to be learned in order to bring true equality in education. elaine dunkley, bbc news. st bernard dogs are known worldwide for their strength and their countless life—saving missions in freezing alpine conditions. they are rarely in need of rescue themselves. but this weekend on scafell pike, england's highest peak, a major recovery effort took place involving 16 mountain rescuers when daisy, a four—year—old st bernard, collapsed on a trail. the team took five hours to carry her down, as our correspondent danny savage reports. early evening on the side of england's highest mountain. daisy, the rather large dog, has had enough of walking, so the local mountain rescue team is called to carry her down. we've rescued some big dogs before, but nothing as big as daisy. you know, what a fantastic dog. st bernard, exhausted, and we get to rescue her. earlier, the hall family had made it

to the top of scafell pike with their four—year—old st bernard. she was quite calm about it, but she would just sit down and then lay down say and say, "actually, i'll have a nap." and what was funny is she would suddenly sleep, wouldn't she? yeah, she would suddenly sleep. the worn—out woofer was stretchered over rugged terrain to safety. some people might say, "why are you rescuing dogs?" our mission is save life and alleviate distress, and you can't leave a 55—kilogram st bernard on the mountain. you've got to get her down somehow. good girl! this afternoon, a fully recovered daisy was back at her home in lincolnshire with her grateful owners. i think daisy probably knows even though she can't say it how grateful she is. and the fact that these are all volunteers, they've all had a day of work when they get the call that they needed to come out and help somebody. it's absolutely amazing what they did. yeah. the family has made a donation

to mountain rescue to say thank you. as for daisy, she'll be going for walks on less mountainous territory. danny savage, bbc news. time for a look at the weather. here's stav daneos. thank you. good evening to. this month has been pretty cool and u nsettled month has been pretty cool and unsettled with temperatures below the seasonal average and that is how the seasonal average and that is how the week started but by mid week it looks like we will have temperatures rising as high pressure builds and it looks like we could close out july with temperatures in the low 30s for some but it will be a brief warm spell. the low pressure has bottom heavy and persistent rain too much of the country, particularly the northern half this evening. summer wet weather extending northwards across scotland into the evening. some heavy showers further south with some rumbles of thunder recently in lincolnshire and it has been windy and gusty with temperatures hovering around the mid to high teens sew on the cool side.

moving overnight, we continue with showers, wet weather becomes confined to the northern isles where it will be windy as well with a lot of shout in northern and western areas and blustery, temperatures not much below ten or ii areas and blustery, temperatures not much below ten or 11 degrees. tomorrow, marginally better, we start with low pressure bringing wet and windy weather to the northern isles, a lot of blustery showers blown in on that north—west went into northern and western areas with a few into northern and western areas with afew in into northern and western areas with a few in eastern parts but it could stay dry in the southeast with some sunny spells. cool again, stay dry in the southeast with some sunny spells. coolagain, mid stay dry in the southeast with some sunny spells. cool again, mid to high teens celsius. moving through the week, this high pressure begins to build with a few showers in the north and west on wednesday and thursday but by friday, we have southerly winds tapping into this warm airon the southerly winds tapping into this warm air on the near continent so temperatures will rise as we move on to friday. sunny and warm across the board with temperatures in the lower 30s only on friday in the south.
