poe has created something that is simultaneously familiar and surprising. capturing both the hazy nature of teenage years and the more brutal power struggles of adult life. a larger—than—life artificial world that seems strangely grounded in down—to—earth reality. at times, i was reminded of the rebellious spirit of girlhood. although this has an altogether more surreal air. aided by some beautiful floating cinematography and by an almost sci—fi inflected a score by a talented japanese composer. debuting to rapturous applause at last year's sundance film festival, selah and the spades was acquired by amazon, who quietly started

a spin off tv series. you could find the feature now on amazon prime. equally unexpected is why don't you just die?, the blood splattered blackly comic debut from russian film—maker kirill sokolov. the action plays in a cramped apartment... andre is a nasty piece of work that corrupt cop with a british demeanour who has no intention of being taken down easily. but as the story flashes back and forth being past and present, the apartment becomes a wild west chorale of double—crossing showdowns

a horrid inflected thriller which is not to be confused with bong joon—ho's creature feature the host from 2006, the andrew nichols stephanie meyer sci—fi the hose from 2013, the maranda pennell documentary the host from 2015, or indeed any of the other movies called the host, few of which could be quite as unoriginal and uninspiring as this. what's that on your dress? oh, i was grinding some meat. the plot follows a london baker in amsterdam where he encounters chinese drug smugglers, european femme fatale and a host, get it, as international movie cliches that will leave even the most casual film goer thinking hang on, i've seen all this done before. 0nly better. i understand you're in trouble. we'd like to challenge fortune. but we also know that the house always wins. yeah, i guess.

of skywalker is now available for digital download prior to its arrival on dvd and blu—ray on the 20th. playing things safe after the more adventurous twist of the lastjedi, episode ix brings things to a close in fairly formulaic fashion — entertaining but empty. they must have no defects — and if they're not pretty much 26 34th, 36, the curves won't be in the right places. but we really believe beauty isjust skin deep. the girls also get marks on charm, grace... swimsuit. also misbehavior, which had a brief outing before the lockdown and is now available digitally from all major platforms. a feisty dramatization of the disruption of the 1917 ms world competition, this very enjoyable movie
