the gap grows wider at the top of the premier league as super salah flicks liverpool past watford. but it's a bad day for chelsea, who are beaten at home by bournemouth, while second placed leicester lose ground at the top with a draw against norwich. and saracens show their strength as mako vunipola helps them to victory against munster in the european champions cup. also coming up on sportsday. former scotland international doddie weir is to be presented with the helen rolleson award at tomorrow's sports personality of the year for his courage in his battle against motor neurone disease. plenty to get through and we will be looking ahead to tomorrow's sports personality of the year later, but we will start

with liverpool because they are continuing to impress in the premier league. they are 10 points clear at the top of the table after a 2—0 win over watford. the liverpool manager, jurgen klopp, admitted that it wasn't the "prettiest" game of football but mohamed salah scored two fantastic goals as liverpool remain unbeaten in the league this season. patrick gearey reports. having just signed a new contract, juergen coppell hardly be able to unpack a suitcase. first watford. they fought hard for the first half only to be undone in a few sublime seconds. mohammed sala is the master of such moments. not everyone makes it look so easy, sadio mane seem to

put liverpool 2— now up but out came the video referee. it is a game of the video referee. it is a game of the smallest margins. liverpool a lwa ys the smallest margins. liverpool always have an escape route. another incredible goalfor a always have an escape route. another incredible goal for a man who can manoeuvre out of any corner. i had of long flight, liverpool have a cushion. ben's moved over to the touchscreen with more on that match and the rest of the day's premier league games. 17 games this season for liverpool. 16 wins and i draw and when they take the lead at anfield, they seldom lose. in fact, you have to go back to october 2009 for the last time they led at home at half time and lost. that's a run of 99 games. that old cliche that the sign of a champion is the win whilst not at your best. liverpool weren't perfect today. not the prettiest of games is how jurgen klopp described it.
6:35 pm
we had to fight that is what we did, 85 minutes, he did some warming up exercises but the rest of the time he was fantastic. other than that, we have to fight for the result, that is what we did, and now we have three points. they'd have been watching on with glee in the red half of liverpool as second placed leicester could only draw i—i with bottom side norwich. with second bottom side norwich. an entertaining game this one at the king power. teemu pukki slotted norwich. jamie vardy thought he'd scored for a ninth game in a row when his header went in. replays showed it was actually an own goalfrom tim krul. it ends leicester's nine game winning run in the league. manager brendan rodgers says they now need to hit the reset button but with liverpool in the club world cup this week, they can close to gap to four points at the top before liverpool next play.
6:36 pm
fourth placed chelsea are having a slump too. surprised 1—0 at home by bournemouth, who'd lost their last five before today. the main action in the 84th minute when dan gosling nodded the ball over the line. the assistant referee initally flagged for offside but var had a look and saw gosling wasn't the player in. the goal was given and helps bournemouth up to 14th in the table. and just look what it meant to eddie howe and his players. a battling performance. for chelsea boss frank lampard, a fourth league defeat in five games is one he says his young side will learn from. we have to set our own standards and the position we got ourselves in a few weeks ago going to manchester city game was can we look upwards? now it has changed, now we need to show a reaction and get results, we have tough games over christmas. this was always going to be the case as far as i saw it, i got frustrated with people getting
6:37 pm
excited for us because i knew over the course of the season with our squad there would be tough moments and now we need to show. three other games today. chris wood's header gave burnley a 1—0 win over newcastle. their first points in four games. sheffield united's great season continued withjohn fleck‘s two goals seeing the blades past aston villa. in the late kick off — it's southampton 0 west ham 1. sebastien haller with west ham's goal. and what does this all means in the league then. liverpool's lead now 10 points over leicester who play manchester city next. chelsea will be looking over their shoulder — 20 points behind liverpool — as close to the top as they are to watford at the bottom. and just look at sheffield united flying high in fifth. wolves spurs and arsenal versus manchester city could shake all that up tomorrow karthi. but it looks like liverpool's title to lose.
6:38 pm
back to october 30th 1937, the likes of grimsby, bolton and blackpool were enjoying life in english football's top tier. manchester united had only won two league titles and were playing in the old second division. their game against fulham at craven cottage started a remarakble sequence that is still continuing to this day. tomorrow, their match against everton will be the 4000th straight game featuring a home grown player in their matchday squad. one of their most successful recent academy graduates marcus rashford told us how important it is for united's identity. the way the academy is set up and the way that they breed players it is no shock to me at all because it is no shock to me at all because it is like they mould you into a manchester united player. but the process begins before you can even remember. so before i came here,
6:39 pm
