president trump's president has tweeted saying he is feeling well. his doctors say he's "in good spirits" as he's treated in hospital for coronavirus. his medical team says the president was admitted as a precautionary measure and is not currently being given oxygen. at this time, the team and i are extremely happy at the progress the president has made. thursday he had a mild cough and some news congestion with fatigue all of which are not resolving and improving. parts of northern england face new coronavirus restrictions from today — including a ban on households mixing indoors. borisjohnson and the president of the european commission say the uk and eu will work intensively to overcome significant gaps in their positions on a post—brexit relationship. at least eight people are missing in south—east france after a powerful storm caused what is being called the worst flooding in living memory.

hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. with me arejohn rentoul — chief political commentator at the independent and lucy beresford — broadcaster and psychotherapist. lovely to see you both affair. tomorrow's front pages — starting with. .. many of the front pages lead president trump's condition in hospital. the sunday times says the us president is entrusting his recovery from covid—i9 to an experimental drug — describing him as a "human guinea pig". the sunday telegraph reports that

mr trump was given oxygen on friday night as his vital signs were said to be "very concerning". the observer says confusion over the true state of his health has raised doubts over transparency from the white house. in other news — the star has a photograph of borisjohnson‘s father sitting in an airport and not covering his face with a mask. the paper claims it's the second time in a week he's been pictured without one. and "hello david attenborough" — the sunday express telegraph shows princes george and louis and princess charlotte, putting questions about their favourite animals to the 94—year—old broadcaster. so, let's begin. we are going to start off with the story of the day and that is president trump and his treatment.
11:33 pm
the front page of the telegraph, john good to see you there. we will kick off with you. trump given oxygen as vital signs are concerning, a lot of questions around him receiving oxygen. tricky job for all the papers to keep up with today's twist and turns. i think the observer had it summed up best as confusion. the echoes of borisjohnson's best as confusion. the echoes of boris johnson's treatment for coronavirus are extremely strong but i don't remember borisjohnson's press people or doctors contradicting each other in the way that donald trump's people seem to be doing. and we just don't know. is the president getting better or getting worse? how seriously ill is he? there seems to be a lot of
11:34 pm
contradictions around. and that makes it difficult to put headlines together. lucy? yes, the confusion is partly because the doctor then was contradicted by mark meadows who is the white house chief of staff. the doctor had said that donald trump had not been put on any oxygen that day today and seemed to be quite evasive about whether oxygen had been used prior to today and then he also talked about a timeline of 72 hours in which contradicts the timeline that we had been given previously. immediately after that press c0 nfe re nce , previously. immediately after that press conference, mark meadows then pulled a group of otherjournalists to one side and there is footage on social media where he is saying "i wa nt social media where he is saying "i want this conversation to be off the
11:35 pm
record" in which he talks more about people being very nervous of the vital signs of donald trump in the previous 24—48 hours. and in fact one of the other papers i think the sunday times which we will be looking at where they talk about the drugs, the cocktail of drugs that donald trump has been given rather begs the question why he is being given such experimental drugs, this is what the sunday times is drawing oui’ is what the sunday times is drawing our attention to, if the symptoms and the presentation of the illness are so and the presentation of the illness are so mild? we have all these different bits of competing information that don't add up to a coherent narrative. how important you think that narrative isjohn? we have moved onto the sunday express which as lucy said is focusing on the drugs, the antibody therapy, and because it appears that walked to marine one there is this move to

show the president as invincible. everyone knows this disease kills. absolutely, it is borisjohnson all over again. absolutely, it is borisjohnson all overagain. i remember absolutely, it is borisjohnson all over again. i remember those absolutely, it is borisjohnson all overagain. i rememberthose video broadcasts that the prime minister gave when he was isolating in downing street. he didn't look particularly well, he was trying to suppress a cough. and in the next thing we knew he was being taken to hospital. we know that donald trump doesn't like hospitals. he is a german phobic. so for him to go to hospital suggests he must be rather ill or than he looked for some —— he isa german ill or than he looked for some —— he is a german phobic. what's with onto the front page of the mirror, and their headline there is will i die reported after he received a positive test where we do not know when he got that test. -- he is a
11:37 pm
germophobe. the politics as we are being told has continued but it does not have donald trump heading up the republican campaign and what does that due to the election? it is extraordinary that we don't really have a precedent for this. if donald trump was completely incapacitated would that mean that mike pence would have to go on the stump and stand in for him? and then what happens if he then tests positive as well? if they all start going down like flies it would be extraordinary. i thought that that front page there about donald trump talking about will i die? it suddenly makes him feel very much more human. he comes across and known as a teflon don and he has
11:38 pm
survived so many scandals and so many impeachment threats and all sorts of people coming out of the woodward to tell stories about him and yet suddenly he is a much more human figure. —— out of the woodwork. it's possible that could turn the polls around for him in a way that boris johnson's similarly had a spike in his approval ratings once he had been hospitalised. so this idea that when donald trump got his positive test and his first thought was of one of his friends who died in april, this property real estate magnate, his immediate thought and he is 7a, you can't be ruled out that this could be a really serious situation and in that moment, he suddenly becomes just like all of us would be, quite scared. he is a scared man. at the moment it seems there is a ten point lead for the democrats. joe biden is
11:39 pm
certainly in the lead, and donald trump is looking for something to disrupt the race. that is possibly why he was so aggressive in the debate last week. and if this means that the campaign is suspended, then that's not good for the trump campaign. buti that's not good for the trump campaign. but i think also, i think lucy's a bit generous to imagine that anna trump would benefit from a sympathy support from the american electorate if he is actually seriously ill. —— that he would actually benefit. i think it would destroy the mystique of donald trump as rather some kind of superman. it would upset a lot of his followers who are very sceptical about coronavirus and think it is just like flu, or they think it is a hoax

