this you have business to be there. this is why this is of concern because of how unusual and how heavily guarded the place has been afterjanuary six. the place has been afterjanuary six. ~ . h, the place has been afterjanuary six. ~ . ., , six. we are getting some more news cominu six. we are getting some more news coming into — six. we are getting some more news coming into our— six. we are getting some more news coming into our office _ six. we are getting some more news coming into our office from - six. we are getting some more news coming into our office from a - six. we are getting some more news coming into our office from a treat i coming into our office from a treat from our north american editor and he says there are reports that the driver and the blue car rammed the barricade at the capital and emerged with nice. one policeman was reportedly injured and he goes on to say cnn anything the suspect apparently in custody. there is a smashed up blue car on the grounds of the us capital. the blue is up and it's all cordoned off and we believe this is the car involved. if these reports are correct it looks like i want to say underlying the fact that these reports. we don't know the real story but it looks like a lone terrorist or man or perpetrator who crashed into the barricade. ., ., , ,, barricade. that would be consistent with what we _ barricade. that would be consistent with what we are _ barricade. that would be consistent

original day of the inauguration and there are many people who believe in this conspiracy theory and many of them see the us capital and especially the democratic control of the us capital as something that i threats to democracy or affect america. we did not know if this individual is a believer in base and this is the context and background of why there has been some increase security around the capital because of the possibility of extremist trying to attack the capital again. you have been reporting on the us extensively throughout the election since the election, did you get the impression from your conversation with law enforcement and police in the area that this was a worry that something like this would potentially wary them and increase security in the area?— potentially wary them and increase security in the area? there has been creater security in the area? there has been greater attention _ security in the area? there has been greater attention on _ security in the area? there has been greater attention on how _ security in the area? there has been greater attention on how protective l greater attention on how protective the capital is. one of the proposals has been to put in permanent fencing around the us capitol at january six

and the fact that a lot of intelligence was ignored. this is something that's controversial. there are people who oppose that. i remember reporting from outside the capitol in the days leading up to the inoculation and one of the people i spoke to told me you one of the beauties of american democracy is that their government institution are open to the people. he has left them on the capital for 20 years. the us senate and congress buildings and he runs into the white house and all of these around that time were protected. this proposal to put in fencing around the us capital is something that's been good be estimated because they were for american democracy is locked out to the city centric is not something they see as a pinnacle and as a symbol of an open democratic country. symbol of an open democratic count . g , symbol of an open democratic count ., , . symbol of an open democratic count ., , ., ., ., country. just a second ago we are watchin: country. just a second ago we are watching footage _ country. just a second ago we are watching footage of _ country. just a second ago we are watching footage of my _ country. just a second ago we are watching footage of my life - country. just a second ago we are i watching footage of my life footage of the national guard coming togetherjust by of the national guard coming together just by the

front bonnet has been pushed up. these are reuters pictures that have been brought to us live from capitol hill and the area. it's a dark blue car, the boot has been popped open. the driver's door has also been blessed and i can see police forensics working around and taking photos clearly picking up as much evidence as they can and the hazard lights of this car are on. it does not look like it's got a lot of damage to be honest with you. it does not. i'm watching this video as you are as well and this barricade you are as well and this barricade you see here is part of the last security arrangement that exists around the capital and much of the fencing is gone and this individual appears to have driven deliberately into that barricade which will raise a lot of alarms with anybody watching this specifically the national guardsmen still left on the us capitol police would be quite concerned that this individual would

directly run today's barricade that supposed to stop people doing that. this place is now open to foot traffic especially if you do not have business around there if you are not a member of congress, senator, a staff member, i'm not working and is complex and i can see why this automatically had a lot of alarm bells going off but this individual came out wielding a knife which would be a major threat level and sell it as is the impact of what happened there.— and sell it as is the impact of what happened there. looking at all the olice happened there. looking at all the police men — happened there. looking at all the police men milling _ happened there. looking at all the police men milling around - happened there. looking at all the police men milling around the - happened there. looking at all the. police men milling around the area, the national guard, the us capitol police beating within minutes. it looks very much from the outside at least a looks like the situation is no longer ongoing. it's potentially over. am i correct in my assertion do you think or not? we over. am i correct in my assertion do you think or not?— over. am i correct in my assertion do you think or not? we would have to hear from — do you think or not? we would have to hear from the _ do you think or not? we would have to hear from the us _ do you think or not? we would have to hear from the us capitol- do you think or not? we would have to hear from the us capitol police . to hear from the us capitol police

is what happened in this barricade. it seems to be a huge security presence there. just based on who would be responding to an incident like this. the national guardsmen we had the that will be the us capitol police and the washington metropolitan police. these are the law enforcement agencies that would respond to this. i also imagine we have not seen any reporting of that by the fbi would be called to a myspace to assess what happened and they would be scrambling to get the air as quickly as possible and figure out exactly what happened and that's quite concerning that is happening so close to where some of america's most powerful people work. and many high—ranking officials of government all concentrated in this one complex. government all concentrated in this one complem— one complex. there is a police presence _ one complex. there is a police presence all — one complex. there is a police presence all along _ one complex. there is a police presence all along and -

i believe you witnessed this attack? i did not witnessed the attack itself but i was pretty close by keeping up with it. i'm at a block where the car running happened and pretty much around the 2300 national guard troops that have been hearing since january six initially there was the priming and much fewer troops here at the moment right now but north side of the capital has been knocked down and that's where all the buildings on the senate side are right now and police have not talked to the press yet. there keeping it in a box and they should have the story for us shortly. what do we know about what has happened? not too long ago someone ran his car into two officers all three of them have been transported to hospital and all three are thankfully alive.
