now, it's not hot everywhere — the heat continues to be focused across over the next few days across south—eastern areas of the uk but, even here, by the end of the week ahead, those temperatures will be dropping. that is some way off, and it's going to be a very warm and muggy night for many southern parts of the uk. maybe a little bit warmer than recently in northern ireland and scotland, with lows here of 7 or 8 degrees with more cloud arriving. some areas didn't clear the cloud very much today, and that low cloud develops more widely, some mist and patchy fog, and maybe by the end of the night the first signs of some showers breaking out in the west, and over the coming few days we'll see more of those showers, torrential rain, the threat of some flash flooding, some thunder and lightning. pinning the detail down, that is quite difficult at the moment. it looks like on monday it will be the western parts of england and wales that will see some more heavy, thundery showers, drifting their way northwards into the south—west of scotland. one or two could break out later in the day further east, but we should see the sunshine developing more widely, and that

will heat things up very quickly. it's likely to be a hotter day through the midlands — 30 degrees here through the south—east of england, those temperatures peaking at 3a celsius. moving on to tuesday, we have a few more showers around, could be heavy and thundery almost anywhere, really. i think, as we head through the second half of the day, it will be the north midlands northwards that are more likely to get organised heavy rain and some thunderstorms, too, but it may well be warmer before then across yorkshire, lincolnshire, into cheshire and lancashire. again, those temperatures at their peak in the south—east of england. we do start to see more rain, heavy and thundery, developing —
