there's been some controversy about the organisers' decision to ban players from russia and belarus, because of the invasion of ukraine. let's cross to sw19 and our sports news correspondent, laura scott. hi, laura. hi,jane. wimbledon hi, laura. hi, jane. wimbledon is backin hi, laura. hi, jane. wimbledon is back in full force this year. many fans that means the return of one of the highlights of the championships, the highlights of the championships, the queue, where they can camp overnight to get their hands on tickets to one of the main chords. there is a stellar line—up of players this year, including serena williams and rafael nadal. there is no world number one, daniil medvedev, because of the ban on russian and belarusian players, and no ranking points either. instead, the top seed in the men's draw will be novak djokovic, who will shortly be novak djokovic, who will shortly be opening centre coordinates its centenary year. he is the defending champion. he has not been beaten

here since 2017. following him will be last year's overnight sensation emma raducanu, who went on to win the us open. she is optimistic about her chances, despite her recent injury. but it won't be easy today. she has got a very good first round opponent. and then andy murray is last on the centre court. nine british players in action today. laura, thank you. that takes asunder a look at the weather with susan powell. we saw the rain messing with the cricket. i'd say odds—on we will see the covers at wimbledon within the next hour. the showers are merging their way across central england at their way across central england at the moment. not great news for haymakers. the grass still standing nicely behind in herefordshire. showers clearing eastwards in the last error. but through this week that the challenge of those showers sweeping their way through is going to stay with us. you can see a band

of them here on the radar. some of them are turning to be quite heavy and thundery and it is quite a marked line that will be heading across to south—west 19. i would like to stress that even though it is a showery day, when the sun comes out it is particularly strong. we are at that point injune where we see some of the highest uv levels across the uk. very high levels towards the far south—east and south—west this afternoon. if you are out, it's an umbrella and some greenjob really. heavier, thundery showers across eastern england this evening. clearing overnight. cool in central andsee —— eastern areas. towards the west, cloud and rain gathering by the other night. some of that rain through the day for northern ireland is going to be quite persistent. also across western scotland. definitely a slowerjob for us to take that reading east birds later in the day on tuesday. in terms of temperatures, i think we are going to see fairly similar values to

today. as the day plays out on tuesday, with the low to the west of the uk, is a pretty strong winds as well. combine that with the heavy rain and it will emphasise the cool feel. winds of a0 mph along some of the irish sea coast. northern ireland becomes brighter in the afternoon but the afternoon but they could be thunderstorms. there is also some showers indicating they could roam across southern england and towards the south—east. perhaps and towards the south—east. perhaps a shade warmer across east anglia this afternoon, tomorrow afternoon, but toward the west are still cool with the cloud and rain. the wimbledon outlook for tomorrow's show is the decreased chance of showers, but i wouldn't rule it entirely the possibility of seeing the odd spot of rain. but if anything, it is wednesday pose the biggest challenge. still no pressure to the north of the uk, where it will sit through the course of the week, throwing in bands of showers. wednesday more widespread across the uk. there will be some brighter

spells in the east. it will be a little warmer. with lighter winds where we get the showers, they little warmer. with lighter winds where we get the showers, they could drag their heels. susan, thank you. that's all from the bbc news at 0ne, so it's goodbye from me, good afternoon, it's 1.30pm and here's your latest sports news. wimbledon has begun but the start on the outside courts has been interrupted by rain. chetan pathak is at the all england club for us. novak the all england club for us. djokovic is opening up centre novak djokovic is opening up on centre court for us, isn't he? he is, and the _ centre court for us, isn't he? he: is, and the sun has come out especially for him. we had a rain hampering play here early but it's all under way on these beautiful outside courts as you can see and on

centre court at the moment we can take you there now, celebrating its 100th yearjust seeing who will serve first at the moment as this is one of the handful of asian players in the top ten in the world. 2a years old and has won a title before and reach the semifinals of eastbourne last year and one the south korea master singer but novak djokovic is the clear favourites and is looking for 21 grand slams, his seventh wimbledon title and you wouldn't bet against him, potentially with the covid situation, this could be his last grand slam until the french open next year. he really wants to narrow the gap to rafael nadal who is on 22 grand slams. this gets under way shortly and let me tell you what's happening in terms of the british players because we are spoilt for choice and the british number one

cameron norrie who sneaked into the top ten earlier this year is just out of it at the moment and is taking on a player more suited to playing on clay but he beat roger federer last year and it should be all right for norrie, steam—rolling through the first set and it's a little tighter in the second set at the moment and currently two games all and norrie hoping to reach the second week of a grand slam for the first time in his career and let me tell you aboutjodie burrage on court number 18 she is taking on the ukrainian player who had quite a lot of her not feeling comfortable about playing russian and belarusian players and then coming to wimbledon. she took the first set 6-2 wimbledon. she took the first set 6—2 and jodie burrage has had a good time of it and a big result on grass last week one of the top ten seeds and she has her work cut out if she is to fight back. we and she has her work cut out if she

he can get the job done against james duckworth. he has had his surgery issues as well, nine surgeries, duckworth and not resurfacing like andy murray but he has had his fitness challenges not a great year. the centre court fans on henman hill will be hoping to see emma raducanu and andy murray through but whether that happens entirely depends on their fitness. so much happening here let's hope the rain stays away. rain has delayed england's push for victory on the fifth and final day of the third and final test in headingley against new zealand. the players took an early lunch and have just gone out. england resumed the day on 183—2 needing another 113 for victory with both 0llie pope and joe root hitting unbeaten half centuries yesterday.

but so far, no arrests have been made, and that's a great concern for people in the local community. this is the third murder within five years while i've been working in the local area, and this one is quite brutal, it was a young lady. but people don't really feel safe in this location as much as they used to. if i was an elderly person or if i was a female, especially in the winter months walking through this road, you could be at risk. well, police say they understand this is a very distressing incident, particularly for local women. they are urging the local community to be alert but not alarmed. they say there will be a significant number of police likely to be in this area over the next few days. a new service has been launched in bradford to support male victims of domestic abuse. 0ne victim has told the bbc he wouldn't be alive today without the help he's received from it. the charity mankind says

it's a growing problem across the country, with many men suffering in silence. gaggan sabherwal reports. domestic abuse is often perceived to be a man abusing a woman, but physical, emotional and financial abuse towards men by women is very much a real issue, with many victims suffering in silence at the hands of the abuser. nobody really knew the true extent of what was going on. it was only afterwards when we separated that i was comfortable to disclose some of what i had experience. 30—year—old hussain, not his real name, is one of thousands of men in the uk who are or have been a victim male domestic abuse. i was in a seven—year relationship with my former partner. we got married, the initial period was quite quite normal. but once things had settled down, she began to change. if things didn't happen the way she wanted them to happen, then she would become quite aggressive.
