exodus from london on saturday night. it's not really a shock. i think, if anything, night. it's not really a shock. i think, ifanything, it night. it's not really a shock. i think, if anything, it was a surprise that this was not happening sooner. surprise that this was not happening sooner. we keep getting these warnings about how serious this is but hearing that will be a locked out in the new year or that tier 4 will be found in the new year, if you think it's so serious why are you think it's so serious why are you doing it now? i will do my area that obviously i thought about so often is yorkshire in the north and not to be too parochial but you've get a feel for areas such as parts of west yorkshire and manchester and other places that have been under what were tier 3 restrictions for so long now, and may go back into tier 4 long now, and may go back into tier [iif long now, and may go back into tier 4 if these areas that are being reported is correct. it's been awful for most people. awful for the people putting into tier 4 for most people. awful for the people putting into tier a recently and awful of north as well. we got to get control of it and it's a race to get control of it and it's a race to either get the vaccine out there before this new strain takes hold

too much. i can festeri struggle with brexit deadlines, i also confess i struggle with remembering the different tiers and rules for different ones. in some ways, do not try to be flippant here for you base the remember, right, this is that. i go to work if i have to go to work, if not a stay at home and don't see anyone else. is this the point where it's just clarity and needed for everyone, or is this a hit that you think the country should not be taking? they put they are doing here is that it's rather like the brexit thing in the sense that there's this kind of invisible deadline that everyone knows is not actually true. ina similarway everyone knows is not actually true. in a similar way we are heading for a national lockdown, tier 4 is national lockdown in name only or whatever. the opposite of that. and that's the direction we are going in. given what we know about the new strain and transmissibility of it, the way that the rates, the impact that it has in the er rate, and the

way that they that it's not containing it. the next natural leap isa containing it. the next natural leap is a national lockdown. i think that's what we can expect the next ten and the fact that we have the vaccination, being a minister already a really need to wrap it up because it seems as if that's the only way out of this terrible situation we find ourselves in. but ido situation we find ourselves in. but i do expect there to be full national lockdown coming in january until they have vaccinated the most vulnerable. the big question is how can they do that as quickly as possible? i don't need to debate about lockdown is a moot point and gone, about lockdown is a moot point and o about lockdown is a moot point and gone, we got to be in lockdown but the question is how quickly can we get out of it now. i tried not to be on twitter, but i did notice that tier ten was trending on twitter as a sort ofjoke about how on earth is to get worse and worse. i won't even tell you what was on that. we will look at the final newspaper now and metal and it looks at a point we we re metal and it looks at a point we were talking about. want to protect

patients, gps can raise concerns over vaccine delays. this mass vaccine roll—out almost erased now against the covid variant. take us to the story if you will. this is concerned saying that as you get deliveries of the vaccines they can start administering it. they are ready to go, they want to give it to their patients. you've got 42% of hospitals at the moment have had deliveries of the vaccine. gp sites are waiting. we know from earlier today that we are getting some roll—out and care homes now. it's all kind of ramping up, but it really is this race against time. as madeleine said it's the only way out of lockdown, and gps want to get these doses in peoples arms. people wa nt to these doses in peoples arms. people want to have vents that they can out there about their everyday lives as normally as we can in the next few months. to this process go faster and do you know anyone that is had
10:50 pm
it? who's had the vaccination? yes. at my grandma has had her first dose la st at my grandma has had her first dose last week. wednesday. she just turned 93 so she is in a most vulnerable category at the doctors surgery vulnerable category at the doctors surgery and she seems to be doing very well since she had it. she's ready to go about her business basically. when you hear about these kinds of stories that this is not been the case for many hospitals are bent on the country, it does make you think that this is very worrying indeed. because this is the root out for us, but the government has not, it's way to be a huge undertaking. it would require a state to be marshalled in a way so effectively and efficiently they would have to start thinking creatively about how you can combat what site you can requisition to administer the vaccine and this kind of stuff. even when you hear this quite early—stage when you hear this quite early—stage when the half of hospital trust yet to receive their supplies, makes you think this is quite an undertaking in the government has not exactly

