which would take him to hospital, there was speculation about how the virus might have got through the white house defences. there‘s a policy of regular testing but back injuly donald trump appeared to contradict his press secretary. they‘d said he‘d been tested many times daily. the press secretary said today that you sometimes take more than one test per day, why is that? well, i didn‘t know about more than one, but i do take probably on average a test every two days, three days. i don‘t know if any time i‘ve taken two tests in one day. but i could see that happening. as well as questions over the testing regime, it‘s been noted that social distancing was not much in evidence at this recent event attended by the president. masks and face coverings appeared to be in short supply. as for donald trump‘s hospital treatment, he‘s getting two experimental drugs. he first made by the us company regeneron, involves antibodies produced in laboratories to boost covid patients‘ immune systems. scientists say early

results are encouraging but there are still questions. it‘s reduced the amount of virus that those patients then carry, but what we don‘t know yet is whether that strong signal, that strong effect on the virus, translates into benefits for the patients, so, for example, does it reduce the time that people need to be in hospital or reduce their need for a mechanical ventilator or improve survival? experts say the other drug, remdesivir, is an existing antiviral treatment which has shown positive results in one trial. the length of stay in people who have severe coronavirus infection is less, and so when you have indicators of severe infection, whether that‘s risk factors or whether it‘s actually observed lower oxygen rates, the thinking is that the earlier you can get it to patients the better. president trump has had the drugs early on but these are not cures for coronavirus. hugh pym, bbc news. borisjohnson and the president of the european commission have agreed on the importance of

longer meet up indoors with anyone they don‘t live with. this includes bars and restaurants. 16.8 million people or around one in four of the entire uk population are now living under some form of increased measures. the news comes as 770 students have tested positive for the virus at northumbria university in the north east of england. this report from greg mckenzie. hi, becca! hello. a student house in a student street in newcastle. coughs. all the people in this room have tested positive for covid, and are now isolating. the neighbours have had it too. we thought we were, like, some dangerous household, saying, "we've got covid, stay away. " but they were like, "we've already had it." you think it‘s already widespread in student houses in the street? absolutely, oh, it's widespread completely. also with everybody going back out on the night out scene, or whatever's left of it. some in their second year only returned to newcastle a week ago. now, 770 students there have tested positive for coronavirus.

it has left some questioning why they were allowed back so soon. i think that they definitely had a lot of time, the planning, i think, some precautions are not quite as good as they could have been, like, students coming back to the halls. they were all just thrown back in there and it has shot back up. i don‘t regret it at the moment, we‘re still having a good time in the household and we‘re working through it quite well. with many of the isolating students miles away from friends and family, the universities themselves are having to step in and send out supplies. it‘s becoming a huge operation. we are working with partners in the students' union and the city council to make sure those students have supplies. young people have been increasingly blamed for the spike in covid infections. these were the scenes last weekend in liverpool, as pubs and bars were forced to close at 10:00pm. but as of today the city is one of many places facing even tougher measures.
