are in the stands, as their new sides went head to head at goodison. and, learning from a great. britain's daniel dubois has the ear of frank bruno as he moves towards a shot at a heavyweight title. he fights in london tonight. we start tonight with the death of martin peters, one of england's heroes of ‘66. he was a west ham legend, and the club say that he passed away peacfully this morning at the age of 76, after a long illness. geoff hurst stole the headlines with his hat—trick in the 1966 world cup final, but for a while it looked like martin peter's goal might win it before west germany equalised. peters also won honours at west ham and spurs in a career that spanned more than 20 years. natalie pirks looks

back at his life. with all eyes on hurst, the danger from martin peters went unnoticed. it is a goal! peters! little wonder they called him the ghost. there's martin peters, the man who scored the goal which could well win the world cup for england. it didn't of course, geoff hurst claimed that accolade. many called peters‘ goal the forgotten goal. he had a different take. if i hadn‘t have scored, we would have lost 2—1. it was an important goal. his journey to world cup greatness began seven years earlier, instead of following his father‘s foot steps, west ham came calling. he made his debut for the hammers in ‘62. he won the european cup winners‘ cup in 65. sir alf ramsay said his style and ability was ten years ahead of

his time, but he didn‘t receive his first cap until the may of 1966. by 1970, his legend at west ham was secure and he left for spurs in a deal that made his britain‘s first £200,000 midfielder. 0h, oh, what 0h, whata oh, what a beautiful goal. what a good header that was from martin peters. with tottenham he won the league cup twice and the uefa cup. he left in 1975, moving to norwich. despite making his debut at the age of 31, he still played more than 200 games for the club. he lived and breathed football. his family said they would find him practising headers in his sleep. there are fears heading the ball helped cause his disease. like some of his former team mates, he had been suffering from alzheimer‘s. in the last few years he had withdrawn from public appearances and alzheimer‘s robbed him of many of his memories, but he remain one of only two english men to know the joy of

scoring in a world cup final. the emotion was like being struck by lightning. it was unbelievable with everybody jumping all over you, it was fantastic. peters left his mark on footballing history on the day, so the saying goes, that west ham won the world cup. we can talk now to sir trevor brooking, who played with martin peters at west ham. thank you for talking us to first of all, your reaction to the news? yes, imean all, your reaction to the news? yes, i mean everyone will be very sad. you know martin, well, he lived locally as such. i was lucky as a youngster, a young apprentice to join west ham in 65 when they won the cup winners‘ cup and they won the cup winners‘ cup and they won the fa cup the year before and in
