behaviour on and off the pitch makes them unavailable. two serious breaches of quarantine guidelines involving mason greenwood and phil foden leaves the england boss dealing with questions around discipline within the england camp. austin halewood joins me. austin, the players have apologised, but this is an unnecessary headache for gareth southgate right now. for gareth southgate and for england fans as well. they've waited nearly ten months to see their team in action once again, but their return to international football has been dominated by ill discipline. first, it was harry maguire found guilty of aggravated assult in mykonos. he does maintain his innocence and has lodged an appeal. and now, it's young stars phil foden and mason greenwood breaking strict coronavirus protocols in iceland.
6:35 pm
so, to take you back, the england team were in rekjavik for their nations league game against iceland, a match that both foden and greenwood made their england debuts in. butjust a few hours later, they broke quarantine rules by agreeing to meet two women at the team hotel. since then, as the rest of the squad flew to copenhagen for tonight's match against denmark, foden and greenwood have been sent home. now, up to this point, the pair had been flourishing at their respective clubs. they've both been earmarked to be part of england's plans for years to come, but right now they face an anxious wait on their immediate international futures. now, it's clear that they both regret their actions. they issued apologies over social media. foden was the first to do so yesterday. he said it "hurts" to miss the game in denmark and that he'll "learn a valuable lesson from this error injudgment". then greenwood issued an apology of his own earlier today. he said he "only has himself

to blame" and he added that he wanted to apologise, in particular, to gareth southgate "for letting him down when he'd shown great trust in me". and that's what's going to hurt the manager the most. he'd given these two players their international debuts, and they fell at the first hurdle. tarnishing england's image of the same time as well. so, southgate will need to make changes tonight, but he says he has plenty of options. we are really pleased with the condition of the players following the iceland game. it was played in predominantly one half of the pitch, so the physical demands were a lot lower than they sometimes can be. so, there have been players short of training minutes and match minutes, but in actual fact everybody has reported well both before and after training. so, southgate will be desperate
6:37 pm
for a good performance this evening to put the attention back to matters on the pitch, but there's no doubting that with the current global situation, any breach of lockdown or quarantine rules like this, holly, will damage england's reputation, one that southgate's really fought hard to build. thanks, austin. you mentioned that he will have to make some changes tonight. well, for the moment, attention must return to copenhagen. southgate has mentioned a shift in formation. ian dennis and chris waddle can take us through it. all the focus in the build up is been on phil a mason greenwood. now it switches to two other players. alongside me is the former english international chris waddle. looking for a three man defence tonight and what you make of that? he plays at his club in place weekend and week

out against top class players so he will be nervous. it is an england shirt and it makes you feel very i'iei’vous shirt and it makes you feel very nervous but excited and hopeful he gets in the ball early and settles and he knows have a place plays every week at home. as for calvin phillips, he has never represented inge a level and is yet to play in the premier league that will change this week and is yet to play in the premier league that will change this weekend for leeds united. what you make of him? he looks good. played in the tip and ship and holds the ball we ll in the tip and ship and holds the ball well but he will be nervous as having not represented in the any level and this is a massive state against the good side in denmark. hopefully he will get on the ball and be confident and try if you think if you play before your club to take it onto the field tonight for england. a dream come true for the pair in denmark and the build up oi'i the pair in denmark and the build up on bbc radio 5 live starts at seven p:m.. so, that game kicks off at 7:45pm tonight along with six other nations league fixtures. also in england's group are belgium and iceland, who're also in action. follow all the results on the bbc sport website and app.

no fans at any of those games, of course, as is the case when the premier league gets under way this weekend. some good news — all fixtures will be televised live this month. this is how it'll look. sky and bt had selected 17 games each for the first three rounds of the new season. of the remaining 11, sky will show six, bt sport three, and the bbc and amazon prime will broadcast one each. leicester's home game against burnley on the 20th will be free to air on the bbc. the premier league says it's "considering appropriate arrangements" for matches in october. good news for most, but the chair of the all parliamentary group on football thinks fans should have been told sooner. there are supporters of clubs up and down the length of the country who are premier league supporters who are premier league supporters who are wanting to know if they will be

