they dared to dream. but ultimately, during his 11—year, spell everton didn't win anything before leaving for manchester united. so 2013 — in came roberto martinez. after he led wigan to beat manchester city and win the fa cup, and it was hoped he'd bring similar fortunes to everton‘s trophy cabinet. martinez promised to deliver champions league football when appointed. and that's what farhad moshiri wanted — in 2016, moshiri became a major shareholder, and one of the first things he did was give martinez his marching orders. they'd won just five league games at home that season, and were guaranteed to finish with their lowest points

tally at goodison park — and the club was down to 12th in the premier league. the spaniard was replaced by ronald koeman, who guided everton to an 11th—placed finish in his first season. everton sold romelu lukaku to manchester united for £75 million in the summer of 2017. koeman spent that money on new signings, but plenty of them failed to gel and the club found themselves in the relegation zone after nine games of the new season. in came sam allardyce. everton were 13th in the premier league when he arrived and he led them to finish eighth in the table, but he'd been heavily criticised by fans for his management and everton‘s style of play. the club said the decision was part of their "longer—term plan". and that plan was marco silva. he was farhad moshiri's first choice when he dismissed koeman. after playing at least 15 premier league games, everton find

themselves in the relegation zone since april 1999. could we see the return of david moyes? the suggestion has had a negative reaction from some supporters. mattjones here — from the everton fans podcast the blue room, said... and i spoke earlier to his fellow podcaster mark mosey about everton‘s managerial struggles. what managers have struggled for his balance. roberto martin has obviously had the all—out attack, ronald koeman struggled with his balance in terms of the rapport with the fans and the club, and he

ultimately failed to engage with his players, hence why we went down a pretty terrible time in terms of the temporary acquittance of david unsworth. it was very much divided with the fans, and i think if you look now at what is next for everton, like bringing someone like david moyes back, for everton fans, thatis david moyes back, for everton fans, that is an acceptance that nothing has worked since he's gone. then effectively writes off the last 6—7 yea rs of effectively writes off the last 6—7 years of this suppose it progress of the club. it would be a massive moment of reflection and disappointment for ever tony ends. so as mark said there, sarah, potential disappointment for everton fans. they could find themselves going in full circle. thank you so much. let's round up some of the day's other stories now. and toxic smoke haze from bushfires has been affecting play and conditions at golf‘s australian open, with players
