good evening, welcome to the programe. now, there's only one place to start tonight and that's in glasgow because stjohnstone have been crowned scottish cup champions. they beat hibernian 1—0. and it's the icing on the cake of a brilliant season, having already won the league cup. our sports news correspondent chris mclaughlin was at hampden park for us. green against blue in scottish football's showpiece final, no rangers or celtic inside this time. and with covid numbers rising in glasgow, no fans either. small town stjohnstone were looking for the cup double. shaun rooney's winner secured in the league cup back in february... and he was at it again on the half hour at hampden park. that is the first blow- of the scottish cup final! where the club from perth ready to upset the odds

yet again? well, they had the perfect chance to put it beyond hibernian later on, a foul and a penalty given. a good save but he is there! and what about this a double save from the goalkeeper? the saints stood firm at the other end, the oldest trophy in association football back in the hands of the men from perth. very special, for a club like stjohnstone to do the double win. not many teams outside the old firm managed to do it, so a small club like st johnstone doing it. delighted for them. the whole team, the manager, it is an amazing achievement. i saw on twitter it was 10,000—1. you always take that. until 2014, stjohnstone had never won a major honour. now today, it is a cup double for the club who regularly play in front of crowds of around 4000. a phenomenal achievement and once again in scottish football it is the saints

who go marching on. it is stjohnstone's cup! it is stjohnstone's season! chris mclaughlin, bbc news at hampden park. what a season it has been for them. staying with football... there was a brilliant game earlier in the championship play—offs. brentford came from a goal down to beat bournemouth and book their place at wembley for the final. so the bees are just 90 minutes away from the premier league, but as michael redford reports, it was anything but straightforward in west london. these brentford fans have been here before, nine play—off campaigns with not a single promotion. is this the day it all changes? before they could dream of wembley, they had to fight back against bournemouth, trailing 1—0, brentford had to score, so much so, they forgot how to defend. nobody close to the striker, nobody catching him. from brentford's corner, | bournemouth has struck! a penalty, from 12 yards out, he doesn't miss.
7:48 pm
calm and composed, the same cannot be said for the goalkeeper. 0r chris mepham. bournemouth defender who did not see the striker coming and did see red moments later. with a man advantage, brentford levelled the tie with a moment to remember. and if that roar from the crowd felt loud, well, it was nothing compared to this. sending brentford to wembley for a second successive season, they will be hoping the ending will be different this time around. michael redford, bbc news. so who will they face at wembley? well the second leg between barnsley and swansea is well underway. it was 1—0 on aggregate to swansea. and the swans have doubled their lead... matt grimes with the goal in the first half... there is just over half an hour to go in that one. meanwhile, it's going to be another season

but it's been another disappointing day forformer champion rory mcilroy. he bogeyed the first hole and never really recovered. he's now five over par. that's all from sportsday. have a very good night. good evening. at least we've had a respite from the persistent rain today, although there has been a cluster of showers out and about. by the time we get to tomorrow, we have got another area of rain coming in. not as persistent and widespread as we had thursday, friday, not as windy as well. that low pressure is moving out of the way. but already behind me we have got the next one bring up. a little ridge of high pressure, though, through this evening and overnight will find that we will have quite a chilly night. the showers tending to fade away,
7:58 pm
certainly becoming lighter, this skies clearing, temperatures falling. last night, we had a touch of frost in scotland, tonight it could be more widespread. by the time we get to dawn, temperatures, even in the towns and cities, will be close to 2—3 in places. so, a grass frost around, although not in the west, because by morning we have got that next band of rain coming in. it looks like a spell of two or three hours of really quite wet weather, fairly strong winds with it for a time, as well. not as windy as thursday and friday either, but still for the time of year some strong and gusty winds. so, the best of the brightness and sunshine will be in eastern areas first thing. that will tend to fade, a few showery bursts of rain will arrive. perhaps the driest weather up to the north—east of scotland. but you can see, a wet morning for northern ireland giving way to showers, wet afternoon for western scotland, western and southern england, wales as well. it might be towards tea—time the rain reaches the east. temperatures are nothing special either because of the wind and the cloud. that weather system moves out the way, but it hangs around in the north on monday. then we have got low pressure with us through monday, through tuesday and wednesday. and again that means that we will see some of these heavy
7:59 pm
and slow moving showers we have become used to this may. so, really rather wet and windy across some northern parts of scotland. slow moving showers elsewhere. moving quite quickly in southern areas, but slow—moving downpours in the central areas of the uk because of the lighter winds. and only 13—14, which is below par. then, as we go through monday and into tuesday, it is a similar setup. although it might be that we see the showers congregating in central and eastern parts, closer to that area of low pressure. but already potentially have another little area of rain coming into the south and west. so, in the sunshine, feeling quite pleasant where the winds are light, because of course the may sunshine is strong. so, it looks like a showery start definitely. but as we go through the week, it becomes drier and less windy, and so therefore feeling a bit warmer in the sunshine. by the end of the week, we might have largely dry weather. but it is a long way off yet. as ever, please stay tuned to the forecast.
