7:01 pm
first lady, this has been really an incredible outpouring and we started very big with our rallies and everything because we cannot allow oui’ everything because we cannot allow our country to become a socialist nation. we cannot let that happen. that's what would happen. or worse, by the way. or worse. i want you to know our nation will defeat this terrible china virus, as we call it. and we are producing powerful therapies and drugs and healing the sick, and we are going to recover and the vaccine is coming out very very quickly, in record time, as you know. it is coming out at very very soon and we have great great companies doing it and they will be distributing it and we will be, through the power of the american spirit, i think, through the power of the american spirit, ithink, motheranything else. science, medicine will
7:02 pm
eradicate the china virus once and for role. we will get rid of it all over the world. you see big flare—ups in europe, canada, you so that today. a lot of flare—ups, but it is going to disappear. it is disappearing and our vaccines will help and the therapeutics will help a lot. i just help and the therapeutics will help a lot. ijust wanted to thank eve ryo ne a lot. ijust wanted to thank everyone this afternoon. what beautiful colours. where did you get that colour from? a beautiful colours. where did you get that colourfrom? a beautiful colour. i want to get one of them and put on of them on instead of a white shirt. i want to thank you, though, seriously. everyday, more black and latina americans are leaving behind left politicians and failed ideology, that is what they are. they failed for many years and many are. they failed for many years and any are. they failed for many years and many many decades. democrats have run nearly every inner city in america for nearly 100 years and
7:03 pm
their policies have delivered nothing but calamity, poverty and trouble. sleepy joe nothing but calamity, poverty and trouble. sleepyjoe biden has betrayed lack and latina americans. if you think you can run this country, you are wrong. —— black and latino americans. shipping jobs to china, that is what they have been doing. we have been bringing them back. we have been charging china a lot of money too with the tariffs, a lot of money too with the tariffs, a lot of money too with the tariffs, a lot of money. billions and billions of dollars. opening your borders to mass illegal immigration and the wall is now 380 miles long. it will $0011 wall is now 380 miles long. it will soon be finished. trapping us in endless foreign wars, these ridiculous foreign wars that last for19 ridiculous foreign wars that last for 19 years. our people are coming back home. you know that. and send you out to the rich loyalist wall street donors. they have the wall street donors. they have the wall street donors. they have the wall street donors and want them and someday street donors and want them and someday someone street donors and want them and someday someone will have to write a story about that. black and latino
7:04 pm
americans are rejecting the radical socialist left and are embracing our pro—jobs, pro—worker, probe socialist left and are embracing our pr0-jobs, pro—worker, probe police. we need law and order and have to have more and order and our agenda. i want to thank the organisation for organising this event. thank you very much. thank you. and especially the two founders, to great people. candice owens and former tucson police officer, brandon taylor. thank you both. greatjob. what a greatjob. two thank you both. greatjob. what a great job. two brilliant thank you both. greatjob. what a greatjob. two brilliant smart young people. great. thank you very much for being here. we really appreciated. you just marched to the white house because you understand to protect the lives of black americans and all americans, you have to have your police support. you have to have that. if the left gain power, they will launch a
7:05 pm
nationwide crusade against police power and they are doing that at a level nobody has ever seen before. in the debate biden couldn't even use the word more enforcement. he was bailed out by the anchor. i said simply, name one more enforcement group that has supported you any good not to do it. he was bailed out by the anchor. the second time, he got bailed out by that anchor a lot. taking their funds away, their firearms, fundamental authorities, taking everything away including your freedom. joe taking everything away including yourfreedom. joe biden taking everything away including your freedom. joe biden even said, when you call 911, a therapist should answer the call. that does not work. it does not work. this is the people telling him because he does not say, they tell him what to say. they have gone through a period of years, no fracking, no fracking, no fracking. all of a sudden, he gets the nomination and says they
7:06 pm
will be fracking for pennsylvania, oklahoma, texas, north dakota, all of you. there will be, if it happens, all those energy jobs of you. there will be, if it happens, all those energyjobs are gone if they get in. remember i said it, ok? remember. idon't think gone if they get in. remember i said it, ok? remember. i don't think so, either. there has been more enthusiasm, we have had more enthusiasm, we have had more enthusiasm right now, right now, this year, then we had four years ago by a factor of three times. and we had a lot. and they had none. they have no enthusiasm. for more years! for more years! for more years! for more years! for more years! they have no enthusiasm, in fa ct, years! they have no enthusiasm, in fact, the gap is so incredible and a poll just came fact, the gap is so incredible and a polljust came out and it said 56% of the people prefer their position now in the midst of a pandemic and
