so 50 their dream goes on. the dream's over for west brom and sam allardyce. his former club blackpool score an upset, against their premier league opponents. and australia appear on course to win the third test against india hello, and welcome to sportsday. non—league side chorley have written themselves another chapter of remarkable fa cup history this afternoon. they beat derby county of the championship by 2—0. derby were missing all their first team, due to a coronavirus outbreak. but sixth tier chorley took full advantage — and are now one of the last 32 teams left in the competition.
7:46 pm
jo currie reports. derby county fans would have struggled to pick anyone out of chorley‘s line—up, but also their own. after a covid outbreak saw their first team replaced with under—23s and 18—year—olds. they kept boss wayne rooney at home. for non—league league hosts an opportunity like no other to reach the fourth round for the first time. and chorley have scored! and the label of underdogs didn't last long, a set piece county unable to clear their lines scrappy, but they won't care. will thompson with the opportunity to make it to before the break, with this audacious effort towards a goal. a change of ends, but no change of pace for the home side, derby's inexperienced defence getting caught out and one of the opposition‘s players on target again. derby were in danger of getting mullered, as chorley kept on coming.
7:47 pm
then beating in the eighth to get the game out of sight. chorley, a round for the fa cup! and that was enough. it's an unbelievable feeling, isn't it? you know, it's fantastic for the club and will keep us going for a long time financially. the boys have done so well. a top effort for us and we are so happy. a place in the fourth round, vital prize money secured and for some of these players the biggest win in their careers. # it isn't over... # chorley‘s fa cup journey continues. jo currie, bbc news. ido i do wonder what adele thinks that singing. there's one all—premier league encounter going on, between the holders arsenal and newcastle united, and the match has gone into extra time. there were many clear chances in the first 90 minutes — andy carroll could have won it for newcastle late on, though arsenal have had the best chance in extra time. granit xhaka forced martin dubravka into a stunning save. penalties could be on the horizon.
7:48 pm
but i've got to tell you arsenal have just scored. it is a 1—0 to arsenal in the second part after half time. you can catch the game now on bbc one and bill smith was sent off for arsenal there, but that was rescinded by dar and he is on the field still and it looks like he could have scored the goal for arsenal, 1—0 there as it goes into the final stages of that match, so arsenal leading 1— nil in the third round. there we are, a nice finish there from smith row. well let's get up to speed on the rest of the third round. adam wild joins me in the studio — and adam, more joy for other sides lower down the football ladder today? yeah, lots of drama, lots of excitement in the fa cup today, no fewer than four fa premier league teams take and into extra time by lower league opposition. let's start with blackpool, who have

a famous victory this afternoon. the league one side were up against premier league side west brom. an absolutely terrific game at bloomfield road. blackpool it was that took the lead, jerry yates with the goal before half time. west brom though, got the equaliser — shay ajayi with this excellent header. but blackpool retook the lead — a really super goalfrom gary madine. they couldn't hang on though — a penalty 10 minutes from normal time from costa perreira levelled things again. it went to penalties, and blackpool goalkeeper chris maxwell — who's just come back from 10 days out with covid — was the hero, saving three penalties. so, sam allardyce's dreadful start at west brom continues, but what an afternoon for blackpool. spending ten days away from the boys and then spending an extra three daysjust getting back into the swing of things, it's... it has been difficult and i wasn't very well with it. as well as matty, who had it.
7:50 pm
it is horrible what is going on at the minute, but i am glad to be back playing and contributing, like i did today. there was so nearly another surprise at burnley. mk dons came within a whisker of beating them in normal time. they came so close, did the league one side. cameronjerome opened the scoring for them with this header. that's his first goal against a premier league side forfive years. they kept that lead right up until the very final moments, you can see there the burnley keeper matic vydra sliding in the equaliser. no goals in extra time so it went to penalties — phil bardsely with the winning strike. burnley going into the next round. i thought we deserved to win it over the role. to win it overall. the amount of chances we created, the quality of chances. i don't want to discredit... they brought the game on. they kept trying to play, they kept trying to play and affect the game to get another goal,