altogether and for their leader to go down with it is going to cause some cognitive dissidents i should imagine. we are going to go back to the front page of the telegraph and broken services for urban metropolitan thinkers with a shortage of a desperate shortage of practical skills. which skills you think they're referring to here? this is a reference to something that wasn't said by lord agnew who was talking about how whitehall needs to be overhauled, it is been a bit of a mantra for the tory party since they came to power and won the election in december. the skills would seem to be just the simple practical skills of applying some of the policy. we know dominic cummings has long wanted to disrupt the civil service but it turns out that for example there are lots of it

contracts that have not been renegotiated and money is being spent because they have not actually been tidied up. if there is no attention to detail and if there is too much cerebral thinking and not enough actual hands—on implementation, then you can understand why those in government wa nt to understand why those in government want to overhaul it. john do you ta ke want to overhaul it. john do you take on whitehall? no! i think it is madness. even if dominic cummings and ward agnew of whom i have not previously heard, i must confess, evenif previously heard, i must confess, even if they are right that civil service has some weaknesses, it's not a sensible thing to do to go to war with the officials who you rely oi'i war with the officials who you rely on to implement your policies as a government. -- and lord agnew. we will touch on the front page of the mail on sunday, allegations of boris sponsoring debt

breaking his mum's nose and an autobiography. lucy what did you make of this? it is an extranet or insight into the childhood of boris johnson for site —— extraordinary insight into the childhood. it is a biography and it reveals a tumultuous childhood with a father who was clearly, stanleyjohnson, who was clearly, stanleyjohnson, who has multiple affairs, treated his wife really badly, broke knows, made herfeel like it was herfault, and it's all part of tom bauer‘s attempt to build the picture as to why boris has the sort of personality that he has. it's a really big splash given everything else that is going on today. it is really big to lead with that but i think it is really important to try to understand why people are the way
11:43 pm
they are. that is what i spend most of my life doing. i am absolutely fascinated by this because i think it gives us more insights into what makes boris teek. john quickly on this swift summary action, the daily mail date approaches stanley johnson outside his home about the contents of the books and he said he did not wa nt to of the books and he said he did not want to comment and number ten has declined. let's move to the front page of the times. and downsizing turkeys. what is going on here? farmers have a dilemma, and had not occurred to me in this way but if the rule of six is going to carry on until christmas, that means christmas dinners are going to be slightly smaller than usual. farmers are worrying about what to do about these giant turkeys that they ordered. —— that they all breed has nobody ever heard of leftovers?

that takes us nicely back to the front page of the telegraph and fab news for mary barry. this is so sweet, she will be made a game in the queen's birthday honours. that should have come out injune but coronavirus got in the way of that andi coronavirus got in the way of that and i think they wanted to delay it because they wanted to include a lot of people who have put in so much effort and such a stunning work during the pandemic. she will be made a dame and one of the highlights of her life was being phoned up by buckingham palace and invited to lunch with the queen. she did not believe it was a real invite, she thought was a hoax. john was finish off with another happy story or fantastic images. front page of the sunday express, the many royals was a beautiful shots. it was and very

charming video which features the three of them asking david attenborough questions and i particularly liked the question about spiders. it was really quite cute to have a child who is not afraid of spiders who actually likes spiders, that is marvellous. afraid of spiders who actually likes spiders, that is marvellouslj afraid of spiders who actually likes spiders, that is marvellous. i have fun with spiders. prince will princess charlotte and prince george there. many of the front pages but a delightful shot of prince louis of the front page of the express. thank you john and was a, enjoy the rest of your weekend. and thank you for joining us here on bbc news. coming up next, it's the film review.