7:07 pm
they did four years ago. think of what that means. 56. and it is a highest poll ever recorded. 56%. tell me about that. we had it really going and then the plague came in from china, but we are getting rid of that and we are rebuilding and it will be better than it even was before. but the homes and churches and businesses of black and hispanic americans have been looted. they have been vandalised and burnt by left—wing fanatics, total bad people. they know what they are doing. yet biden likes to call in peaceful protesters. you see people, anchors from a couple of the very bad very corrupt networks standing and behind them, the cities are burning and they are saying, these are peaceful burning and they are saying, these a re peaceful protests. burning and they are saying, these are peaceful protests. you look and everything is on fire. i want to thank our law enforcement and everybody in the community and the community drives working with law
7:08 pm
enforcement. i want to thank them. i think we probably have the support of every law enforcement group in this country. i don't know any, there must be some. they will find one tonight. they will say, no, he misrepresented. but we have a level of support to the likes of which nobody has ever seen before. i don't think so. you are going to see that. and dc how many crooked ballots are being found and being turned back in and fraudulent? just what i said. and they will say, he doesn't believe in freedom. i totally believe in freedom. i totally believe in freedom. i totally believe in it and that is what we are doing, we are doing freedom. tremendous problems with the ballots. 50,000 in ohio, 25,000... you have to see it. everyday there isa you have to see it. everyday there is a story about ballots. some thrown out, military ballots were thrown out, military ballots were thrown out, military ballots were thrown out of the name trump on them. but we will swung them on so
7:09 pm
much, hopefully it will not matter. and we have more enforcement watching all of those ballots. they are being found for a reason. left—wing politicians like kamala harris, who really did not do very well the overnight. by the way, did our vice president do a good job? that was easy for him. he did a greatjob. we are on the side of right, we really are. we are on this side of right. and by the way, we are, and it is true and i stayed all the time, we are draining the swamp like nobody in history has ever drained this one. nobody in history has done it. we are here today to deliver a united message to police officers all across our great land andi officers all across our great land and i mean, every american, every race, colour, we love you. every race, colour, we love you. every race, colour, we love you. every race, colour, creed, we support you,
7:10 pm
on eu, it is a dangerous profession. they have been doing an incredible job and! they have been doing an incredible job and i just they have been doing an incredible job and ijust want they have been doing an incredible job and i just want to thank them on behalf of everybody here today because that is why we are safe. the contrast, the democrats' socialist platform, and it is more than socialist, it is beyond socialism, he says communist. yeah, that's about right. i recently announced my plan to deliver more opportunities, security, fairness and prosperity to the black community, to the hispanic unity, and you know what it is, i do not have to go over it, but it is the platinum plan. it will bring back newjobs. a level you have never seen back newjobs. a level you have never seen before. we have done a lot. but increased capital, it will increase money coming into the black community, to the hispanic community where it has been very much shut out
7:11 pm
and advanced very much homeownership and advanced very much homeownership and wealth building. it is already taking place and taking place on a level... and if we had not had the pandemic, you would have seen numbers like never before. but the numbers like never before. but the numbers are already rebuilding again. we will build up a peaceful and safer neighbourhood programme like you have never seen with a higher standard of policing. we will create a health—care system that delivers better care at a lower cost. obama care is a disaster and we wa nt cost. obama care is a disaster and we want to terminated and get great health care and that is what we are doing. we will always take care of pre—existing conditions. always. i think we are at a point where we are getting it right now. if you look at what we are doing, were doing an incredible job what we are doing, were doing an incrediblejob in health care. less expensive health care and a much, much better health care at a much less expensive price. you cannot do better than that and it is happening
7:12 pm