so credit to them for that. fulham were yet another premier league side who were taken right to the wire by a side lower down the league. they were at qpr for a west london derby. goalless after the regulation 90 minutes, so it went to extra time — scott parker's side taking control from then on. bobby decordova—reid finally finding the net, and then just a few moments later neeskens kebano smashing in a second. so, 2—0 it finished there. earlier on, in one of the lunchtime kick offs, everton were also taken to extra time by lower league opposition. they were up against rotherham, who have their own battles in the league, of course, they're down to 23rd in the championship. everton, though, went ahead very early on, tosun giving them the lead with a very neat finish. that was in the first ten minutes. rotherham though managed an equaliser, the american matthew olasunde with the turn and finish to level things up.
7:52 pm
it went to extra time, but abdoulaye doucoure got the decisive goal so 2—1 it finished after extra time. that was just a couple of minutes into extra time. lots of games today — all the results are over on the bbc sport website, including a first win in six months for sheffield united. bbc.co.uk/sport is where you'll also find in—play highlights of those games that are still ongoing. we've heard about arsenal and newcastle. brentford are leading against middlesbrough and plymouth are ahead against huddersfield. and still to come, manchester united taking on watford, kick off at old trafford for that one in just a few minutes‘ time. lovely a few minutes‘ time. stuff, adam, thank you very much lovely stuff, adam, thank you very much indeed for that. let's turn our attentions to scotland now — and the weather has caused havoc to games there. 12 scottish cup ties were postponed and dundee united's match against stjohnstone in the premiership was called off due to a frozen pitch. two games did go ahead today in the top flight, though —

7:54 pm
australia closed on 103—2, a lead of 197 runs. nick parrott reports. australia may no longer boast the top—ranked test batsmen, but they do still have the world's number—one bowler. that man is pat cummins and this is why he is the best. he had dismissed one of india's two top scorers yesterday and added the other in today's devastating display, ending with four wickets for just 29 runs. it wasn't just the bowling attack that had left the tourists reeling. the fielding was pretty spectacular too. josh hazlewood's the pick of three run outs that helped the hosts move into a commanding position. josh's... has run out. especially... seemingly out of nowhere. i thought the attitude was fantastic. you had everyone driving around in the outfield and... you know, they weighed in, taking the balls to the body and close,

so a really good team effort today. in reply australia's two batsmen, steve smith and labuschagne, are building a fine partnership. if they can continue it on day four, india face having to change a highly india face having to chase a highly improbable target or bat out more than a full day to avoid defeat. nick parrott, bbc news. world number one judd trump has had to drop out of snooker‘s masters tomorrow — after testing positive for covid—i9. trump was due to play david gilbert in his opening match in milton keynes. he's now been replaced byjoe perry. another player — jack lisowski — also tested positive and misses out. both will now undergo a period of self—isolation. the favourite secret reprieve eased to victory in the welsh grand national at chepstow. ridden by adam wedge, secret reprieve was under little pressure after the finaljump — giving trainer evan williams his first welsh national win. the two amigos came second, with yala enki in third.

so let's just go back to the arsenal versus newcastle match, it is coming to the end of that game after the second period of extra time there and arsenal are now two goals up against newcastle, the holders for looking good progress. emile smith row scored the first goal, in extra time, and the second there as well. with another player. so arsenal looking good there to get through to the fourth round of the fa cup and you can catch the closing stages of that over on bbc one now. that's all from sportsday. thanks for watching, we will see you later on, take care, have a good evening! hello there. we are seeing a real mixture of weather around today. across parts of east anglia, fog laying all day, with temperatures for some staying below freezing, sa nton downham, for example. temperatures about —i.5 celsius at best.
7:57 pm
sunshine did come out elsewhere across the uk and in the sunnier moments temperatures reached around 3 or 4 degrees quite widely, but the mildest weather was in western scotland, where the hebrides saw temperatures as high as 8 celsius and that milder air will continue to push into western scotland as we go to night. as we go through the night. there will be some rain around, maybe a bit of wintriness for a time across parts of scotland, just enhancing the risk of icy stretches here and certainly there will be some snow showers at times in shetland. and that fog reforming, re—thickening across parts of east anglia and across parts of southern england as well. now, tomorrow the mist and fog should clear. we will see the brighter skies working as we go through the morning into the afternoon, looking fine across southern portions of the uk. further north we have got cloud and rain, damp weather at times for northern ireland, the north—west of england and wales, but the heaviest rain will be in western areas of scotland. temperatures milder, looking at highs across the uk of 5—7 , although still cold air loitering in shetland with further snow showers here. on into monday, we are getting even milder air pushing

in off the atlantic, but with that comes some stronger west— south—westerly winds and some rain. now, the rain is going to be at its heaviest in western scotland, where combined with snowmelt there is a risk of seeing some localised flooding building on here. so to the northern edge of the system we may well see some snow, certainly some snow showers again affecting shetland and perhaps orkney as well, whereas further south it is mild, temperatures 8 or 9 celsius, so those temperatures are a lot higher than we have seen for a couple of weeks for most of us. now, as that rain works through, for tuesday we start to pull in northerly winds again, bringing a short, sharp blast of cool air. so there will be some frost around to start the day on tuesday, but sparkling visibility, good sunny spells for most of us the risk is a few showers just coming down on the north sea coasts. now, temperature—wise it is going to be colder day for many areas, 3—4 c across open areas, but still relatively mild further south, 8,
