6:35 pm
something else, but i knew deep down this was the right thing to do. and it was. perseverance was one thing, but i always talk to the kids about working hard, and this says it all, about what happened over the last 70 yea rs. about what happened over the last 70 years. the perseverance, the stubbornness, and just the bloody mindedness of knowing that this was the right thing to do. when we talked before, you said your role will be instrumental in bringing players from europe. that big name players from europe. that big name players layer is yet to materialise so players layer is yet to materialise so have you been talking to? we can't legally talk to any players because they're all under contract, but we've got aspirations of bringing big name players. ithink every owner of every franchise around the world has aspirations of bringing great layers. if you have the opportunity to do that, then great. we're more than happy with the roster we have and the players we have. we've got young players in

6:37 pm
and us goalkeeper. marcus, i see beckham has been doing the talk shows in america as well as speaking to natalie. how much interest is there in him and his team? he was a massive influence on how the mls has taken off when it started. there were ten or 12 teams and the league was really struggling when he started. it was a vision of bringing david in, and it was remarkable how that turned around with all the sponsorships annexing you know, looking at our schedules this year, there are 26 teams in the lien. it's crazy how it's expanded. —— in the league. you heard david talk about how they could get the big name players and one of the reasons why he wanted to keep it in miami is that that is the draw for the players to come in and eventually, those players will turn up. one thing you need is fans
6:38 pm
coming to watch. we saw that there is some interest in this miami team. is it capturing the rest of america as well? it's difficult to say how everything will work out. when you look at how some by these teams have done when, like la, it's always difficult for people to get out to the stadium. there's lots of traffic, there's different situations. when seattle came into the league, it was pretty remarkable. next thing you know we started selling out which was a massive nfl venue. a0 something thousand tickets for the big games we had. we sold 20, 30,000 season tickets right off the bat. it's pretty remarkable. all of a sudden, with some of these new teams like atla nta with some of these new teams like atlanta coming in, the hike was already there. their expectations

6:40 pm
improve in terms of fans experience, because when watching tv, it's a com pletely because when watching tv, it's a completely different thing when you know what's going on. as a fan in the stadium, it's terrible. it is something that's in our thoughts as well. it's at least comparable to that, getting to what you're watching at home. we keep trying to make sure we are sending out the information that the fans need, such as messages of what is being reviewed. we also shared the difference in angle which is sent to the referee to look at on the screen. hopefully it will show why the on—field decision was originally made was made. it's something we are continuing to look at. we're looking for options for referees to make announcements themselves in the same way you see in nfl. that's something we're working with for some testing
6:41 pm
and once it's been tested, we can look at that as well. the competitions are looking at opening up competitions are looking at opening up the communication between the va are at the rest so fans can hear that as well. it's really to keep people fully informed of what's happening. normally they feel detached from the action. plenty going on elsewhere today including. another impressive win for dan evans in the dubai championships. he's set to move into the world's top 30 after reaching his first top level atp semi final by beating andrei rublev in straight sets. he'll play stefanos tsitsipas for a place in the final. mercedes and lewis hamilton endured the first major gremlins of f1 preseason testing. he suffered an engine failure in the afternoon session in barcelona and was bottom of the time sheets as a result. sebastian vettel‘s ferrari was fastest. adam yates continues to lead the uae tour with two stages remaining. in the red here, he was part of a select group on the final climb,

pipped by tadej pogacar. we've done miami, australia next. at the women's cricket t20 world cup, india are through to the semi finals after extending their unbeaten start to three matches. they saw off new zealand, but only just. defending champions australia thrashed bangladesh in the day's other game to move closer to the knockout stages. here's our sports reporterjo currie. well, after a slow start to the tournament, this was the performance australian fans have been waiting for. they won the toss and put themselves into bat, and right from that first ball, they made their intention very, very clear, making boundary after boundary before making a total of 189 for one, with alyssa healy making 83 and beth mooney, 81. now from that point, it was always going to be very, very difficult for bangladesh, and whilst australia couldn't bowl them all out, they fell woefully short of their target, handing the defending champions an 89—run victory. now earlier in melbourne, there was a cracking finish
6:43 pm
to the match between india and new zealand. india lost the toss when put into back, but made a very respectable 133 for eight. largely thanks again, to 16—year—old shafali verma, who shone with the bat, making a6. in response, new zealand, well they took it all the way to the final over. in fact, they took it all the way down to the final ball, needing four for that final ball to push through a super over. however, they couldn't find the boundary, handing india a victory. that's now three wins from three for india in the groups. it means they've now about one foot inside the semifinals. it also means that second qualifying spot will probably be played between australia and new zealand. those two teams meet in melbourne on saturday, and what a game that's going to be. whereas here, the next matches here see south africa take on thailand, whereas england will play pakistan. england's group is a little tighter. four teams tied on two points at the minute. england are top having thrashed thailand last time out but batter lauren winfield in conscious that their standards must remain high against pakistan,
6:44 pm
a team they've only lost to once. 0ur bowlers have been doing a fantasticjob. at 0ur bowlers have been doing a fantastic job. at this 0ur bowlers have been doing a fantasticjob. at this stage, we are really ha p py fantasticjob. at this stage, we are really happy with how the bowlers have performed and the bowlers that we've used. we know we need to keep pushing hard and keep pushing those big totals, making sure we're getting 150 plus as often as we can. that's the way we want to play, obviously not every time. but that certainly is the philosophy and the way in which our team is currently set up to play at the minute. and that game in canberra is under way at eight o'clock in the morning. five live sports extra is the place to listen to live commentary. you can also follow it on the bbc sport website and app. still to come on sportsday... we look ahead to next year's ground breaking rugby league world cup with some wheelchair players in south wales, who are hoping to make it there.
