hello, this is bbc news. the headlines: in an exclusive interview with the bbc, conservative mp neil parish says he is resigning, after admitting he watched pornography in the house of commons. in the end, i could see that the furore and damage i was causing my family and my constituency and association just was not worth carrying on. police officers searching for 33—year—old katie kenyon, who went missing a week ago,

have found the body of a woman. in ukraine, officials say the eastern region of donbas is coming under heavy russian attack, and claim a missile strike has destroyed the runway of odesa airport. and norwich city have been relegated from the premier league, after a 2—0 defeat by aston villa. there'll be more on that and the rest of the sport, coming up in sportsday. now on bbc news, it's time for sportsday. hello and welcome to sportsday — i'm isaac fanin. manchester city are back to the top of the premier league with victory over leeds. england women win a fourth consecutive six nations title as they beat france 24—12 in bayonne.
7:32 pm
and we're hours away from the biggest women's boxing fight in history as katie taylor takes on amanda serrano in new york. we start in the premier league. the pressure was all on manchester city before their teatime matchup against leeds united as they were dropped into second spot early. but a comfortable 3—0 win did the trick. in a tense first half, rodri opened the scoring for city. nathan ake settled things for city showing the scoring insticts of a striker to smash home ruben dias* knockdown. then gabrieljesus made it six goals in four premier league games. the win sends them back to the top of the premier league.
7:33 pm
now liverpool had briefly made things awkward for city. newcastle and liverpool had been the league's two form sides since january. but it was the reds who came out on top at stjames park with liverpool getting a crucial*s 1—0 win that sent them top of the table for a few hours until city's win. patrick gearey has more. liverpool's quest for a quadruple offers no breaks — constant travelling and training, no time to slow down, no game to take easy. no tackle to pull out of. newcastle were not happy with that one but it started up the red machine, the parts moved, the spaces opened. incredible. inevitable. as liverpool celebrated, var checked a bad tackle. the ball was won and the goal was given. they will be figures of panic for liverpool suspected they were offside here but were relieved
7:34 pm
to get confirmation. it should have been more comfortable for them and there were many chances and strangely, mane missed. he usually scores subconsciously and with every passing liverpool opportunity it would become easier to believe in bad omens but their fears were ultimately irrational. newcastle only rarely threatened rarely. so liverpool keep winning as they have to do to maintain their title hopes — jurgen klopp was understandably plaesed to have secured all three points after the match. i saw a top—class game, to be honest. it was not onlyjob done, it was in extremely difficult circumstances playing this kind of football... i think it's really special, to be honest. and that's why i'm really, really happy. you want to win football games. in the best case scenario, you deserve to win them. and we did today, 100%.
7:35 pm
against a team in form, in their stadium, great atmosphere. that's really special and not onlyjob done. i think liverpool were probably not at their best today, but i don't think we were at our best either. and i think whenever you play these games you have to be. i thought we competed well, we fought for everything, but just missed that quality that could have got the goal. i don't think we hit our top levels individually, but we played right to the end. there are positives to take from it but we set our standards very high and i'm quite disappointed with the general performance. next week we will do much better. it's been a difficult day for norwich city. they've been relegated back to the championship after their 2—0 defeat to aston villa and other results. it was a tough return to villa park for canaries boss dean smith. goals from ollie watkins and danny ings confirmed what has been the inevitable for his side for quite a few weeks now. it's a record sixth relegation
7:36 pm
