didn't want that backlash that they we re didn't want that backlash that they were going to be going ahead in spite of all the other sports taking the lead, so you just feel the sense that the wru are taking stock and saying, look, we cannot go ahead because of how quickly moving this situation is. perhaps on monday, gareth davies told us, that government health advice could be very different, so this match is off. the final round of six nations fixtures are a complete write—off. everybody seems to be falling into line. thank you. in the midst of all these cancellations and postponements, there is some sport to bring you,the cheltenham festival has gone ahead this week. today was gold cup day. lizzie greenwood hughes is there and it's safe to say there was a popular winner. i feel honoured to bring you a result. willie mullins and al boum photo, that becomes the first horse

since 2004 to win sit... it was that early success that caused the odds to planet on al boum photo. 130 favourite he was, and it was very close. if that race had been a few more yards, i think santini might have caught him on the line, but i spoke to willie on the —— after the race, and he said he was confident the horse would do well. the only worry he had was when he discovered a few months ago that he had escaped from his stable and was tucking into a bag of carrots, and he had to lead him back to the stable. he was confident the horse had the talent to do it again. he waited a long time for the first gold cup last year and he has two now in successive year and he has two now in su ccess ive years . year and he has two now in successive years. i was chatting about the grand national. all these sporting events being cancelled. he said he would bring his horses next

month, but whether he gets the choice we will have to wait and see. thank you very much. as ever, more on the website as to how coronavirus is affecting sport around the world. from me and the team, that is all for now. now time for the film review. hello and welcome to the film review on bbc news. to take us through this week's cinema releases is mark kermode. so mark, what do we have this week? very mixed bag. we have misbehaviour which is a true life story of the disruption of the 1970 miss world. we have bacurau which is brilliantly indescribable and very strange. and my indescribable and very strange. and my spy, an updated kindergarten cop.
5:48 pm
so we start with a true story. so, yes, based on real events, a comedy drama about the 1970 miss world. yes, based on real events, a comedy drama about the 1970 miss worldm is amazing to through your mind back to 1970 when miss world was a big thing on the bbc and everybody sat round and watched it. the dignified co ntesta nt round and watched it. the dignified contestant who was the chance of breaking the competition's white only glass ceiling, meanwhile keira knightley and jessie buckley are the chalk and cheese activists who decided that they are going to disrupt the cattle market of miss world by making their own way to the competition and creating a spectacle that will draw attention to the rising woman's movement. here is a clip. how do we actually get in without being caught? we buy tickets. laughter. unless that's too organised. and you lot, you would have to blend in.
5:49 pm
communal clothes. laughter. woo! ooh, wow, i love them. you look like a bag lady. what, i look like you? this is what you're wearing. this is your skirt. laughter. look, could you... shoes. lady—like. i look exactly like my mother. i look like my mother's sofa. the thing i really liked about this was on the one hand, it is a remarkable true story. these two things converge and happen at the same time. the second thing is what the film does tonally is it has a very good balance in the same way as
5:50 pm
something like made in dagenham or more recently a battle of the sexes does by taking an important social economic story and putting it in a form which is really entertaining, so form which is really entertaining, so there are great performances. there is stuff like eric morley who is in charge of the competition. he is in charge of the competition. he is really good. and he is also really enjoying himself. you have bob hope who is the celebrity guest, although i think the show is stolen by leslie manville as his long—suffering wife dolores who has seen a bob hope be at these competitions before, and at the centre of it you have this actually pretty much historically what happened, but told with great wit, great humour. we heard a couple people say it was a bit flimsy. i think what they meant was it was strangely accessible, because i thought the story did grapple with some complicated... there were conflicts of interest, on the one hand there is the story of the miss

world character and the women's lead character, and this dinosaur competition was welcomed into everyone's home. i spent the whole film ceiling saying that we actually did this only 50 years ago. it was a very good historical reminder of how horrific it was. the most horror horrifying thing is when they do the tone, but i thought it was really entertaining, but i think it also told the story well. absolutely. it is hugely enjoyable. you could say maybe a couple of the keira knightley, jessie buckley characters we re knightley, jessie buckley characters were not well drawn, but the historical representation of the period was fantastic. my thing about thoseis period was fantastic. my thing about those is there is a certain broad strokes to those characters, but in exactly the same way as i didn't mind it with made in dagenham, i think what it is doing is attempting to tell that story to the widest

