hello and welcome to sportsday. it's an issue close to the future monarch‘s heart — mental health. and it's closely linked with sport — which is why before every fa cup game at the weekend, fans were asked to pause for one minute to think about it. the initiative was spearheaded by prince william — the president of the fa. however, it's since emerged that the bookmaker bet 365 has the rights to show fa cup ties on its website and app — but only after fans placed a bet or opened an account. with gambling addiction a known cause of poor mental health, it's prompted the government to ask the fa to reconsider its arrangement with the bookmaker. this weekend all fa cup matches kicked off one minute late. time to ta ke kicked off one minute late. time to take a minute before kick—off. kicked off one minute late. time to take a minute before kick—offm was to publicise the fa president prince william's mental health

just 24. he had a gambling addiction. from your experience with your son, is this a sort of deal that jack would have your son, is this a sort of deal thatjack would have been your son, is this a sort of deal that jack would have been drawn into taking part in? the prospect of being able to see his club would be exactly the sort of thing that he would want to do. yeah, i fear that many people like him would sign up to this deal feeling it was just an opportunity to see your club play without actually appreciating what you are ultimately signing up to. you are signing up to be targeted by the relentless bombardment of marketing materials from a voracious gambling company. for somebody who is an addict, each time they are getting that sort of material it is a trigger to gamble. of course, your vested interest is in people who have a problem but there are many others who don't. to be fed to the betting company, they have said you

only have to open an account. they are paying for the rights to some of those fa cup matches. some might argue it is up to the individual to make that choice as to whether they place a bet or not. we are not, as a charity, antigambling. we don't believe in prohibition at all. but we do think there are some products which are actually too dangerous. people will engage with those products thinking this is entirely safe, just a bit of fun because that is how they are marketed. but the reality for many people is those products are a route into addiction. when you look at individual products, would you look at particular groups of people and young men in particular, the addiction rates are astronomical. for some products they are well over 50%. the connection between gambling and mental health problems is clear, has been clear for many years. the link to suicide is clear. estimate