able to see their team play this weekend. and i think those hundreds of thousands of premier league supporters, season ticket holders and all the clubs come it is their proper answers was that this is not the way to treat the customer base if you are an intelligent business. for some fans in scotland this weekend, there'll be no need for flicking through the channels, with two scottish premiership matches to be played in front of spectators. aberdeen‘s game with kilmarnock and ross county's meeting with celtic will both have up to 300 people in attendance. our scotland sports news correspondent chris mclaughlin has the details. almost a full six months since we la st almost a full six months since we last witnessed fans inside stadiums here in scotland, scottish professional football league had been pushing very hard in the past few weeks to make it happen but the scottish government have taken a very cautious approach indeed. now what will happen on saturday is that

ross county's game against celtic at ding walland ross county's game against celtic at ding wall and aberdeen's game against kilmartin will have 300 fanciful so the usual protocols in place, the richer checks, social distancing in the stadium and masks to be worn as well. to this follows from a successful test event in scottish rugby union at murray field a couple of weeks ago. 700 fans were allowed to attend then. now they we re allowed to attend then. now they were also supposed to be some test events in glasgow this weekend. paisley and rangers and at dundee united work to be in the mix for pilot games but due to restrictions imposed in glasgow has met those games have had to be shelved. clearly what this means for scottish football, the hope is that once these test events are under way, they can gradually see more numbers being introduced to scottish

football. that is something clearly that everyone is hoping for in the near future. now to one of the biggest names in women's football. she's won three champions league trophies and a host of other honours as a player with lyon, but now, lucy bronze is makng her return to the english top—flight. she's re—signed with manchester city, who she played for until 2017. she told us she has some unfinished business. i've been at city before. i know what they're about. i know how the club's run. obviously a couple of players are different, and the coach, the manager is obviously different as well. but, yeah, i wanted to come back and i guess push the club on a little bit more. i went to lyon and did exactly what i wanted to do, but i've gained so much experience that i feel like i can bring that back now to the club and to england. you've won everything there is to win domestically with manchester city previously. the one trophy that escaped you at city was the champions league, which you've now won multiple times. how close can this city team get to winning europe? i thinkjust as close
6:43 pm
as anybody else arguably. i think lyon's still going to be the favourites and rightly so. you're looking at the kind of top six, seven, eight teams in europe now who are competing, and i think on the day, anybody could probably get their hands on the trophy. but it's just about... it's that taking each game as it comes and each game at a time. and i think, you know, we could beat a lyon, we could beat a psg, but it will be a lot of work and have to get things exactly right on the day. as a player who's coming back from having played abroad, and obviously you've spent some college time in america as well, so you know football in different countries. when you look at the wsl at the moment and the calibre of player particularly that's being signed in this transfer window, how close is the wsl to being the best league in the world right now? on its day, it probably is the best league in the world. i can only see the english league getting better, and the way that it's improved already in the past four years,

even the five, six years when it first kind of hit the scene, it's changed massively every single year. and i just can't see that coming to a halt anytime soon. where england, especially with the fa, with all the teams, there's a lot of premier league clubs, man united, who've come in, burst onto the scene scene as well, tottenham, west ham. i think it's just growing bigger because these are global brands all around the world. everybody‘s heard of them, and everybody wants to be part of english football. let's take a quick look at some of the other stories making headlines today. aston villa are closing in on signing brentford striker ollie watkins. they've agreed a fee of £28 million that could rise to 33 million. watkins scored 26 goals for the bees last season. meanwhile, michy batshuayi is set to move to crystal palace on loan and sign a contract extension at his parent club chelsea. it would be a second stint at palace for the striker,

who scored 13 goals for the club during a loan spell there last year. and curry has completed his move to everton from watford. this is the third major signing for everton in the last four days after the arrivals of alan and james rodriguez. and england head coach phil neville has named seven newcomers in his 30—strong september training squad. among those receiving their first call—ups are manchester united's millie turner and manchester city's esme morgan. chelsea striker fran kirby returns after recovering from a viral illness. it's one of the few major sporting events that's pressed ahead this year despite the pandemic, but there was a reminder of the potential dangers at the tour de france. five people have tested positive, including the race director.