possible audience, because what you don't want to be singing to the choir. you don't want to be making a story about the subject to people who already know it, but to those who already know it, but to those who don't know about it. this really happened and it was really meant remarkable. thumbs up from me. your second choice today. this is a brazilian film, and i talked about aquarius on the programme about a year or so ago. this is political satire. it takes some inspiration from that story, the most dangerous game, about hunting humans. it is a remote village that discovers it has effectively been written off the map. there phone signal has stopped working, their water has been cut off, they no longer appear on satellite maps, so they have effectively been deemed to exist, and then a bunch of rich, armed terrorists turn up led by 0do kir
5:53 pm
which is not a good sign, and it goes from being on one side as satire, to something that is a grim and gruelling thriller. i liked it very much because it was hard to pigeonhole it. i am very aware that the more you know about the political situation, the more you can read from it, and i was thinking iam can read from it, and i was thinking i am watching this as a sin the enthusiast rather than a politician so enthusiast rather than a politician soiam enthusiast rather than a politician so i am getting half of the story, but it is well directed and very unexpected. there are moments of real brutality in it, and there is certainly one of those films that afterwards you will have a very long discussion about what it all added up discussion about what it all added up to. i thought it was an interesting piece, it is on the cinema for a couple of weeks and then on movie for a couple of months. and now my spy. we have seen this a few times in this particular format, so few times in this particular format, so dave magister is this muscle—bound agent who will we see at the beginning of the movie doing
5:54 pm
at the beginning of the movie doing a nation, and they say that he is not a very good spy, and he is sent ona not a very good spy, and he is sent on a surveillance mission. he ends up on a surveillance mission. he ends up falling for the person that he is surveilling but he gets wrapped up with the child he is also surveilling. you don't believe me? look, kid, you're just not the spy type. 0h, isee. so i should just stay in my box and dream of maybe being a barista or a fashion designer or a wedding planner. or maybe an er nurse like your mother. you know, i was thinking of asking bobby anyway. she seems more like the brains of the operation, where is your more the brawn. who are you calling brawn? i was an analyst. she doesn't have an ounce of my training. if anybody's going to teach you, it's going to be... nicely done. don't do that again.
5:55 pm
you can hear the score coming in going that this bit is funny. here is that thing. it is perfectly fine, there are a couple of chuckles. it is basically kindergarten court meets —— kindergarten cop makes spy meets... dave bautista is funny, although he has done funny stuff in guardians of the galaxy for example. i chuckled for a few times. there was one person who was loving the head of the whole way through, and i imagined they were a big dave bautista fan, but it was kind of the definition of it's ok. i have seen much worse and much better.m definition of it's ok. i have seen much worse and much better. is it in your category of it wasn't —— i wasn't bored. i wanted it to be funnier than it was, but i have seen far less funny things. that won't go on the post for it. but you are probably all over the poster of a portrait of a lady on fire. it is the last week i'm going to do this because it is the last week. this is
5:56 pm
one of the best films i have seen in ages. it is directed by a fantastic director, and it is a period drama but very contemporary. it is about the female gaze but also a love story. it has the most extraordinary use of music despite the fact there is very little music in it, and i just thought i loved it. it is a beautiful film in every way. and also flawless. i can't think of anything that is wrong with it. i keep thinking there must be something that is wrong with it. no, absolutely something that is wrong with it. no, a bsolutely flawless. something that is wrong with it. no, absolutely flawless. it is up there with parasite in terms of not a step foot wrong. i am with you on that one. there might be a little more of us watching films and a couple of weeks, so what are the best dvds? so they are going to be very important in the next couple of weeks. this was nominated for an oscar, it was known as ford versus ferrari in
5:57 pm
america, and it was a racing story with two great performances from christian bale and matt damon. christian bale and matt damon. christian bale and matt damon. christian bale got all of the attention in terms of the acting. i think matt damon had the harder role. i think that role was malcolm located because it seemed to be the less co m plex located because it seemed to be the less complex role, and although it sounds counterintuitive, it is harder to play a less complex role. i thought it was very entertaining with terrific sound design. it remind me to some extent to the original. everyone on my age was taken to see the original by their dad, but it was a great story and well told and very moving. i was slightly surprised it was up for best picture, but it is a good piece of entertainment and a solidly made film. 0k, and we will need lots of that. it is no portrait of a lady on fire. go and see that before they shut the cinemas. it makes my heart to even think about it. thanks for
