hello and welcome to sportsday. good evening. yesterday fans began to return to football league grounds across the country — today, another lifeline for clubs, as the premier league and the efl have agreed a financial bail out to help save those struggling as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. the total amount is 250 million pounds — 50 million of which will be given to clubs in leagues one and two. meanwhile, money will be put up to help secure a 200 million pound loan for championship clubs. our sports editor dan roan has been following this story for us — dan, football was divided on this issue — but the game seems to have come together to find a solution? that's right. he remembered several weeks ago the primarily operate offered an initial deal worth £50 million to be efl which it rejected on the basis that it was purely for and two and it left out the

championship. he did say it would look at championship clubs if they we re look at championship clubs if they were in desperate straits on an ad hoc basis and would not let any goal but it was not deemed sufficient by the efl but no thanks, and everything stand the pressure has been mounting from government and plans on the richest need in the world given the billion pounds it spent for the transfer window and support for the rest of the football family. as you say today finally it was improved of which was now accepted now it's £250 million package quarter of £1 billion it represents only a slight improvement from that initial one and i'll explain why. there is £50 million to help the football league pay for £200 million loan and it will come from elsewhere, from a bank or institution but the repayment will bea institution but the repayment will be a perked up to £50 million by the
6:35 pm
primary and helping them that way that's money will be kept £8 million per championship club and it's designed to help them pay their tax bill. separate from that there is still £50 million as there was previously to be going to need to but this time it's all in grants as opposed to a mixture of loans and grants. 30 million of that will be paid immediately as soon as next week perhaps an clubs like this one they will get around £375,000 minimum and need to eat a to b a quarter of £1 million per club so that will be of huge help to them and that additional funds perhaps that will be of huge help to them and that additionalfunds perhaps if they apply for it and ensure they needed. this will be of huge relief initially to clubs that have been without crucial match day revenue for so long. but still the fight goes on and it's difficult. what has been their reaction to the fact that the deer has come out? it is a club
6:36 pm
that finds itself in tier 3 so it cannot make other clubs throughout the country in tier 2 have found back yet i was done at shrewsberry yesterday to see fans they are having to wait so that all the other clu bs having to wait so that all the other clubs in tier 3 so bare skin and real financial clubs in tier 3 so bare skin and realfinancial pain. clubs in tier 3 so bare skin and real financial pain. i clubs in tier 3 so bare skin and realfinancial pain. i spoke clubs in tier 3 so bare skin and real financial pain. i spoke to the chief executive david bottomley who a short while ago and this was his reaction to the news. it is good to have but please let me put it in context. for a crime black questionnaire it was less than two months of the normal so it's a great deal to have and not appearing to be ungrateful. we are grateful it's a great injection but on it will not be enough to ensure survival of all of the clubs in leaguei be enough to ensure survival of all of the clubs in league i and two. for fans of the clubs in league i and two. forfans coming of the clubs in league i and two. for fans coming through the toy this week now a financial bailout it's got to be a significant day for football. it is unique and what the community was asked to do in this
6:37 pm
situation was not being asked of businesses in other industries. it's kind of voluntary rescue package. this is very significant and not just this point but beyond aslan and it has been a long—running saga that has not been great for the replication of the game. it has exposed but at least now there is agreement and the hope will be this will be another positive step and of course football needed something because it was left out from that £300 million bailout package the government announced a couple of weeks ago for a spectator sport. clu bs weeks ago for a spectator sport. clubs like this desperately needs some help and have got that but as i say the battle continues. the subject of a bbc finance football hold today. the parties have been having a say on the controversial idea of an elite league of top clubs. what have fans
6:38 pm
had to say about that because some people of the idea and some people just say i would rather watch their premier league. that is it. 0pinions are split as he would expect to be honest. it is usually controversial. a potential new competition that would see your‘s best teams including the big six from the premier league break away from all of the domestic competition. whatever your club is this a debate. whatever your club is this a debate. what do fans make up the idea? the bbc and pulling service have collected data from £2100 and it it all depends on the aid as well as the club they support and where they live. let start with age. of all of the funds that we spoke to. younger fa ns the funds that we spoke to. younger fans said they liked the idea of a new super league. it is almost half of the at 48% like the idea but that is in complete contrast. defendant and an older generation, 10% of
6:39 pm
pounds of the age of 55 like the idea. why are more of the younger generation team? i have been speaking to the podcast or who says it's because of the changes in how football is being consumed. people are not able to watch on television and a move water —— move around more and a move water —— move around more and there is more dynamic movement from your local area and people stick with the clubs and their family had supported which is fair enough and you have a lot of people supporting clubs from different areas. in that way you have less people coming from a local area towards the game and the younger generation in particular are not as fast about the local aspect i think asa fast about the local aspect i think as a risk on die. that means if you have got an opportunity to play against the top side of europe in and week out and you are watching on television you accept that because it gives you more of an opportunity to look at those games and think wow, every weekend we have got a fixture i cannot wait to see and i
6:40 pm
think people have forgotten that it would mean for the match going fans especially travelling across europe every second weekend and that in itself has been swept under the radar by this fervor of i would love to see a play one weekend and carry on in that vein because it would on paper bring the best players in the world altogether on a more regular basis. it'll be a lot of travel involved. especially for those fans who want to follow that team at every game. as i before opinion really is divided. we have got a treat about this article. he said: just the teams are involved would be solidly embodied. the opinion of fans was notjust based on the age as i mentioned before. it also changed according to where they live. the idea of a new european

legal is most popular in london with about 45% of fans keying on the prospect but if you compare that to the northwest with the likes of liverpool and both manchester clubs to be involved only 30% of fans working but then if you look at the northeast, the east of the country and the southwest only around 20% of fa ns were and the southwest only around 20% of fans were keen on the idea. that is where they are on the fans are based in the country and finally we can look at the fans from specific clu bs. look at the fans from specific clubs. here is a snapshot where they we re clubs. here is a snapshot where they were the team that came out on top. 28% working on the idea with the likes of premier league liverpool at the bottom of this with just 30% and isaid the bottom of this with just 30% and i said there is much more on all of this on the bbc sport website and it's always what's going to be a contentious topic. but it's safe to say opinions are split across all fa ns say opinions are split across all fans of football. quite like how it

is at the moment. it could be good. thank you very much for that. the four winds out of four so far in their group. taught in our where they will be kicked off they only needed a draw to score to secure their qualification to the knockout stage. they are 1—0 down at the moment and less there are already through. no goals in that game. it is 2—0 at the moment and they meeting when home against them to make the last 32. a jockey has spoken for the first time since being banned for testing positive for cocaine. championjockey 0isin murphy has spoken for the first time since being banned for testing
