there was a lot of talk about the fa ct there was a lot of talk about the fact that this was very much manchester city's for the taking, but villa did put up a fight, didn't they? they really did, and there is a sense from the fans who are streaming away towards the tube that they were in this game for the first 19 minutes, they really took the game to city, and they have almost set upa game to city, and they have almost set up a permanent home here, their 16th visit in ten seasons, going for the hat—trick of consecutive wins in this trophy, but villa really were in the game, and a diving header in the second minute from our ghazi almost gave them a perfect start. but it was sergio aguero, a defence splitting pass landed to phil foden, knocked down to aguero, and he really is aston villa's nemesis. his tenth goal against them in six starts. and then just ten minutes later, it was really quite poor, soft defending, really, from a corner that meant rodrigo got ahead.
6:34 pm
dean smith was furious, the villa manager, he was remonstrating, as was tyrone mings, and i think replays will back them up on that, but of course var doesn't look at that kind of thing. they felt it shouldn't have been a corner and therefore wouldn't have been a goal. but really it was villa's defending that was a problem for that corner. just before half—time when that sense of inevitability was creeping m, sense of inevitability was creeping in, it was city's turn to stumble, stones with the slip. that brilliant diving header to make it 2-1, that brilliant diving header to make it 2—1, and the second half got a bit testy, raheem sterling had a couple of issues and picked up a yellow card, and that there was a two footed tackle on aguero that could have been a red, it was off the ground, and said he didn't like that at all. villa were just

millimetres, three minutes from time, from making it 2—2 and going to extra time, but bjorn engels, a great save, just tip it onto the post, that was that. i think in the end of city did show their strength and it was the right result, but villa can really walk away from here with their heads held high today. and i can hear some of the celebrations going on behind you at wembley. natalie pirks, thank you for the moment. on to the premier league then. and at goodison park a couple of goalkeeping howlers allowed both goals in a 1—1 draw between everton and manchester united. the hosts had a late winner ruled out, which left manager carlo ancelotti seeing red.. literally. adam wild was watching. if the premier league is already a race amongst the also—rans, here we re race amongst the also—rans, here were everton and manchester united jostling for position. it's about being on the right place at the right time, that is where dominic calvert—lewin made sure he was, making his own luck with little help

they sent me off. i wanted to keep they sent me off. i wanted to keep the conversation private, ifelt they were going to take a decision, but sometimes you can be right and sometimes you can be wrong. any complaint of this, we are satisfied with the performance, and this can give us more confidence, that we can compete with these teams. it's a bad start, but then great reaction by everyone. we wanted the ball, we took the game to them, played in their half, created chances and got the goal we deserved. are you a fan of var? i don't know. it's hard to say. i wouldn't mind living with the human errors. just one other premier league game today. rauljimenez with the win for wolves as they came from behind twice to beat spurs 3—2. that

win moves them back above spurs and boost their hopes of earning a champions league spot. we are firing on all fronts now, so we have opportunities to do something special. we have a home game next week, and we will adversely go and try and win that and win as high as we can. 0ur adversely go and try and win that and win as high as we can. our goal is to finish, try to get the season unbeaten and see where it takes us. you would have to be ruthless against teams like wolves that played fantastically well in counterattack. we we ren't. played fantastically well in counterattack. we weren't. and i think we deserved much more than this result. elsewhere. celtic have moved a step closer to successfully defending their scottish cup title. they're through to the semi finals after beating stjohnstone1—0 — ryan christie's free kick nine minutes from time — enough to secure the win. it's celtic‘s 34th successive victory in domestic cup competitions.