and happening fast. school choice, another thing, you have to have school choice. charter schools, school choice. charter schools, school choice. charter schools, school choice. i make this statement eve ryo ne school choice. i make this statement everyone is in a while and people think it is on the bold side, but we have achieved a historic reduction of violent crime. we signed a landmark criminal justice reform bill that nobody thought was possible to even think about. i did that. i did that. that is president donald trump making his first public appearance, his first public event at the white house since being ill with corona. talking about feeling great. let's speak more about what he has been saying with our correspondence in washington. great to see you. thank you forjoining us. to see you. thank you forjoining us. your first thoughts on what president trump has been saying. us. your first thoughts on what president trump has been sayingm was really interesting. the white house what pains to stress that this was not a campaign event and this
7:13 pm
was not a campaign event and this was an event by the white house stop if it was a campaign event, they would have been tricky things to get around with what you can have in white house grounds etc. they were at pains to say that, but it did seem at pains to say that, but it did seem like for all intents and purposes, everything you would expect in a trump campaign event. he spoke about all of the talking points and bashing joe biden, saying that at one point the democrats are communists. this event was billed as a warand communists. this event was billed as a war and order event. it was organised in conjunction with a group called blexit. they are trying to get the black and latino voters to get the black and latino voters to vote for the republican party. donald trump was stressing a lot of
7:14 pm
his keep talking point and seemed a lot more energetic than we have seen him in days gone past. the other message he would have been keen to get across is, i have beat covid. as you say, just a few weeks until the election and we heard him mention candice owens. tell us more about the blexit group, because he seems to be speaking strongly to the black and latino audience today. yes, black and latino voters overwhelmingly, i am talking generally because there are complexities, but overwhelmingly vote for the democratic party. there are vote for the democratic party. there a re key vote for the democratic party. there are key states where they will really make a big impact. in florida, the latino vote will be huge and that is a key state in order to win the election. similarly, mitch again is a state one on a tiny majority last time. —— mitch again. donald trump will try
7:15 pm
to chip away at that support from black and latino people for the democratic party. the blexit, from this quite a sort of flamboyant activist conservative activist, candice owens, a black woman herself, trying to tell black and latino people that the democratic party is not the only choice and when it comes to economic empowerment, donald trump is the man for you. he himself says nobody has done as much for black people as he has. i am sure you will continue to keep an eye on this development for you. —— for us. here is a democratic strategist based in washington and a strategist based in washington and a strategist who has worked on the 2016 presidential campaign for republican candidate marco rubio. thank you both forjoining us. let's
7:16 pm
start with you, christina. let's get your reaction to what we have been hearing donald trump saying. it sounded very much like campaign talk. yes, this is a campaign event. kind of like the convention being held on the white house lawn. not supposed to happen but these guys for doubles and they are clearly doing that and regards for the message and the timing of it, how will that be received ? message and the timing of it, how will that be received? this is happening at a time when he is just a few days away from a covid diagnosis. yes, this continues to demonstrate his disregard for the virus and more importantly, the this regard for the american people. he is putting more people in danger literally working around him in the week he has insisted in being in work even though he has a positive test instead of pointing like you should. more than that, i think
7:17 pm
wanting to chip away at the black and latino vote. he does not —— he will not win it, but he needs to move three to five points. he will try to move them and convince them otherwise. i think it will backfire. whilst being more and order message worked, it takes on a new meaning after what happened after the attempt on the governor in mitch again. he was talking quite a lot again. he was talking quite a lot again about law and order and painting the kind of picture of the future he sees that a republican government versus what he would turn a socialist democratic government. we saw... it goes back to what the
7:18 pm
president does when he campaigns, going back and doing a big public events. it is what he has done since day one of his political career and what he is doing today and throughout the course of this campaign. it is also recognising that, look, there will be a finite amount of time in this campaign left and the debate appear for the moment not to be taking place. the president is trying to find vehicles to get his message out to people and giving public speeches today at the white house, or giving campaign rally speeches are the vehicles for the trump to speak to the american people and the voters nationwide. the trump to speak to the american people and the voters nationwidelj apologise, people and the voters nationwide.” apologise, i call you mark, it is actually matte. sorry for that oversight. could i also get you to talk about delivering a united message when it looks like the nation is anything but? both
