sports held the end may come into sight a little sooner. burnley say their women's football side — which had been an affiliate team and part of their work in the community — will now be fully integrated into the football club. that means they'll share facilities with the men's team and be operated as part of the club. the hope is it'll help burnley fc women turn professional. and win promotion to the fa women's championship by 2025. i'm really pleased to say we're joined by goalkeeper and captain lauren bracewell. how big a step forward is this for you and the players? we know the huge impact the pandemic has had on the women's game in particular — you're not able to play at the moment. — what's the impact been on you and your team—mates? — you've won back—to—back promotions into the fa women's national league it's a huge step forward in these times. women's football has grown massively manually since the women's world cup and the euros and it's great to see them growing. with that i think the new owners have clearly got an ambition and vision for the club and it's great to see women's football as a big part of that.

february is lgbt+ history month and we're continuing our series of reports by hearing from carys hall tonight. she started out as an athlete, but switched to rugby union and now plays for sale sharks in the premier 15. she's been telling us why having more role models growing up would have — in her words — "allowed her to be herself earlier." this is carys' story: and smile. hi, i'm carys hall, i play rugby for sale sharks, i'm a science teacher, i'm a woman who is black and queer. i grew up on a council estate and we were one of the few black families on that estate. and being a young person with quite a muscular bodyjust remember times when there would be young kids, isn't kids that would just say or question whether i was a boy or girl. i thought i had quite a feminine body, i can only be who i am and the muscles that i have

helped me become in my sport. the positives athletics does have is it's very multicultural. there's a lot of people with the same skin colour as me that do really well. then coming into rugby where the whole picture changes where the main players, the main celebrities if you like our white male from a private schooled individuals. being a black lady and from a council estate rugby was never going to be a sport that i played. because it was not for a sport for a person like me. i look at my team now and look at the teams i've been in. it was always a handful of black ladies on that team. i think having more role models earlier on in my life would just allow me to be myself earlier. that word to use as my identity and sexuality is queer because it's different. the rugby community in general are very open to lots of people, bodies, shapes and sizes. allows you to comfortable with who