cove red in the government has not exactly covered itself in glory when it comes to these kinds of widescale schemes. you see stuff like this and get a very bad feeling about it. schemes. you see stuff like this and get a very bad feeling about itm a really wonderful story about your grandma, that makes us very happy in a difficult day. but if he for you both, shielding, which is for 2021 ina both, shielding, which is for 2021 in a couple of sentences? i'll be able to leave my home. to be able to buy look to be able to go and have a long lunch with some friends that i don't live with, and spend an afternoon doing things indoors. madeleine? go to the pub is a friend to have a proper chat. the people spending all the time and social media now and not being able to see real friends the real world is making us all a bit mad and grumpy and actually a bit intellectually fluffy. | and actually a bit intellectually fluffy. i think and actually a bit intellectually fluffy. i think is making us totally mad. thank you to you both, i shall see you both in a bit.

that's it for the papers for now. if you're in the uk, geraldine and madeline will be back in just over half an hour to look at more of the stories being covered by newspapers and websites here. goodbye for now. good evening. i'm ben croucher with a round up of the day's sports news. we'll start in the efl cup where arsenal's struggles continued as they were thumped 4—1 at home by manchester city in the quarter finals. languishing 15th in the premier league, arsenal were quickly behind against the defending champions when gabrieljesus had the freedom of the six yard box. alexandre lacazette equalised to make it 1—all at half time before a howler from the arsenal keeper alex runnarson allowed riyad mahrez to restore city's lead. phil foden and aymeric laporte put the result beyond doubt and keep city on track for a fourth straight league cup. for arsenal their last domestic win was on the 1st of november.

there was a great story in the evening's other league cup game as brentford reached a major semi—finalfor the first time in their history. josh dasilva scored the only goal — as newcastle became brentford's fourth premier league scalp in the competition this year. disappointing because we missed a wonderful opportunity of taking the clu b wonderful opportunity of taking the club into a semi final where it has not been for a0 odd years or wherever it is. i have to accept what's coming my way and accept the criticism which is fullyjustified, because we certainly have not played well enough tonight. to win the tyre which is a big disappointment. premier league players at clubs in tier a areas will soon be tested for coronavirus twice a week. top flight players have only been tested weekly since the start of this season. but with cases increasing in london and the south east of england, testing in those areas is stepping up to the same levels used during ‘project restart‘ in the summer. it'll happen as soon as it's practically possible.
10:54 pm
the efl have also confirmed they'll review and strengthen coronavirus protocols over the christmas period to help minimise the risk of transmission. one side currently impacted is league 0ne's ipswich town. their next two games are off after seven positive tests within the first team squad and staff. manager paul lambert is one of them and while the football league say they're looking at increasing protocols, lambert is critical of the measures currently in place. i think we've been left out there to fend for ourselves. i think everybody should follow suit with that protocol. this one thing of completeness but not being tested at all. it doesn't really matter what team it is. we deserve to be treated the same with the testing, which if you don't think like this are going to happen more and more. fifa has lodged a criminal complaint against its former president sepp blatter in connection with the finances of a museum project in switzerland.

could 2021 finally be there year we see one of the most eagerly anticpated fights in british boxing history. anthonyjoshua versus tyson fury for an almighty heavyweight unification bout — with all four belts on the line for the first time in history. talks are ongoing between the two camps. joshua has told us he'll fight fury any time, anywhere. iam certain, iam keen, iam ready. we can do it back here if we have to. honestly, it is about tyson fury, but at the same time it is not. it is about me challenging myself and getting my hands on that belt. i want to be an undisputed heavyweight champion, that is legacy. and also brings the attention to boxing. me tyson fury, aside from the trash talk and the height of the fight, we can do eg greatjob of bringing attention to boxing and say this is the biggest fight in history. we have come from a little community gym, give us some support, and who knows what