there were loads of different clubs and obviously my mum didn't know much about football, she supported man united. it was my brothers who managed to categorise a good academy from band. and a final decision came down to which club do you love and wa nt to down to which club do you love and want to play for? and once i went to united, it was perfect. everything you wish for as a kid. it is like my second home. ever since i started playing for united that is out it has been for me and i know that is how it is for a lot of the other lads. people say once you play for man united you are always a red and from that is true. when you are young sometimes it is difficult to see what the end looks like, your end goal. if you are in and around the first team you can see players that have done exactly what you are trying to do. and it makes things a bit more clear. if you have a fall short of going through that process
6:40 pm
of being a man united player you will play premier league football or ina top will play premier league football or in a top division, top league, so... they do not, they are notjust making manchester united players, they are making players playing everywhere that have come from man united. west brom have returned to the top of the championship after coming from behind to beat birmingham city. charlie austin came off the bench to score twice in their 3—2 victory at st andrews. the first was a pretty handy strike and the second will not be one the birmingham defence will want to watch again. west brom are two points ahead of leeds who threw away a three goal lead to draw with cardiff. leeds united could have returned to the top of the championship but despite having had a 3—0 lead against cardiff city, they ended up with a 2—2 draw. an excellent fight backfrom cardiff. — they ended up with a 3—3 draw. an excellent fight backfrom cardiff.
6:41 pm
preston north end beat luton to move up to third in the championship. brentford were 1—0 nil winners over fulham at griffin park to go into fourth in the championship. sheffield wednesday had an impressive 4—0 win over nottingham forest. at the other end of the table, bottom side, barnsley beat qpr 5—3. all of the scores from today's football are on the bbc sport website. aberdeen have moved up to third in the scottish premiership with sam cosgrove's 19th goal of the season earning them a 1—0 win at home to hamilton. stjohnstone moved off the bottom of the table by beating hearts i—o — a bad start at tynecastle for manager daniel stendel. ross county beat kilmarnock — also i—o whilst st mirren and livingstone shared a 3—3 draw. saracens made amends for last week's defeat at munster by winning the reverse fixture 15—6 at allianz park. a tight game was eventually sparked into life by two of sarries internationals. the result moves them a point behind second placed munster in pool 4. imran sidat watched this one. saracens defence of the champions cup has not gone to plan so far.
6:42 pm
they responded by bringing the big guns for the visit monster. i did not take the england captain long to get on the board. this penalty the only score in early exchanges. monster world dealt a pre—match below with injuries but they finally got the rewards they are pressure warranted when hanra han got the rewards they are pressure warranted when hanrahan kicked over to bring them level. it was turning into a to bring them level. it was turning intoa warof to bring them level. it was turning into a war of attrition with the kicking game proving to be decisive. hanrahan keeping his cool once again. the same could not be said about the rest of the players on the pitch, as jamie george's frustrations sparked a mass brawl. that seemed to provide the spark the saracens needed with belly valley polar leaving sean maitland free for the first try of the match. —— billy vunipola. this time it was mako vunipola. this time it was mako vunipola. the game was slow in the first—half, they were more enthusiastic than we were. which is
6:43 pm
unlike us. so we talked about that at half—time and came out and our intent through the roof, our enthusiasm was great thereafter.‘ result that revives the defending champion soaps in the competitions and provides the fans with some much—needed christmas cheer. there was lare drama at connacht as robin copeland crashed over with an injury time winner to beat gloucester 27 points to 2a, gloucester had had the lead until the 76th minute. gloucester stay in second place in the pool. leinster have already secured a bonus point in front of over a0 40,000 at the aviva stadium in dublin — they are currently leading 43—14 against northampton, dave kearney running almost the full the full length of the pitch to score this one. england went into their final one day international against pakistan hoping for a series whitewash. instead, they got a bit
6:44 pm
of a wash—out as rain thwarted their hopes of a 3—0 win. egnland had looked to be in a strong position before the heavens opened in kuala lumpur. henry moeran reflects on the action that was played in that game and the series as a whole.... frustration in the end for england unable to complete a clean sweep in this one—day international series because of the rain that has seen the post series presentation taking place behind me under shelter. 38 overs we re place behind me under shelter. 38 overs were all that were possible, include reducing pakistan to 145—8, more impressive bowling for sarah glenn, four wickets for just 18 more impressive bowling for sarah glenn, four wickets forjust 18 runs for her. now for heather knight a nswer for her. now for heather knight answer site is on to the t20 series as preparation for the t20 world cup begins to build. we did not start the best but we got it back brilliantly especially two spinners in the middle, four wickets, i was gutted for her she did not have a chance to finish off and try and

