the first day of the the third test against india could not have gone any better for england. remember, they went one down in the series at lord's after a chastening defeat there last week but responded brilliantly today, bowling the tourists out for 78. and they've built a first innings lead, with both openers still in place. let's cross live to headingley and speak to our sports correspondentjoe wilson. joe, we did not see this happening, did we? joe, we did not see this happening, did we? ., , , ~' , joe, we did not see this happening, didwe? ., , , ~' , , did we? honestly i think this is windy moser— did we? honestly i think this is windy moser michael— did we? honestly i think this is windy moser michael days - did we? honestly i think this is windy moser michael days of l did we? honestly i think this is i windy moser michael days of test cricket i can remember, certainly in a long time. the hordes are leaving headingley into the yorkshire evening sunshine. just as you said, the context for this match is india full of confidence after that victory at lord's, then virat kohli goes and wins the toss for once. we will bat, everything seemed fine with him, and then 78 all out. let's start by running through some of the wickets. i might have to put my glasses onto jacket really happened, but james glasses onto jacket really happened, butjames anderson once again was really at the heart of it and the

start of it for england, taking the first three wickets to fall, including that of virat kohli, gone for seven, jos buttler taking the catch there. took five catches in the innings. anderson was supported by the other bowlers. ollie robinson, finished with figures of 2-16 robinson, finished with figures of 2—16 from his ten overs, and we saw him get rid of one. think back to what happened at lord's. it was a real tail and effort in the second innings that got india back into the match to win it. did not happen this time. one of those tail edges fail cheaply, dismissed by sam curran. sam kerr it also played his part, as he got two wickets in two balls —— sam curran. greg overton into the bowling line—up. baby doesn't have the express pace of mark would, but made his contribution with three wickets, including the final want to

call. 78 all out there india, and as you mentioned england, to bat with a new look partnership, and itjust goes from strength to strength. it really is remarkable, but when he did of this turnaround, because there were so many questions... —— when you think of this turnaround. the tactics, that fragile batching order as well, but they have all been answered in the space of three sessions. . ~ ,., ., ., sessions. yeah. i think so. to a lane sessions. yeah. i think so. to a large extent. — sessions. yeah. i think so. to a large extent, absolutely. - sessions. yeah. i think so. to a large extent, absolutely. i- sessions. yeah. i think so. to a| large extent, absolutely. ithink large extent, absolutely. i think one thing joe root admitted in the wake of that defeat at lord's, on that final day, certainly got carried away with an aggressive style of bowling. today england's building was focused on taking wickets. headingley is associated with real aerobic england victories
6:40 pm
in the past. if you don't have much experience here, certainly in test match is... in terms of england's batching, this new look opening partnership, haseeb hameed does like to open the batting with rory burns. they batted with real patients but also took the chance to play their shots. there was one notable six from rory burns, lots of four too, so they kept the scoreboard ticking over, did not get stuck in what we have seen from england's top order in recent times. it is really early days but certain terms of that early partnership, an ongoing issue for england for severe we suggest they are —— dare we suggest they are a step closer to solving it. the -- dare we suggest they are a step closer to solving it.— closer to solving it. the first day ofthe closer to solving it. the first day of the third _ closer to solving it. the first day of the third test _ closer to solving it. the first day of the third test at _ of the third test at headingley. many things indeed.

the transfer window shuts in six days, but one of the sagas of the summer has been put to bed. harry kane says he's staying at spurs. even before the euros, he dropped some heavy hints that he wanted to join manchester city, city wanted him. then, when he seemingly turned up late for preseason training and was left out of the squad for the opening match against city — that spurs won — that looked to be it, a move would surely materialise. but after a cameo off the bench against wolves over the weekend, kane has put this out on his social media platforms... of course, the head coach nuno espirito santo was asked about this earlier this afternoon. great news. great news. fantastic news for everybody. since he rejoined us, he's been working, so
6:42 pm
this is what we value. his actions in the training sessions have been great, so it's finished. harry's going to with us. he is an option for tomorrow. going to with us. he is an option fortomorrow. like going to with us. he is an option for tomorrow. like i said, fantastic news for everybody. the spurs head coach speaking ahead of tomorrow's europa conference league match against pacos de ferreira. let's get more on the kane stays story from the athletic*s jack pitt—brooke, who has covered this extensively from the very start. hi there, jack. he was clearly agitating for a move. what has happened here? i agitating for a move. what has happened here?— agitating for a move. what has happened here? agitating for a move. what has ha ened here? ~ ., ., j, , happened here? i think today's news, which is harry — happened here? i think today's news, which is harry kane _ happened here? i think today's news, which is harry kane confirming - happened here? i think today's news, which is harry kane confirming he - which is harry kane confirming he will stay, was really the inevitable result of the balance of the situation about which was that there was never really an off will, i think, for this move to go through. clearly harry kane wants to go, but daniel levy always held the power because of harry kane's contract.
6:43 pm
daniel levy was adamant everything would not be sold and city never quite wanted city —— kane enough to make leaving think otherwise. 1st -- kane enough to make leaving think otherwise. harry kane and manchester city, they could not manage to convince daniel levy otherwise. he could not manage to convince daniel levy otherwise-— levy otherwise. he pointedly says social media _ levy otherwise. he pointedly says social media channels _ levy otherwise. he pointedly says social media channels he - levy otherwise. he pointedly says social media channels he is - levy otherwise. he pointedly says| social media channels he is staying the summer. does this open things up injanuary? the next rancher window? that is very good question. == that is very good question. -- transfer that is very good question. —— transfer window. that is very good question. -- transfer window. i _ that is very good question. -- transfer window. i would - that is very good question. -- transfer window. i would be i transfer window. i would be surprised — transfer window. i would be surprised if _ transfer window. i would be surprised if harry _ transfer window. i would be surprised if harry kane - transfer window. i would be| surprised if harry kane goes transfer window. i would be i surprised if harry kane goes in january, sibley because the best players don't go in the january window, it is more for clubs that are desperate. i would not be surprised to see him back on the market next summer, especially if he has a good season for tottenham and maybe more so if tottenham don't get into the champions league or back into the champions league or back into the champions league or back into the rope a leak. the big question is going to be, of course, who is in for kane next summer? who gets mbappe, who gets erling haaland, who gets lewandowski? that will decide who makes kane the edicts priority in 2022. min will decide who makes kane the edicts priority in 2022.— edicts priority in 2022. will this sour his relationship _ edicts priority in 2022. will this