from the premier league. we will try all we can. that's what we have to do. it's a very difficult league to stay in. 125 million was spent here at villa to keep us up. in ourfirst season in the premier league. that is how tough this league is. but we had a terrible start, obviously. two points after ten games. it's difficult. but i can't question the attitude of the players. at least today they performed really well. we wish norwich well. they have got a good coach and a good manager. there is a lot of fight there. they made it difficult for us. and i'm sure norwich have employed the infinite big picture. they were already in a difficult position. he has done his best and i have no doubt that him and his staff will bounce back. another significant match at the bottom of the premier league
7:37 pm
at vicarage road — burnley overhauled a 1—0 deficit to beat watford 2—1. that leaves mike jackson's side five points clear of third bottom everton who play chelsea tomorow. ajames tarkowski own goal gave watford a first half lead. but two goals in the final ten minutes, first from jack cork and then the winner five minutes from time from josh brownhill gave burnley a much needed three points. watford all but relegated — 12 points adrift of safety with only 12 left to play for. yeah, we are delighted with the result obviously. the second half performance as well. the first half, we weren't where we needed to be. so we are a little bit disappointed coming to half—time, but we knew that with the crowd and if we stick with it, we got a bit more possession, we could get back into the game. but all credit goes to the group as well. they have been terrific. rough day for wolverhampton wanderers
7:38 pm
as they were beaen 3—0 at home by brighton. there were boos at full—time from the home supporters as their side have now lost three games on the bouce without scoring. macallister, trossard and bissouma all found the net for brighton as they move up to ninth. very proud of the players. attacked well, defended well, everything you need in a premier league game to take the points. we did. missed a penalty, which is not ideal for us. but apart from that, fantastic performance. crystal palace are up to 12th in the table, after coming from behind to win 2—1 at southampton, who slip below them to 15th. wilfried zaha was their hero, coming off the bench to score the winner in injury time. saints had taken the lead early on through an oriol romeu header, but eberechi eze equalised in the second half for palace before zaha struck in the 92nd minute.
7:39 pm
exactly in the side, 0k. and then lose this game, it is hard to take to be honest. we want to take this game to the future for ending up higher in the table. missing this quality to win these games. we played really well today. i think today we played with confidence, belief and controlled the game. we fight, we went for the win, and at the end we scored that goal, and i am happy for the players because we deserved that win. there was a wild one in the women's super league as manchester city moved into the top three after thrashing brighton 7—2. khadija shaw scored four times at the academy stadium in what was city's iith win in a row. craig templeton was watching.
7:40 pm
with champions league football on the line, they haven't been in the top three all season, a win would put them there. with ten games won in a row, city seems to be timing it right and wasted no time in scoring the opener. a great run. brighton were really struggling, and when shaw found space it was 2—0 afterjust two minutes. —— afterjust ii —— after just 11 minutes. city were notjust looking like scoring with every attack, they were scoring with every attack. caroline wear was the quickest to the rebound. it was 3—2 and it wasn't even half—time. city regrouped after the break, and shot was having one of those games. a hat—trick.
7:41 pm
she wasn't done there, as city leapt even further in front. 5-2. alex greenwood added another. then a magnificent seven. and city into third. something worth smiling about. craig templeton, bbc news. in the scottish premiership, celtic and rangers meet in the old firm derby tomorrow with the weekend's remaining fixtures all taking place today. there were 1—0 wins for aberdeen and livingston in the relegation group while stjohnstone are perilously close to a relegation playoff after they were beaten 1—0 by st mirren. in the championship section, dundee united beat motherwell i—o. it was goalless at hearts. it was the penultimate weekend of the championship season and bournemouth have taken a big step towards automatic promotion alongside fulham with a 3—0 win at blackburn. elsewhere, relegated barnsley lost

