ifi if i can have the attorneys approach for a moment. they just cut the sound feed theyjust cut the sound feed there in the courtroom as some discussions are taking place, if you're just joining us, we are awaiting moments away the verdict in the depp—heard defamation case democrat child that's been going on for six weeks, thejury has that's been going on for six weeks, the jury has reached a decision and we are waiting to hear that in this courtroom in virginia in the us any moment now. all right, ladies enjoyment of the

jury, what i need is to give the forms back to you. when you fine for a defamatory statement, one or more, you need to fill out the comments of tory damages, it has to be at least $1 and up to whatever you feel the damages should be. for punitive damages, you can put zero orfill that out there as well, but i need those filled out. if i can have you retire back to the deliberation room and do that for me. so we will be in recess until we hear back from them, don't go too far. thank you. in hear back from them, don't go too far. thank you.— hear back from them, don't go too far. thank you. in the words of the “udue far. thank you. in the words of the

judge there. _ far. thank you. in the words of the judge there, "don't _ far. thank you. in the words of the judge there, "don't go _ far. thank you. in the words of the judge there, "don't go too - far. thank you. in the words of the judge there, "don't go too far." i judge there, "don't go too far." this whole trial has been televised and, while they've injected just a moment's more drama and suspense to these proceedings, thejury receiving some instructions from the judge there to follow those instructions. so we still wait for the verdict. and we won't be the only people around the world watching these proceedings, many, many people are. let's speak to our correspondent greg mckenzie, who is one of those watching. greg, the global attention on this, regardless of what you think of it, has been asked ordinary. it of what you think of it, has been asked ordinary.— asked ordinary. it has indeed, a hollywood _ asked ordinary. it has indeed, a hollywood superstar _ asked ordinary. it has indeed, a hollywood superstar in - asked ordinary. it has indeed, a hollywood superstar in johnny l asked ordinary. it has indeed, a - hollywood superstar in johnny depp hollywood superstar injohnny depp and his former wife, amber heard. now the tension, billions of people watching on tiktok, some say a jury by tiktok, the hashtag has had billions of hits on that platform,
8:05 pm
whereas the hashtag supporting amber heard, not so many. now on the flip side, both have received countless abuse threats, death threats, it's got quite serious in in terms of the hate towards both of them on both sides. so a six trial almost over, as you heard there, thejudge informing thejury to as you heard there, thejudge informing the jury to decide how much in damages because they haven't written that in their forms. so that is telling, we don't know what side it'll go, or if it will even go either side, it'll go, or if it will even go eitherside, it it'll go, or if it will even go either side, it could be dismissed. that will come back in the next few minutes. in terms of international attention, the court case was filmed every day, televised around the world, and i think a lot of people just said some days, they couldn't get enough of it. journalistically, factually, this is really a case about both accusing each other of ruining their careers, and ultimately it's played out in court and hearing details about that
8:06 pm
relationship, that marriage that ended and who assaulted who, who abused who, and vice versa. so a very public case and many people coming to the defence of both of them over the last few weeks in court, most famously kate moss testified from her property in gloucester, testifying via video link to the claims that amber heard's team suggested johnny depp had pushed kate moss down the steps many years ago down democrat in the caribbean, she said it was not the case, she slipped, johnny depp came to the rescue, they made the story up to the rescue, they made the story up that he pushed her down the stairs. so testimony like that from all over the country, really, all overthe country, really, in support ofjohnny depp. so time will only tell in the next few minutes as to when the judge makes his decision

—— the decision in this case. we -- the decision in this case. we will hear _ -- the decision in this case. we will hear from _ —— the decision in this case. we will hear from the jury injust —— the decision in this case. we will hear from the jury in just a few minutes, as we just heard the judge saying to everyone in the courtroom, "don't go too far." interestingly she also said right at the beginning that this is a court of law, serious proceedings, this isn't a time for big reactions, and she preempted any reactions, emotional or otherwise, to what would be said in court. and it's a reminder of that balance — of course this is literally hollywood, these are hollywood stars, but actually this is also real life, and really painful and difficult tales of marriage in a picture painted of a pretty dysfunctional relationship at times, and actually some really sobering details we've heard over the last six weeks. we sobering details we've heard over the last six weeks.— sobering details we've heard over the last six weeks. we did indeed, details about _ the last six weeks. we did indeed, details about claims _ the last six weeks. we did indeed, details about claims that - the last six weeks. we did indeed,

details about claims that amber i details about claims that amber heard had attacked johnny depp in australia whilst he was filming parts of the caribbean, only for a surgeon to come into court to say thatjohnny depp's finger wasn't sliced were injured in any way, and comments about him writing and blood on a wall after that incident — details that were quite disturbing at times, some would say, but ultimately what looking and not the case, some would say it was a bit of a toxic relationship, and now it's being played out to the public to get an insight into the lives of hollywood a listers, which is something you don't often get privy to, but in this case it's not public. a member this is in the first time forjohnny depp, he was in the uk to defend a case which he lost —— isn't the first time. so for
8:09 pm
both of them, it's really about their reputations and the damage, one would say, but ultimately both their legal councils have said that they both would wish this case to be over so that they can move on with their lives. now as forjohnny depp, he had been seen in the uk as of yesterday performing on stage at the royal albert hall with a music band, jeff beck, the british guitarist, he was performing in sheffield and at the royal albert hall kierland desk here in london. so we believe he is watching this on hold in the uk, as for amber heard we are sure she's still stateside as the result unfold. i still stateside as the result unfold. ., , ., ., , still stateside as the result unfold. ., , ., , , ,, unfold. i saw that photo johnny depp on staae, unfold. i saw that photo johnny depp on stage. just _ unfold. i saw that photo johnny depp on stage, just added _ unfold. i saw that photo johnny depp on stage, just added yet _ unfold. i saw that photo johnny depp on stage, just added yet another - on stage, just added yet another slightly surreal turn to this court case, and we did see amber heard in courtjust a few moments ago. thanks for much for that. i want to talk now to sean mandel, los