pick up the pfeiffer, a bit of a damp squib but overall happy. would have been your main takeaway is? what has been learned?” have been your main takeaway is? what has been learned? i think sarah has been a really good final making her debut in the first game, bowling exactly how she has done in the k sl, very consistent and a really good thing the batters have all scored runs, as well. which is what we have talked about going into the series to kick on and get the big scores and picking up the 80 odds which we haven't seen her do in an england shirt. really pleased for her to get the innings under the bag and it bodes well for the t20 is coming up. a lot of positives, three centurions and the emergence of the baller sarah glenn in particular. but there will be a sense of frustration for the first time ever they have played a one—day international against pakistan and been unable to force a victory.

nothing to do with them, that is the frustration of the weather here in kuala lumpur. let's take you quickly through some of today's other top stories. former wicketkeeper mark boucher has been named as the new head coach of south africa. they take on england in four tests, starting in centurion on boxing day. the 43—year—old played in 147 tests before retiring in 2012 because of an eye injury. australia are on top in their first test against new zealand in perth. mitchell starc took five wickets as the hosts bowled the black caps out cheaply in their first innings. australia are 167—6 in their second innings, a lead of a17 going into day four. in the nba, the milwaukee bucks beat the memphis grizzlies for their 17th straight victory. it's their second longest winning streak, second only to a 20—game run in 1971. memphis led at the end of the third quarter but the bucks came back in the final period

to maintain their lead at the top of the eastern conference. golf isn't a sport where you expect to see too much argy—bargy but emotions at the president's cup spilled over on day three in melbourne where patrick reed's caddie has been kicked out after an altercation with a fan. last weekend, reed was caught up in some negative publicity of his own after being accused of cheating at a tournament in the bahamas. fans have been a little prickly towards him in australia and as chris mitchell explains, reed's caddie — who's also his brother in law — took exception to some one spectactor in particular. this is not the kind of drama the pge would have wanted on day three of the presidents cup but it is the kind of drama many of us perhaps saw coming. i have been in amongst the crowds this weekend and they are pretty boisterous you have to say.
6:48 pm
therefore could point as patrick reed, everywhere he goes he is followed by chance of cheat and it can be worse and a little bit crass andi can be worse and a little bit crass and i am sure a bit irritating if you are patrick reed. sometimes the spectators have had one or two beers shall we say. so we did see this coming and it is no surprise that it has finally boiled over on the 16th green today as he was walking off, patrick reed and his caddy were confronted by a fan who got very close to him within touching distance and was abusive. his caddy thought he better step in and are physical altercation reportedly took place where the spectator may or may not have been shoved and spilled his beer. this has been as i understand caught on phones, there is some video doing the rounds right now, the pga have investigated, they have told patrick reed's caddy that he can take no further part in the presidents cup and will not caddy

for him in the sunday singles. it is a drama, i do not think it was a serious one, we all sought coming but it gives you an idea of the pressure, the boiling pot that is out there on the royal melbourne golf club and it is interesting to note it is that story which is already making the news headlines here in australia, i have already seen here in australia, i have already seen it in several news bulletins so it is doing the rounds and the pga would prefer us i think to be talking about what an exciting contest it is, the international tea m contest it is, the international team leading 10—8 going into the final day but we're still talking patrick reed. british showjumper ben maher has enjoyed an incredible season with his ride explosion. they ve won three tour titles, two european medals and the prestigious champion of champions event late last month, raising hopes they could challenge for olympic honours next year. before then though maher will compete at the olympia horse of the year show in london next week. nick hope has been to his yard in hertfordshire to meet him.
6:50 pm
explosion is being dubbed a wonder horse, a once in a generation star who with ryder ben maher is having an incredible season. esn incredible horse, he has the star quality when we have a day like today when you all, he knows they are here for him and he really loves the attention, he really wants to win as much as i do which is what brings us together after winning the procedures super grand prix, he is hopeful explosion can help him. i know what it takes to win team gold—medal but individually that is something i have not experienced yet, i have been individual silver medallist