7:43 pm
for automatic promotion, mk dons, will go into the play—offs, despite winning 5—0 at plymouth argyle, with scott twine scoring four of the goals. it means argyle, who had a man sent off, slip to seventh place and wycombe wanderers take the last play—off spot at their expense. so wigan athletic are promoted as champions, along with rotherham. mk dons, sheffield wednesday, sunderland and wycombe are the four teams who'll contest the play—offs with plymouth argyle missing out. at the other end of the table, fleetwood and morecambe stay up on the final day, and gillingham, doncaster and wimbledon willjoin crewe alexandra in dropping to league two next season. in spain, real madrid won the league with a thumping 4—0 win against espanyol. they've sealed the title with almost a month of the season remaining. their triumph capped a remarkable milestone for carlo ancelotti, with the italian becoming the first manager to capture titles in each

of europe's top five leagues — england, spain, germany, italy and france. needing just one point to guarantee the title, madrid clinched their 35th league crown in style. one of football's highest profile agents, mino raiola, has died. raiola was involved in some of the biggest deals in the game and he represented players including paul pogba, erling haaland and zlatan ibrahimovic. he was 5a. england are celebrating their fourth women's six nations title in a row, that's after a 24—12 victory in their winner takes all grand slam decider in france. the result confirms england's status as firm favourites for the world cup in new zealand later this year. jo currie reports. when you're ranked number one in the world and have a grand slam in your sights, you know you have a target on your back. with france themselves eyeing the trophy, this is always going to be a battle. and it was the home side who started the quicker as they spent no time at all going over
7:45 pm
between the sticks. that was probably the early warning sign england needed as they hit back almost immediately. hard to see but that's sarah burn under there, touching down to bring england level. minutes later, the england pack once again proving its power, another huge drive and this time abbie ward doing just enough to get it down. england were finding their feet and a confidence notching up one more try courtesy of sarah burn again to go in at the break with a healthy lead. if the first half was explosive, the second half took some time to get going. and when it did it was france who struck, buoyed by the baying bayonne crowd they close the gap to give themselves a chance. england were too strong, too experienced and simply too good. they saw out the rest of the match with ease to claim an impressive win. that's their 23rd in a row and their fourth consecutive six nations title. these players will enjoy the celebrations but with the world cup nowjust a few months away, they will know the most important thing going forward is keeping this momentum going.
7:46 pm
jo currie with that report and she got more reaction to england's victory in france after the match. we have had the trophy left, the fireworks, and england have been again crowned women's six nations champions. how dominating from an england point of view was that? if you look at their set piece, that is where they really came alive and thatis where they really came alive and that is probable the difference today. france were there or thereabouts, but too many errors, basic things that went against them. england were relentless for 80 minutes. we know how good england have been for the last few years. france are ranked third. how big is that gap? france are ranked third. how big is that aa-7 . . france are ranked third. how big is thatua? ., . france are ranked third. how big is that .a.7 ., . ., that gap? france will look back and see they had _ that gap? france will look back and see they had plenty _ that gap? france will look back and see they had plenty of _ that gap? france will look back and | see they had plenty of opportunities but they missed them. you have to take those opportunities. it will be painful watching for them. the gap isn't that big, but there are so many opportunities that they left out there, but england are another force, another level today. you out there, but england are another force, another level today. force, another leveltoday. you have -la ed force, another leveltoday. you have played with — force, another leveltoday. you have played with a — force, another leveltoday. you have played with a lot _ force, another leveltoday. you have played with a lot of _ force, another leveltoday. you have played with a lot of these _ force, another leveltoday. you have

consecutive year. but still things to work on! a bit of an anticlimax for wales. their six nations campaign ended with a narrow 10—8 defeat to italy in cardiff. the italians took advantage of two first—half yellow cards which allowed scrum—half sara barattin to score. wales looked to have won it after late keira bevan went over with five minutes left. but michela sillari won it with a last—minute penalty. wales still celebrate their best tournament finish in 13 years though, having secured third place. not long to go now until the biggest fight in women's boxing history. ireland's katie taylor takes on puerto rico's amanda seranno for the title of the undisputed lightweight champion. our boxing reporter, ade adedoyin, is in new york at madison square garden and spoke to me earlier.

and finally it's back to football. in the 1930s, they arrived in southampton on a boat carrying 4,000 child refugees fleeing the spanish civil war. little did they know, but for two teenage boys, the tragedy of war would set them on their way to a career as professional footballers — first at southampton and later in spain with the likes of athletic club bilbao and real madrid. lewis coombes has the remarkable story of the children of 37. behind these happy pictures i of the spanish refugee children arriving in southampton lies the grim tragedy of nearly. a year of civil war. 4,000 basque children separated from theirfamilies. sent to southampton as german and italian forces bombed their homes at the invitation of general franco. they would become as the children of war. these children have found safety.
7:54 pm
among the children, was sabino baranaga and raimundo lezama, both 1a at the time. after the camp, where did the children go next? the children were sent to colonies. this man was part of the child basque association. this is now a block of flats, but it was the sight of nazareth house, which was an orphanage. no coincidence. it's about half a mile. sabino baranaga and raimundo lezama found solace in football, and it was not long until they were integrated into saints' youth system. the gates opened and the players were training under the manager tom parker. before you knew it, they had been reserves, and one was a goalkeeper, the other was a centre forward to scored lots of goals.
7:55 pm
sabino baranaga caught the eye, scoring before returning to the basque country at the end of the spanish civil war. but a football star had been born. sabino went on to score nearly 100 goals for real madrid, including the very first at the famous stadium. a fact his family continue to be proud of. translation: sabino loved england. it is where he was taught to play football. everything would have been completely different. he may not have survived. and if he had stayed in spain, he wouldn't have been able to concentrate on his football as he would have had to look after his family. and it was the fact that someone saw him at southampton and recommended him to real madrid that his life changed again. raimundo lezama played in goal

for saints on three occasions before joining athletic club. he played a key role in winning the spanish cup final against sabino's madrid side, just three years after they had left the southampton orphanage. more than a dozen young boys who arrived in 1937 went on to play football professionally, and achievement is now remembered in an exhibition at athletic club's stadium that ensures that the children of 37 continues to be told. while in southampton, a plaque marks the part of the city played in the lives of the children of war. all the more important with the recent refugee crisis and war is going on at the moment to remember how children and how refugees in general can be perceived, and the role that football can play in that as well. sabino baranaga and raimundo lezama proving that we all have a chance to write our own history, no matter what party
