i'm sure leigh with more on the election results. only a handful of results have been declared so far in scotland. their early indications that labour could be the conservatives into second place without that would be the first time labour has been in second place for six years. in glasgow the snp has emerged as the largest party with 37 seats, just the logic, it bit labour to the post, labour is 36 the snp is also the party with a larger share of first preference goat would not vote against scotland. using a proportional voting system. our correspondent spoke to the snp leader, scotland's first minister nicola sturgeon started by giving her reaction to the voting. weill. her reaction to the voting. well, i'm her reaction to the voting. well, im thrilled _ her reaction to the voting. well, i'm thrilled at _ her reaction to the voting. well, i'm thrilled at the _ her reaction to the voting. well, i'm thrilled at the snp _ her reaction to the voting. well, i'm thrilled at the snp result. it| i'm thrilled at the snp result. it is a quite incredible outcome for that we are not only won the election, our eight consecutive election, our eight consecutive election since i've been leader of the snp but we wanted overwhelmingly. we can end up 12 to

13 percentage dig point ahead of our nearest rival. we've increased our share of bow, the number of counsellors we've won and i think were going to be the largest county going into the election. all of that would be a fantastic result for any party in any circumstance but the snp has been a government in scotland now for 15 years. this results as the people across scotland while they absolutely recognise that the snp is not perfect, no party or government is, they trust the snp and f8 to lead they trust the snp and f8 to lead the country forward in national and crucially local level. in terms of the other party, labour, the tories clearly found out for a second place, some way behind the snp, labour will be pleased at second place again. i think it's more down to the collapse of the tory vote than any genuine progress on the part of labor. and for the scottish tories and ross, an absolutely devastating result and one that i sense the clearest possible message here in scotland but also to boris

johnson was minister how much do you think the national issues such as a constitutional debate in scotland are coming into play even though these are about councils making decisions on local councils? i don't get me to tell anybody anything they don't already know. a lot of people in scotland support independence and want scotland to be an independent country. the desperation of our opponents to use that as somehow in attempt to delegitimize votes and elections for the snp i think is really desperate. the facts of the matter is, people vote for a whole variety of reasons, yesterday when i spent the day of my old constituency talking to hundreds of people over the course of the day most people go into polling stations to vote snp, yes they'll probably vote yes on an independence referendum but the things he was talking to be about were the fact that they thought the snb had led the country well through covid. the fact they think the snp is a right party to lead the national health service

notwithstanding the challenges, the fact they trust the snp and glascow to leave the city forward. people are voting for the snp because they judge our record, they recognise we get things wrong but theyjudge where the best party to take scotland forward nationally and locally and crucially, they're judging her opponents and coming to the conclusion they simply don't have the leadership, the ideas, the policies or the values to take scotland in the right direction. nicola sturgeon for that we will be joining election results at the top of the hour. will have a first look at what the papers will be bringing aaron. to stay with us for that. now it's time for a look at the weather. here is thomsen. here is thomsen. good evening. the earlier rain across northern and western parts of the uk should largely fizzle out through the evening and overnight, and that means that the weekend should be generally dry, sunny spells, just a few showers

in the forecast, i think, tomorrow. so, here's the latest satellite picture, as the weather front crosses the country and moves southwards, here it is very early in the morning, and then i think by the middle of the day, it should be out of the picture, as high pressure builds in. so, through the early hours, a few showers there in east anglia and the southeast. elsewhere across the country, it's a case of clearing skies and our temperatures around seven o'clock in the morning on saturday around 9 celsius in belfast, seven celsius in glasgow, 13 degrees in london with that cloud and a few showers. now, the forecast indicates a fair bit of cloud across east anglia and the southeast in the morning. it could hang around through the afternoon as well, could be some showers, showers also could develop from southern parts of wales across the pen pennines, just about into the midlands. i think the best of the sunshine will be out towards the west across wales, southwestern parts of england, the higher temperatures here up to around 19 degrees or so. all in all, i think saturday is going to be a mostly fine day.

here's sunday, high pressure still in charge, butjust starting to drift out towards the north sea. and this low pressure makes inroads. so, on sunday, i think increasing amounts of cloud out towards the northwest. i think more than anything, it's hazy skies. elsewhere, scattered fairweather clouds with light winds, temperatures inland up up to around 18—19 degrees, on the north sea coast, a bit fresher there, closer to 14 degrees. now, here's monday. that weather front really does push in across northern ireland and into scotland, so some wet and breezy weather at times here. but across the midlands, east anglia and the southeast, it's going to be a fine monday with sunshine and quite warm too. given some sunshine, temperatures could get up to around 21 degrees. now, here's the outlook for next week. now, you will notice that the breeze is mostly coming off the atlantic, so it's not going to be all that warm. still temperatures probably in the high teens, just about 20 degrees across the south, but the thinking is that elsewhere across the country, it will be a good deal cooler

good evening, and welcome back to our special bbc election coverage. most of the results are in. but there are still some crucial ones to come. labour have won the local elections in england. it has taken key councils like westminster, wandsworth and southampton. although sir kier starmer*s celebrations were rather marred when durham police announced it would — after all — investigate whether he broke lockdown rules last year. borisjohnson admitted his party had a *tough night* — losing overall control of councils like west 0xfordshire and worcester. and the losses really begun to mount during the day. the greens are doing very well. and sir ed davey*s liberal democrats have gained more seats than any other party in england.