twice, at european championships we try to learn from previous mistakes to see if we can produce a result next year. one say despite all ben maher success he won't be riding his champion horse at the season—ending world cup instead, he is using the festive event to blood some new talent. it is the fun show of the year, all about christmas, the fans and crowd make the atmosphere social pressure. done in style! going back with triple x a few years ago is something specialfor with triple x a few years ago is something special for me. we with triple x a few years ago is something specialfor me. we have f1 usa and nine—year—old stallion i have been writing for the past three yea rs. have been writing for the past three years. i hope f1 has the same ideas that we can try and go there and produce a result i know he is capable of. ben hopes to round off a stunning final year in london. sports personality of the year takes

place in aberdeen tomorrow night. doddie weir will be awarded this year's hellen rollanson award which recognises outstanding achievement in sport in the face of adversity. the scottish rugby legend was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2016. he set up the ‘my name's doddie' foundation, which has raised more than four million pounds for research into the disease. weir was also awarded an obe this year. from day one that you get diagnosed, you get told there is your care nurse, she will help you, there is nothing else we can do. i don't agree with that at all. everyone with motor neuron disease have basically has to self cure. i don't have a medical background so i don't know what i'm doing, whether or not it helps, pretty much every patient with mnd is going to go home and self cure which i don't think it is

agreeable. that has been my frustration for the last three years 01’ frustration for the last three years orso, frustration for the last three years or so, there is nothing there to help the patient. around about this time tomorrow that famous tune will be ringing out in aberdeen to herald the start of the awards. who wins the top gong is down to you too. six contenders to choose from. and some famous faces can tell you why they deserve your vote. this gets me going! you are a nominee! raheem sterling you are a nominee. ben stokes you are a sports personality of the year nominee, congratulations. you have had an amazing year but if we had to pick one thing it would be when you won the world heptathlon title which was a special moment but coming back from previous disappointments in the past we all know how much strength
6:54 pm
and courage that shows. if i had to pick one moment that was the best for me i think it would be the world cup final, i would actually, i was meant to be doing a gig that night and we had been watching it all day and we had been watching it all day andl and we had been watching it all day and i was about to go on stage and we we re and i was about to go on stage and we were all in the wings on the gag and we went on a little bit late, watching you win it on that and it wasjust brought watching you win it on that and it was just brought everyone together. congratulations on that. the bravery you show to stand up for what you believe in, especially for racism is incredible, url model and as a striker you are insane, that is one of the key moments. she had an absolutely incredible world championship, she smashed it, she made the country proud, she did herself proud, made everyone proud and brought it home. my favourite moment was the hungarian grand prix,
6:55 pm
coming back in the ten laps, extraordinary. there is an insight into how focused and determined this guy is, a true phenomenon on. my favourite moment is when he led wales to a grand slam victory. he showed amazing victory and was the standout player. everyone should vote for him on the 15th of december. we think cats deserves to when. vote for ben stokes. make sure you vote for raheem sterling. please please vote for dina asher—smith for your sports personality of the year. wrote for lewis hamilton, he has to be in pole position. you can't vote until tomorrow but you can watch it all on bbc one from 7 tomorrow evening with build up and buzz from the red carpet online and on the red button from 5.

6:57 pm
lively downpours through wales pushing into the midlands and east anglia and the south—east, gusty winds, a rumble of thunder but even when cleared, continuing showers across wales, northern ireland and southern scotland, these areas could have a snow to take us into tomorrow morning. the gaps between is where we could see some ice. a reminder, it is going to be windy, strongest across southern and western areas, touching 50—60 mph, normally keeping temperatures up and it will across some southern counties that further north it will be below freezing widely hence the ice risk. here is the big picture for sunday morning, low pressure with us, mainly to the north, another developing to the south of ireland as we go through the day, in between them a little bit, some showers around in the morning, rain or sleet or health snow, most will be across central and southern scotland for a time,

many have good long sunny spells, as some of you saw today, showers get going again for the breeze and far south—west conceals developing again. severe gale force wind is possible for the hebrides and highlands. a chilly day especially in the breeze, 2—9dc at best. into monday morning a frosty start, overnight rain, dry weather for a time, one or two showers, more in the way of rain, some snowfall again over the high ground, later in the day as the cloud seconds, there is a chance we could start to see some rain around. there is a lot of uncertainty attached to this where the weather front will be. maybe further east and mist us but could be further west, if it does, it will interact with some cold wind producing health snow and certainly heavy rain, beyond that temperatures gradually rise through the week as
