hello, thanks forjoining me. time to have a look at the weather for the week ahead, and the pictures behind me give the story away. it is going to be a very blustery week with bouts of heavy rain at times, too. now, this is thejet stream pattern, and it will be a powerfuljet stream, making a beeline for the uk, and it will be propelling areas of low pressure in our direction one after the other. there will be gaps between these areas of low pressure in the week
9:55 pm
ahead, but they won't be very big, so i think most days, we are going to get some rain. and midweek onwards, we could see some quite deep areas of low pressure — deep meaning there will be intense lows with very strong winds, gale for sure, i think, for parts of northern and western britain. on the satellite picture, you can already see a daisy—chain of weather developing here and one such area of low pressure approaching us early on sunday morning, giving a wet spell for many parts of the uk. all but the very far north here of scotland, i think, or northern mainland scotland and the northern isles, should be some sunshine during the course of sunday. but elsewhere, the rain will probably last for most of the day across the midlands, the south of the country. in fact, even as we go into the early hours of monday morning, it'll still be rainy in east anglia and just about the southeast as well. early monday morning, probably a little bit colder, as we're in between these weather systems in the slightly clearer air across the country. so, here's monday morning. the low pressure is out

in the north sea, but behind it, we've got quite a cold northerly wind, perhaps even some wintry showers across scotland, and it certainly will feel chilly on the north sea coasts. if you live there, you know it. it tends to feel pretty baltic. 6 degrees in newcastle on monday, 10 degrees in plymouth, so certainly better weather closer to the english channel. here's tuesday — more weather fronts heading our way, another low pressure out in the atlantic and some strong winds starting to develop at this stage as well, some large waves around some of these western coasts. but the rain won't last all day long. you can see these weather fronts, only sort of so wide, so by the time you get to the second half of the day, the chances are that there will be some sunshine before the next big low swings in. this really is a large one. the worst of the winds will be further north, so i think it's scotland, northern ireland, around the irish sea that'll be very blustery with frequent showers. but look at that — 15 degrees in london and east anglia — a certain possible given a bit of sunshine.
9:57 pm
you can see this large area of low pressure, two of them there, as it moves into the baltic as well. and here come, again, the westerly winds, those strong atlantic westerlies on thursday, blowing in the showers. you'll notice some white there — that's some wintriness across the scottish hills — but further south, it's always going to be a little bit milder with temperatures around 12 or so. now, this is thursday, friday, into saturday, so we keep seeing that pattern repeating itself. more low pressure*s being spawned by that powerful jet stream, and the jet stream happens because you have mild air to the south, cold air to the north. you get these ripples of warmerair, coolerair. the jet stream ripples itself, that in turn spawns up areas of low pressure, and then you get that really unsettled weather. so, that's exactly what's going to be happening, and even into next week, you'll probably see that pattern not really changing much. that's it, bye—bye.
