it may well turn month on record. it may well turn out to be one of the sunniest and driest on record. the reason i cannot firm up on that, plenty of showers, so we need to add up the rainfall totals from today into the mix. the showers will tend to fade through this evening and overnight. and with those clearer skies temperatures are once again set to fall away. it is going to be another chilly start of the day with a touch of light frost in parts of scotland, northern ireland where we have got the blue tones. a chilly start with the blue tones. a chilly start with the early birds catching the best of the early birds catching the best of the sunshine for saturday. a beautiful start here, but that shower cloud will tend to bubble up and we will see some showers, some of those very slow moving because of very light winds. and we will be having some hail and thunder with temperatures subdued, 8—13 celsius, when we should be seeing a maximum of 17 at this time of year. pretty much a repeat performance going into

sunday. sunny spells, scattered showers, some of them heavy with hail and thunder and temperatures not too shabby, but in terms of what is happening on bank holiday monday, somebody had told the weather to change and here it is with an area of low pressure bringing wet, windy weather in from the west. so, spell of heavy rain on bank holiday monday through northern ireland, northern england, centraland through northern ireland, northern england, central and southern england, central and southern england and wales. perhaps not getting into the far north of scotland and the south—east until the end of the day, accompanied by some pretty strong winds. so it is going to feel even colder still on monday afternoon.— going to feel even colder still on monda afternoon. . ~ ., , that's all from the bbc news at six, so it's goodbye from me. and on bbc one, we nowjoin the bbc*s news teams where you are.

and took the overall lead of the tour of romandie in switzerland. britain's geraint thomas finished in the chasing pack to move up to second overall, but he's ia seconds behind soler. lewis hamilton is one of several fi drivers taking part in the social media boycott but the 7 time world champion is increasingly busy trying to hold off his rivals on the track, this time at the portuguese grand prix where red bull's max verstappen is still looking like a genuine title challenger this season. nick parrott reports. red bull started friday with the spring in this step and little wonder, max brought to victory last time out in italy and opened a repeat performance in portugal. i just hope that we are again very competitive as the last two races. but again, every single weekend, we have to make sure you're on top of the card to truly get the best out of them because it's so close between them and mercedes that we do
