good evening to you. the met office haveissued good evening to you. the met office have issued their summer 2021 stats, and it has certainly been one of unusual contrast, with much of the north and the rest of the country seeing warmer, sunnier and drier than average conditions compared to the south and the east, which has actually been cooler, cloudier and wetter, and in fact scotland and northern ireland have seen one of their warmest summers on record. we have also had that contrast in the last few days and certainly today the best of the sunshine scotland and northern ireland, whereas further south we saw a lot of cloud, particularly across most of england and wales we hold onto that trend for the next few days. clearer skies across parts of scotland and northern ireland tonight, meaning another chilly one, temperatures down to low single digits in one or two spots but where we hold on to the cloud and the breeze, then ten to 13 celsius. we start tomorrow on a rather cloudy note from many of us, but again through the day, increasing sunshine for scotland, northern ireland, perhaps northern england too but for much of the rest of england and wales it was a rather

we've shown humility in the way we've prepared to work, the way we are prepared to defend as a team. and we know we've got layers that can create chances and play good football. but everything starts from that network, i think, and as you lose that as a team and you don't have that right, then you're vulnerable. so that's the starting point for us, we've got to make sure we are back to where we wear and not thinking, just because we've got to a final, everything willjust roll on and we canjust a final, everything willjust roll on and we can just walk out beat teams. —— walked out and beat teams. as always, on the first of september, football fans are left counting the players in and out — after the transfer deadline, trying to predict how the new signings will affect their clubs' season. and, despite the uncertainty of covid, it's been another very expensive window for the premier league — particularly compered with their european counterparts. ben croucher reports. in football, money talks louder than the coaches, the players, the fans,

the winner of the tie will reach the last 12 group phase. now onto the paralympics, where it's been another golden day for great britain. david smith won his third consecutive para title in the boccia to become the country's most successful athlete in the sport. but as our reporter in tokyo, rachel latham, told me earlier, smith didn't have it easy in the final. he was coming from behind and he had to show so much grit and determination, and hold his nerve to win that gold medal. he's a player at the paralympics. he has cerebral palsy so we had to keep control of his whole body. because bocce is about mind over matter, it's a thinking man's game. he had to
6:41 pm
control himself throughout to win the gold medal, and he was actually great britain's 30th gold medals here in the games in tokyo. it meant so much to david that he got quite emotional after the match and, in his interview, he even said that he hoped showing those emotions and how he played, he would inspire other athletes with the same disability as him to get involved in the sport of bocce. * , , ., bocce. he's been a wonderful information, _ bocce. he's been a wonderful information, and _ bocce. he's been a wonderful information, and that - bocce. he's been a wonderful i information, and that trademark bocce. he's been a wonderful - information, and that trademark dyed hair, i love it. he said it was the 30th goalfor gp — the hair, i love it. he said it was the 30th goal for gp — the only gold today for gb, wasn't it? but becky redfern, hersilver today for gb, wasn't it? but becky redfern, her silver must*ve felt like a gold? redfern, her silver must've felt like a gold?— like a gold? absolutely, after everything — like a gold? absolutely, after everything rebecca _ like a gold? absolutely, after everything rebecca redfern l like a gold? absolutely, after i everything rebecca redfern has like a gold? absolutely, after - everything rebecca redfern has been through, that meant everything to her. just to give you a bit of context, she won a silver medal in rio in 2016. she took the gold in the world championships in 2019, but last year she had a baby so she lost a lot of that stamina and fitness that she'd gained over the years. so
6:42 pm
she showed a really gutsy swim in the 100 metres breaststroke. she went out very hard, touched first at the 50 but couldn't hold on in the final metres, and arrival from germany out touched her, got the gold, and it was a silver to redfern — but she said she was still very proud of her achievements, especially after the past year. she's one of those athletes that if these games had gone on last year, she not been competing — but she took that advantage of having an extra year and was able to come here and win a silver medal. there was also a bronze for sammy kinghorn in the athletics. she went in the 100 metres — her second paralympic games, but herfirst metres — her second paralympic games, but her first paralympic medal. she said it made her think forward to paris in 2024, when she hopes to convert that bronze into a gold. there was also a bronze in the archery, it was victoria room or eat making her paralympic debut. she acquired her surgery after —— injury
