on a path that we are now or even more severe, that will actually have really severe impacts in the future. so, there is the chance to make a difference? there is a chance, yes. don't give up hope. campaigners from oxfam highlight the dangers of rising seas, and say world leaders are failing to respond. david shukman, bbc news, madrid. it has been a good night for english clu bs it has been a good night for english clubs in the champions league with both liverpool and chelsea reaching the knockout stages. here's our sports correspondentjoe wilson. mo salah, they love him because there's no one like him. this game proved he can do anything. go on, score. salah is free and salah... very unlike him. did that just happen? still, start of the second half, salah could make amends. not that time. well, try two minutes later, salah just had to beat the goalkeeper and the goalkeeper won. funny, but remember, liverpool could not afford to lose this match.

10:34 pm
will come along. it was a defining night for the defending champions, liverpool defeating salzburg 2—0 to keep their hopes of defending the champions league title alive. defeat would have seen them phase out of the group phase, heading into the final round of matches. flashing red lights meant tangible to liverpool, in salzburg there has been signs everywhere of defeat. their striker should come with sirens. currently one of your a's most ruthless finishers, root liverpool consider that a warning. the first half regressed at a panicky pace, a blur of chances. blink and you miss it, as most alison howe did. and so it continued after the break, mo sala left speechless, all the while just one goal could knock liverpool out. imagine the relief when sadio mane queued up the keeper celebrations
10:35 pm
we re queued up the keeper celebrations were restrained as he once played for salzburg. no such qualms in the stands. they were still attending themselves when they defied geometry. the chances he missed forgiven and forgotten in a moment of brilliance. after turning off the warning lights, liverpool through with no alarms and no surprises. patrick gouiri, bbc news. we played really well but we didn't score when we thought we would score. staying on track and making a very decisive and difficult finish that says probably again, much more about him than all the goals he scored so far. sensational finish. chelsea are also through, beating a little 2—0. here isjust chelsea are also through, beating a little 2—0. here is just awfully. potential game for chelsea. a win and they'd be through to the

knockout stages. so this was a good start. joe says he did the last time these two met, putting chelsea ahead early on. while the weather might have abated, chelsea didn't. his proven experience is still needed. leal finally woke from their slumber. former chelsea man applied some pressure. one goal would have not chelsea out. their late comeback was just too little too late. frank lampard was just too little too late. frank lampa rd was was just too little too late. frank lampard was mcmahon went back again and joined liverpool in the mass 16. just softly, bbc news. manchester is in tottenham already in the last 16. a couple teams who won't be joining them, lassies and semifinalist ajax needed to progress —— ajax, as group winners ahead of chelsea. they lost

manager. england forward natalie harrell well has died at the age of 29. she was one of the club's longest—serving players. in a statement, they say their thoughts are with her young daughter and family at this sad time. the terror attack in pakistan in 2009 sent test cricket there in exile. but tomorrow he returns with sri lanka returning to play test matches for the first time in a decade, as rob heath reports. sri lanka's players are back in pakistan to play test cricket for the first time in ten years. the last time sri lanka played a series here, it ended in terror. the coach was attacked by gunmen. six pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed. miraculously, the coach and players made it to the ground in lahore.
10:39 pm
the team were evacuated from the stadium. the series was cancelled. now, the sport that means so much to so many pakistanis is back. the concerns that people had about pakistan were certainly for the last year or two were not what the ground reality is. we always had a very, very good relationship with the sri lankan cricket board and the very fact that they came and laid the t20 matches was a very strong signal. the wait for test cricket has been long. the anticipation is tangible. i have come back to pakistan after maybe 5—6 years, and it is quite extraordinary, because the last time i walked into pakistan into a cricket stadium it was the national stadium and there was nobody there. there were two people and their dogs. there is people training, there is an atmosphere of something really special
10:40 pm
that is about to happen. on the field, though, pakistan are at a low ebb. they have just returned from a chastening tour of australia, which saw them thrashed in both tests. their players know that they must improve, not least to inspire the next crop of stars. this is a chance for our young nation to finally watch their heroes and it was unfortunate that people, legends in our cricket, could not play in their home grounds towards the peak of their careers. in the new revamped stadium in rawalpindi, the names of former pakistan legends adorn the stands. the history of pakistan cricket has never really been straightforward. but amid the highs and lows has always been an insatiable love for this sport, and frequently outrageous talents to match. hopefully, now, that can be showcased without the unwelcome threats from beyond the boundary. rob heath, bbc news.
10:41 pm
such a significant moment for pakistan. russia will be missing from the global stage including the next olympics, the winter olympus, and the football world cup. athletes will not compete under the russian flag, but may be considered to do so under neutral nations, if they can prove they were not in the manipulated data... according to that us head of anti—doping league. the question is, are wejust that us head of anti—doping league. the question is, are we just going to pretend this didn't occur to? u nfortu nately to pretend this didn't occur to? unfortunately it appears that is what the ioc e — they essentially control it, that is what they have done since 20 eckstein, trying to put this in the rear—view mirror so it won't ever be held to account. that is a terrible outcome for clean athletes who got robbed, but it is more of a terrible outcome for any other country who might be tempted to do the same thing the russians
10:42 pm
did. and if you look at the example, you get caught red handed pulling off the biggest fraud in olympic history, and nothing will happen to you, and you can still fit in democrats and a full delegation of athletes to the big games to continue to win medals. that is just a simple and dumb echo system that cannot simply survive. next though, i'm going to remind you of some cheating scandals in sport because we find ourselves in the middle of another. remember sandpapergate in australian cricket, the infamous series in south africa last year which saw steve smith breakdown in tears as he lost the captaincy and was banned. deflategate — accusations patriots quarterback tom brady deliberately ordered the deflation of footballs so that they were easier to catch. how about the marathon runner who hitched a ride on a bus to get to the finish line? and the ultimate —

maradonna's hand of god. who can forget that? now golf and in particular patrick reid finds himself in the middle of a cheating storm after being accused of improving the lie of his ball by smoothing out the sand behind it with his club in a tournament in the bahamas, which is against the rules. he says he's not a cheat. others disagree. it's not the right word to use. at the end of the day, whenever you're out there, if you do something unintentionally that breaks the rules, it is not considered cheating at the end of the day, that is what it is. if you're intentionally trying to do something then, yes, that would be cheating but i was not intentionally trying to improve the lie or anything like that. if i was, it would have been a pretty good lie and i would mean close. reed will play for the us in this week's presidents cup and has been criticised by players from the opposite team. our golf correspondent, iain carter, says he's going to face some hostile crowds in australia. the video footage is pretty damning, particularly in slow motion. it shows patrick reed addressing the ball at the start of what were two practice swings. his clubhead is immediately behind the fall. he is on a sandy waste, which is
10:44 pm
slightly different to a bunker. he is entitled to ground his club there, but what he is not entitled to do is improve the lie, or the line of the shot. that is clearly what happened as he took the clubhead back — it brushed away the sand and therefore made it easier for the club to access the ball. as i say, the video footage, which was from an angle behind the golfer, is pretty damning. but when you come in to issues of intent, well, the waters become muddied. patrick is perfectly entitled to say that if it was accidental, it was not a case of deliberate cheating. what it does do is put a target on his back. he's playing for the united states in the presidents cup in australia this week. carlo ancelotti has been sacked

despite his... that's all from sportsday. coming up in a moment, the papers. hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. with me are the political commentator and former labour party director of communications, lance price, and the assistant comment editor at the telegraph, madeline grant. welcome to you both. many of tomorrow's front pages are already in, and as we enter the final day of the campaigning, it's no surprise that all the papers centre on the election.
