with all three points to go top. and england's women battle through the rain to beat new zealand in the second one day international. welcome along, thank you forjoining us. welcome along. good evening. thank you forjoining us. only one place to start — with a man widely regarded as one of the greatest goal—scorers there's ever been. jimmy greaves' death at the age of 81 has lead to tributes across football. we'll bring you some of them tonight. greaves was a man who scored 357 times in the english top flight, more than anyone in history. his former clubs tottenham, chelsea and west ham were all in action today. more on how they got on shortly. but first, our sports correspondent andy swiss looks back at the life of a man as a giant of the sport.

—— regarded as a giant of the sport. he was english football's ultimate goal machine. back to greaves, the chance of a shot! jimmy greaves once said that, for all his skill, scoring was hisjob — and it made him a superstar. greaves! oh, and a hat—trick for greaves! after starting at chelsea, greaves moved to ac milan in 1961 — but his european adventures soon turned sour, and he came home to tottenham hotspur — the club which would define his career. it wasn't just the goals, it was the staggering rate at which he scored them — 266 for spurs, 44 injust 57 games for england. he was a key player heading into the 1966 world cup. but early in the tournament, greaves was injured — and, although he recovered by the final, he was left out in favour of geoff hurst. a disappointment which proved hard to take. i couldn't force myself

to join the festivities, because i'd built... in my own mind, i had built myself up that i was going to be in the side and i was going to be one of the key people and, suddenly, it wasn't there. this is greaves! after retiring in 1971, greaves struggled to cope. alcoholism was followed by bankruptcy. but he battled back from both to reinvent his career. good afternoon. g'day! now, saint, what happened there? you were favourites to qualify... a relaxed raconteur, he was a tv natural, and saint and greavsie — alongside ian stjohn — was a hit with viewers. although the programme ended in the early �*90s, the affection for greaves certainly didn't, and in 2009, the man who famously missed out on the world cup final at last received a winner's medal. it was a fitting reward for one of football's most popular and prolific talents. rarely has the art of goal—scoring been made to look quite so easy.

tributes have been pouring in from all across football and beyond today. gary lineker followed in jimmy greaves' footsteps in representing tottenham and england before also taking up a career in broadcasting. for me, jimmy was one of my heroes as well. obviously growing up, watching him play, we didn't have the amount of games on television that we now do, but managed to see him play a few times. i also was fortunate enough to meet him on numerous occasions, and he was always affable and fun and hugely knowledgeable. he was a great personality, a wonderful footballer and a man with huge charisma and fun, and he'll be much missed. it was poignant that two ofjimmy greaves' former teams

were in action just hours after his death was announced. tributes were paid before kickoff at the tottenham hotspur stadium, with chelsea ultimately leaving with the three points that take them level at the top of the premier league. austin halewood reports. the fiercest of rivals, the oldest of adversaries, united in their appreciation for one man, jimmy greaves, a legend at both tottenham and chelsea, a timely meeting between the two clubs where he enjoyed the most distinguished days of his career. in a first—half with few clear—cut chances, chelsea had about the best of them. it fell to mason mount, like greaves, a product of the blues academy, but his usual composer on the ball this time deserted impulsive after the break, though, chelsea were a different team, more precision and more effective, tiago silva with the simplest of headers to put the blues ahead. eventually after they doubled

their lead, n'golo kante with a deflected shot, and for chelsea, seemingly everything going their way. and they could have scored more if it was not for the quick reactions of hugo lloris. silva again the man causing problems in the airfor tottenham. despite his best efforts, he could not keep this out from antonio rudiger. he tottenham fans brought to near silence in that second half, the team in blue are definitely the team to beat in london right now. austin halewood, bbc news. big win for chelsea. after nine years at tottenham, jimmy greaves played for a couple of seasons at west ham towards the end of his career. those inside the london stadium today paid their respects as the hammers welcomed manchester united. the game itself had no shortage of drama, with the visitors holding on for the win, as adam wild reports. fans at west ham, as they have been across football, united in honouring the great jimmy greaves.
