england. after the final twenty20 this weekend. michael bradford, bbc news. michael elliott has been banned from horse racing for 12 months after being found guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute. the final six months will be suspended. it followed a photograph of him sitting on a dead horse. the punishment was issued by the sport authorities in ireland. let's bring in laura scott — firstly, what does this band mean for gordon elliott? in the immediate sense, it means he is unable to train, he's been stripped of his licence for the next six months. and we expect the british horseracing authority to reciprocate that sanction so that it would apply in britain as well. that will clearly mean he would miss the cheltenham festival, the grand national festival in aintree next month and several major fixtures in ireland. in the last hour, the

international horse —— irish horse racing board has issued a lengthy judgment on this case, expounding that he had breached the rules by acting in a manner which they deemed prejudicial to the integrity and reputation of horse racing. they said that it had caused considerable public dismay and anger, and that they had received an avalanche of complaints. now in trying to decide on the sanction, given this is an unprecedented situation for a panel to be ruling on, they said the sanction had to reflect the seriousness of the incident and deter others. and that's how they came on this 12 month suspension with a second six months suspended, he'll also have to pay 15,000 euros in legal costs. in this judgment, they also talk about what they seem to be a concerted attack on michael elliott, but they haven't been able to find out exactly the reasons for that. they said that elliott had given no credible explanation for the image and that he had accepted

that his actions were disgraceful and horrific. but it is worth noting that they said this wasn't animal cruelty in the strictest sense, and that witnesses had told the panel that witnesses had told the panel that horses in gordon elliott's care are given care of the highest standards. but mainly, a major sanction has been given to elliott in the fact that he's been stripped of his training licence for the next six months. of his training licence for the next six months-_ of his training licence for the next six months-— of his training licence for the next six months. ., , ., ., ., six months. has gordon elliott made any comment? _ six months. has gordon elliott made any comment? how— six months. has gordon elliott made any comment? how difficult - six months. has gordon elliott made any comment? how difficult will- six months. has gordon elliott made any comment? how difficult will the | any comment? how difficult will the path back to be? he’s any comment? how difficult will the path back to be?— path back to be? he's issued a statement _ path back to be? he's issued a statement off _ path back to be? he's issued a statement off the _ path back to be? he's issued a statement off the back - path back to be? he's issued a statement off the back of - path back to be? he's issued a statement off the back of the l path back to be? he's issued a i statement off the back of the ihr path back to be? he's issued a - statement off the back of the ihr be judgment. he said that he accepted the sanction and the responsibilities that came with his position. he said he was paying a very heavy price for his error and that he has no complaints about that. but he did say his heart breaks for his staff, his family, friends and owners who've clearly also suffered as a result of his actions. he said he will never again disrespect a horse living or dead,

and he will vindicate the faith that his owners have shown — remember, one of his biggest owners is run by the ryanair boss michael 0'leary and his brother, eddie, and they've said they'll stand by. we haven't heard from them off the back of the decision, but clearly gordon elliott wanted to thank them for showing that initial support given there was so much public backlash and from winning the racing —— within the erasing industry itself. it will be incredibly hard for elliott to come back from this, given the reputational damage. and clearly, if he loses... but it is a temporary suspension, he should be back training within six months, provided they feel satisfied that that second six months of the band doesn't need to be served. he will not be on a resource or a meeting for the next six months, and if he chooses to do so, he will be on the road back to trying to get back to the heights he