7:19 pm
candidates recognise that law and order is on the ballot. it will be the nominee who talks about uniting the nominee who talks about uniting the country that will win this race. even before he got covid, the campaign were trying to move away from talking about the virus and talking about other key themes that the campaign views that trump can resonate with people on. things like thejobs and resonate with people on. things like the jobs and the economy and the future. this election is not going to... the president will get across the line by making this election for the line by making this election for the future and that is what we will see the presence do between now and election day. christina, tells a bit about the fact that this hasn't met about the fact that this hasn't met a public event is coming after his
7:20 pm
covid diagnosis and this is a pandemic affecting the united states and the entire world. what role is this playing in how people are looking at their voting patterns, if you weeks from now? to disagree with matt, i think your own of is the issue and while the trump campaign issue and while the trump campaign is trying to have some diversionary tactics with anything they can find and trying to get red meat to their base and inspire them to come out, the coronavirus and failure of this administration that leads to 212,000 american lives needlessly lost is the issue. people are scared and the way he has handled his own diagnosis in nine days, people are more scared. he didn't even learn a lesson when he himself got it. but for the amazing health care you got thanks to taxpayers, the rest of us do not qualify for it and you are trying to take away our health care at the same time in a supreme court
7:21 pm
case coming up around the corner. i think all these issues culminate into coronavirus and make us realise, this is not the guy to lead us realise, this is not the guy to lead us forward. christina and matt, thank you so much forjoining us with your thoughts. let's speak to a doctor at stanford university medical school and he joins us to discuss what it means from a medical perspective for present trump to host a event so soon after testing positive for coronavirus. good to see you, doctor and thank you for joining us. what do you make of this event. how much risk is the president putting himself in an over people putting themselves in by attending this event? —— and other people. first, from where he was standing, ido people. first, from where he was standing, i do not know that he was a particular risk to anybody. many studies have shown that the highest
7:22 pm
risk of infection is happening in the early days of infection. he was at most risk to other people when he himself was just beginning to be symptomatic. by about seven to ten days out, most people's household contacts days out, most people's household co nta cts a re days out, most people's household contacts a re not days out, most people's household contacts are not getting further infections. they all happen early on. i do not see him as a particular risk, but i think that the amount of people crowding together and not wearing masks as a matter of pride is inherently risky and perhaps what is inherently risky and perhaps what is more risky is the subtle message being conveyed that you do not need masks and do not need to do these things to prevent infection. all of our studies have been shown that one of the few things that does seem to diminish transmission is masks. my concern is less about him transmitting infection and the risk to people around him. when he was askedif to people around him. when he was asked if he had tested positive, retested positive for coronavirus,
7:23 pm
he said he was either at the bottom of the scale or free, how did you interpret that? el hull it is difficult to interpret it and any of the —— difficult to interpret it and any of the -- it is difficult to interpret any of the medical information coming out of the president. many still test positive for the virus or a long time after they have recovered. it does not mean they are infectious, which is why the general recommendation is beyond ten days, especially when one is asymptomatic, there is no need to further isolate. that said, the president is a special case. he was clearly ill enough to require steroid use, which is not given to everybody, and he was hospitalised. he is not your run of the mill patient with covid we can recommendations —— make recommendations for. so until we have more data around what happened to him, it is difficult to say.
7:24 pm
standing up there, he looked as well as he did when he went to hospital. thank you very much for your time today. he is the bbc‘s north america reporter in washington. good to see you, anthony. anthony is somewhere, i think he can hear me. i hope you can hear me, anthony. i see him somewhere. anthony, talk to us about what message president trump is sending from that balcony today. the message of what he is saying, as your previous guest mention, it started out the coronavirus disappearing and he appreciated the well wishes from supporters. its transition to a typical campaign rally speech, talking about law enforcement, the economy, his political opponents. the other message isjust for political opponents. the other message is just for him to
