nations? after england's third title in a row. hello and welcome to sportsday. now could we be about to see a new dawn at arsenal? club legends thierry henry, dennis bergkamp and patrick viera have joined spotify founder and billionaire daniel ek in a takeover bid. the news comes just days after arsenal fans protested against the current owner, stan kroenke, after the gunners* involvement in the failed european super league. and as a result, kroenke*s relationship with the fans has never been so strained, as craig templeton reports. the attempted creation of a super league sparked a fuse everywhere. no more so than at arsenal, where the reaction has been explosive. we want

league, needing to win the roper league, needing to win the roper league if they get back into europe next year. —— the europa league. but now, three icons, thierry henry, patrick vieira and dennis bergkamp have alljoined in a bid to buy the club. will the involvement of those three start the clock ticking on kroenke? so how serious is the bid? well, let's speak live now to our senior sports news reporter laura scott. thanks very much for speaking to us on sports day. these three icons are now involved with this bid. do we know what part these three arsenal icons are playing in the deal? we do not at this stage. all we know is that they have joined daniel ek*s bid to buy the club, so quite what their role would be in that takeover remains unknown, whether it is helping him put together a package
6:37 pm
that would convince stan kroenke to sell the club or whether it would be a more formal role than that, we just do not know at this stage, other than the fact that as you say, all three of them are joining his bid. from daniel ek, we had the tweet last week saying as a kid growing up, i have cheered for arsenal as long as i can remember. if they would like to cell arsenal, or be happy to throw my hat in the ring. we have not heard from daniel since then, speculate on the bid will be coming in a few days. aspect of the arsenal supporters trust today and they say if this bid is serious, they would expect a dialogue with daniel ek in the coming days, because it is that their policy that they would at least communicate with both the owners but also anyone wanting to owners but also anyone wanting to own at the club. daniel ek*s personal fortune is around own at the club. daniel ek*s personalfortune is around £3.11 billion, but at this stage, we have not had a comment from arsenal about this proposed takeover.

you were at the emirates on friday night and witnessed the strength of feeling — this is bound to be well—received by the fans, isn't it? yes, some i spoke to see any involvement from the trio of the invincible is as a positive thing. they also seem to like the idea of daniel ek, given he seems to be a long—running supporter of the club, but what is clear from having spoken to the arsenal supporters trust and others is that whoever owns the club in the future, they want more fan involvement, they are looking to the fan led review to see change, real change in football's governance and the involvement of fans in the running of the clubs. arsenalfans are not alone in wanting that, but as things stand, they do see this as as things stand, they do see this as a positive. they want more dialogue with the kroenkes if they're not going to sell, because at this age
6:39 pm
the understanding is they do not want to sell. bedroom speaking to fans at arsenal, last friday around 2000 came to the emirates and the ones i spoke to seemed really angry about what had happened, saddened about what had happened, saddened about the fact that the super league plan had been launched behind their backs and i spoke to one fan who had been supporting arsenal since the 19605. been supporting arsenal since the 1960s. he said he hurt because of what had happened. he said he was heartbroken. i think there is a lot of reparation to be had, whether with the existing owners or indeed new owners. it with the existing owners or indeed new owners— new owners. it will be interesting to see whether— new owners. it will be interesting to see whether it _ new owners. it will be interesting to see whether it was _ new owners. it will be interesting to see whether it was one - new owners. it will be interesting to see whether it was one goes . new owners. it will be interesting - to see whether it was one goes next. laura, thank you very much. —— interesting to see where this one goes. well, meanwhile, one of those potential bidders, thierry henry, says social media companies are still doing too little to tackle racism, harassment, and bullying. henry recently quit all social media and this weekend, a coalition of english football's professional clubs and largest

governing bodies will go offline in a show of solidarity against racism. it follows boycotts by swansea, birmingham and rangers. we can now all be together and ask those big companies what they are going to do about it, because in my eyes they are doing so little about it to try and tackle racism, harassment and bullying on there. because the issue is not only about racism. as we are talking about racism, obviously we will stay in that subject, but i hope it will have an impact on those companies and they will come out with some real ideas. and if that wasn't enough thierry henry news for you, then there's more to come, because he and alan shearer have become the first players to be inducted into the premier league hall of fame. henry was, of course, a huge part of the arsenal invincibles team that went unbeaten for the entire 2003—4 season, with a club record —

175 premier league goals in 258 appearances for arsenal. shearer is the league's record scorer, with 260 goals for newcastle and blackburn rovers, who he won the title with in 1995. now england's most capped player, fara williams, has announced she'll be retiring at the end of the season. we can get more from our sports correspondent katie gornall. katie, she'd been suffering with a debilitating kidney condition her club reading called her "a true legend and pioneer". how important was she for the game? she has been huge for the game. recently i was asked to write a list of the best players in a wsl history and fara williams was the first name i put down, shejust has and fara williams was the first name i put down, she just has this incredible ability, she is a classy, creative midfielder, but has also played the game at the highest level for such a long time. she has played

at seven major tournaments for england, she was an integral part of that team that won the bronze medal in the 2015 world cup and then in the w south, she has won back to back titles for liverpool as well as fa cups with the likes of everton and arsenal. as you read at the top, she has been described as a legend and pioneer of the women's game. she is at that generation of women's football those who have seen it all, had to play with the boys as they were younger and have seen this incredible growth in the women's game in the past four years and i think the biggest thing you can say about fara williams is there are young girls today who are playing football because they have been inspired by her, they had seen her play, spoken to her, and that is why they are in the game, that is the level of her standing in the sport. katie, she'd been suffering with a debilitating kidney condition but she was back in the game, wasn't she? she was. it has been a really

challenging time for fara williams recently. her playtime had been restricted, no one knew quite what that was and that you give an interview to bbc sport and explained she had been struggling with this terrible kidney condition that had caused her to gain weight, that created a numerous side effects and thatis created a numerous side effects and that is why she struggles, so perhaps it is not quite a surprise that she has chosen to retire at this stage. she had offers to stay within the game, but she has overcome challenges in her life previously as well. she has got a life story that really extends beyond sport and was homeless for a period of time when she first started out playing for england and it is something she has spoken about more recently and that she has worked with numerous homeless charities as well and she hasn't spoken about football and reflected on her career and says that football has rarely been her comfort zone. —— she has spoken full to something that has kept her strong which is maybe something that was not
6:44 pm
surprising when she announced her retirement, she says she wants to stay in the game and take a coaching badges and i think everyone in women's football will be glad she will stay in the game and look forward to what she does next. recently, the wsl announced they were going to have a women's hall of fame head of the next season, they're starting it, and you would expect fara williams to be one of the first names on the list when that does get launched.- the first names on the list when that does get launched. yes, a true le . end that does get launched. yes, a true leaend of that does get launched. yes, a true legend of the _ that does get launched. yes, a true legend of the women's _ that does get launched. yes, a true legend of the women's game. - india all—rounder ravichandran ashwin says he's taking a break from the indian premier league to be with his family, who are "putting up a fight against covid". three australian players have also all left the tournament to return home, as the covid crisis in india worsens. on monday, the country recorded a new global high for daily cases at 352,991. and now there are growing concerns that the tournament can't continue, asjoe lynskey reports.
