of the football association, says social media platforms have a responsibility to create safe environments and to hold people accountable. a number of players have been targeted this week with just one arrest being made so far. manchester united's marcus rashford described the messages he has received as "humanity and social media at its worst". nesta mcgregor reports. taking the knee, a unified protest for racial equality. it's a gesture we've become accustomed to and, last night, the latest example of why players continue to do so. manchester united striker marcus rashford, having to respond to racial abuse he had received hours after a goalless draw away to arsenal. he posted, "i am a black man and proud that i am. "no comment is going to make me feel any different". it comes in a week where several other players have also been victims of online discrimination. there's no fear at the moment, is there? if you look at the amount of abuse that is on our platforms

at the moment, there's no fear of reprisal. people are doing it almost knowing that it's a one in how many chance of being caught? accountability is probably the biggest thing here, being accountable for the users on your platform. facebook, which owns instagram, says it is committed to tackling online abuse and it's already removed accounts from its site, but could they do more? the problem is that the reporting systems they've got in place at the moment require a player to receive and then report the abuse themselves and, by that point, the damage has already been done. but they've got other issues to deal with as well. terrorism globally is a problem that facebook has to deal with. disinformation is a problem that facebook has to deal with. earlier this week, the government held talks with footballers including liverpool captain jordan henderson with new laws set to be introduced to stop online abuse. racism is a societal issue where football is seen as a key battleground. those committed to the fight

goes for both sides the break. but leeds did eventually find a way through again, and when it came it was quite brilliant. patrick bamford with an unstoppable finish. having scored that, he then found space and opportunity for another, choosing instead to offer jack harris an empty net. leicester could have gone second. today, though, just second best. that left liverpool with an opportunity to overtake them, but against west ham taking that opportunity took some time. until the second half, mo salah with the individual effort. if that was good, his second was outstanding. liverpool taking the ball from one end of the pitch to the other. perfect passing. again, the finish sublime. although west ham did pull one back, in this title race the champions are looking like challengers once more.

earlier, chelsea won for the first time under their new manager, thomas tuchel, beating burnley 2—0 at stamford bridge. their goals came from two unlikely sources — fullback cesar azpilicueta firing in for chelsea's opener in the first half. there was also first appearance since september for marcos alonso, who got their second inside the last ten minutes. so that's four points and no goals conceded in the two games since tuchel took charge. the last premier league game of the day is approaching half—time down on the south coast — brighton taking on tottenham. gareth bale has been given only his second league start since rejoining the club. it's brighton with the lead, leandro trossard finding the bottom cornerfrom inside the box. there was a heavy 4—0 defeat for tottenham's women as chelsea stayed top of the super league. german midfielder melanie leupolz opened the scoring with the pick of the goals — she also scored a penalty.

they've now gone 33 games unbeaten! manchester united are level on points with chelsea but second on goal difference. they beat everton 2—0 thanks to goals from ella toone and christen press. in the day's other game, manchester city beat west ham 4—0. paul casey has won the dubai desert classic — his first tour title in m months. the englishman finished four shots ahead of the south african brandon stone after a two—under—par final round took him to 17 under. the four—time ryder cup player has now put himself in contention for another call—up when europe face the united states later this year at whistling straits. it's casey's 15th victory on tour. 15 wins is pretty cool. i wanted 15. 2019 was the last. i just wanted at 15. it is one of the coolest trophies in the golf, isn't it?

it's one of the iconic trophies without a doubt. i am very thankful to be able to do what i do and still be out here playing golf. we had some fans this week, so to have something like this happen, hopefully that can bring happiness to other people as well. evening, ian. he says he fell out of love with golf last year. yes, and i think that was expressed in the way that he played. this was a big win for him, his 15th on the european tour. he was full of emotion by the end of it, and it clearly meant an awful lot to him. they were a scattering of spectators there, so by no means the usual level of atmosphere at a golf course. but more than has been the norm throughout the pandemic period. maybe that helped him, because he has spoken about how difficult it has been to motivate

himself without the galleries at tournaments. but this was casey back to his absolute best, back to the player who got to number three in the world a dozen years ago, and he is still in the world's top 20. and he showed us why, really, with a very composed performance. he still has a bit of work to do to get into that ryder cup team? yes, he is playing catch—up. he is a world top 20 player. he is guaranteed to play in all of the big events. if he sustains this kind of form, he will be an absolute no—brainer for the team. i think that the big onus on him is to get there as a right. he mentioned the fact that he won't have to do rely on the pick if he can play himself into an automatic spot, and that would be hugely beneficial to the european courts. an awful lot for him to still play for. then all the big events in america.