discovery. out already come out through discovery-— out already come out through discove . * , . , h, discovery. it's an interesting point that we will _ discovery. it's an interesting point that we will lead _ discovery. it's an interesting point that we will lead onto _ discovery. it's an interesting point that we will lead onto now, - discovery. it's an interesting point l that we will lead onto now, because we are awaiting these verdicts, but effectively we can already make an assessment of the lasting impact of this trial, because we now know so many allegations about behaviour in this marriage. where do you think this marriage. where do you think this case leavesjohnny depp and amber heard? it this case leaves johnny depp and amber heard?— this case leaves johnny depp and amber heard? . _ ., , , , , amber heard? it leaves johnny depp in a stronger— amber heard? it leaves johnny depp in a stronger position _ amber heard? it leaves johnny depp in a stronger position in _ amber heard? it leaves johnny depp in a stronger position in terms - amber heard? it leaves johnny depp in a stronger position in terms of - in a stronger position in terms of public image and pr then he was in prior to this trial because, as one of your reporters mentioned, there has been a tremendous amount of support for him on social media. now we could parse why that is and look into the motive or who might be behind that, if anyone is at all behind that, if anyone is at all behind that, if anyone is at all behind that, but he has regained the level of public support, or at least had his supporters come out more
8:13 pm
publicly than they had previously before this trial. so he, i think in the court of public opinion, is coming out ahead. as for amber heard, i do think she so far has come out worse for the wear, and that has to do with a combination of factors in terms of the case that her lawyers, her attorneys put forward, and alsojust her lawyers, her attorneys put forward, and also just how she's been treated on social media — and she herself addressed that in her rebuttal testimony that she gave just at the end of last week. the question will be, will either of them be able to have anything like them be able to have anything like the career they had before, or career at all, will they be able to work in tv or film, or sponsored promotions for products such as l'0real, which amber heard had a contract with prior to all this drama in the public eye. that is very much unknown and i do believe
8:14 pm
that the result of this verdict will have a huge implication for that. fascinating stuff, thanks so much for talking us through that. we may well come back to speak to you once well come back to speak to you once we have a verdict. we are watching these aerial images live from virginia, emphasising really the centre of attention for so many people's lives and attention over the last six weeks— and that verdict about to be reached will be significant and reverberate around the globe, many column inches will be written about what these verdicts are. i think we can go back to our correspondent there who's been following the case. whilst we wait now for the verdicts, just before i ask you about the last six weeks, i just wanted to repeat what we heard
8:15 pm
there from the judge. in the depp—heard defamation case, she sends thejury back depp—heard defamation case, she sends the jury back to add damage amounts on the verdict forms. so a bit of admin from the judge — when we came in, we were exciting it to be the big moment, but thejudge sent them back out to add specific amounts of dollar amounts on the verdict form, which suggests, according to our last guest there, that some decision has been reached or that there will be damages. but of course there is another option that $0 is added on and maybe we are barking up the wrong tree here. just wanted to repeat that line, butjust talk us through what it's been like from your position over the last six weeks. , ., from your position over the last six weeks. , . . , from your position over the last six weeks. , . .,, , from your position over the last six weeks. , . , ., weeks. this trial has 'ust - to say it's had weeks. this trial has 'ust - to say

us had much weeks. this trial hasjust - to say it's had public industry _ weeks. this trial hasjust - to say it's had public industry democrat| it's had public industry democrat interest is a huge understatement. outside the courthouse, there is a huge crowd forming. it was only a short while ago when we knew that it was coming today that was really quiet, everyone sprung into action, everyone has given 90 minutes to get themselves together, but there are nowjohnny depp fans arriving here — it's always been predominately johnny depp fans outside the courthouse. i spoke to one fan is 19 years old, she lives around here and said to me this was a once—in—a—lifetime opportunity to be here and seejohnny depp — but johnny depp isn't here, it appears that he is in newcastle in the uk, but amber heard is here inside the court, with her team waiting for that verdict. johnny depp's legal team is here. back to that 19—year—old, i asked team is here. back to that 19—year—old, iasked her what team is here. back to that 19—year—old, i asked her what was so fascinating about the case, and she said that she was a johnny depp fan, she enjoys his movies and she felt it was important to be here. and
8:17 pm
that's kind of a lot of stuff the otherjohnny depp fans have been saying here. in terms of amber heard fans, honestly there's not been that many careful sub usually you can spot them because there's about three or four of them, and spot them because there's about three orfour of them, and it spot them because there's about three or four of them, and it tends to be one particular person that all the media talk to because it often seems to be the only person here. i think i can tell you a lot about which way this has been going publicly. you hear legal experts saying this is a tale of two trials, the one inside the courthouse and the one inside the courthouse and the one inside the courthouse and the one outside in the public domain. there are no crowds gathering and people have their mobile phones up, it's all being televised out of court so they are all waiting for that verdict. we've been chatting a _ all waiting for that verdict. we've been chatting a while _ all waiting for that verdict. we've been chatting a while now- all waiting for that verdict. we've been chatting a while now and i l been chatting a while now and i realise we haven't really explained who johnny realise we haven't really explained whojohnny depp and amber heard are. now that might seem obvious to lots of people, but of course there will be lots of people around the world who don't take a great deal of
