the winds have been howling in some parts of the country and over the next few days it‘s all about wind and rain. we will have some heavy rain and heavy showers combined with gales or severe gales. it is probably the strength of the winds that will have the biggest impacts. over the past few hours we have seen a lot of showers packing in from the west, really squally showers. the main focus of the wetter and certainly windy weather is more towards the south—west of england and into the south and west of wales. this is of course due to storm aliyah. we have already had gusts of 70 miles an hour along the south coast of wales and into cornwall. that has combined into big waves, rain should ease off in the morning. by then, the wind is more of an orderly, which will drag down cold air across the uk. quite windy for many areas, still, by morning. monday we will start see some changes because this ridge of high pressure will just topple across from the atlantic and it will push the strongest of the winds over towards the north sea and kill off

a lot of the showers. it will be windy for a good part of the day down the north sea coast and will feel cold with those morning showers in particular. a few showers out west filtering into the irish sea and south wales, but lots of the showers fading away in the afternoon and many places will be dry and quite sunny. it will be windy, but gradually they winds will ease a bit. probably feeling colder than it did on sunday. with the wind continuing to ease in the evening, there may be a touch of frost in the eastern side of the uk before the winds pick up again overnight, dragging on some mild air, and these weather fronts are on the way. tuesday, we have clouded outbreaks of rain. quite a few bands of rain pushing their way east. it‘s the last one that will see the heaviest of the rain, and some particularly squally winds as well. it will be a windy day everywhere, it‘s going to be mild, temperatures in double figures. that mild, wet and windy weather than get swept towards the south—east. out of the way by wednesday. we are all into chillier air, low pressure to the north—west of the uk, maybe gales in the north—west of scotland.
