hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. with me are sienna rodgers, senior writer at the house magazine, and kate maltby, who's a columnist for the i newspaper. tomorrow's front pages, starting with... "penny's in heaven," the metro front page reports on the conservative leadership contest and candidate penny mordaunt*s success today pushing further ahead after round two of voting. but the i newspaper's front strikes a different tone, saying tory rivals are turning on mordaunt ahead of the upcoming tv debates that could change the course of the contest. the telegraph leads on more manoeuvres by liz truss supporter lord frost, who has today urged candidate kemi badenoch to stand down and back the foreign secretary. the times reports on attorney general suella braverman, who today

lost in the round of voting and has since said she will be backing liz truss. the mirror leads on the heatwave and how nhs doctors fear that there could be a surge in heat—related illness and deaths as temperatures may reach highs of a0 degrees. and last week, the ft reports on the airline emirates* criticism of heathrow and their decision to cap passenger flights as "armageddon". emirates say they would ignore the move in growing backlash against the airport. so, let's begin. good evening to both of you. if you for agreeing to come on and let's start with the politics and the front page of the metro. any's in heaven, not a bad headline though she has not won anything yet and is a long way from anything like that.

can you start us off and kick us off on where we are with the tory leadership race?— leadership race? yes, this is i was a featuring on _ leadership race? yes, this is i was a featuring on most _ leadership race? yes, this is i was a featuring on most of _ leadership race? yes, this is i was a featuring on most of the - leadership race? yes, this is i was a featuring on most of the front i a featuring on most of the front pages, is the big story, everyone and westminster is watching and seeing what happens in this kind of odd process where people are knocked out at each round and this is just a at the moment. it is not going out membership yet or anything, and then as mps get knocked out as contenders get knocked out, their votes to get redistributed and people start supporting the front runners. the people kind of changing their votes each time, so at the moment it looks like penny mordaunt is doing very well. so rishi sunak is actually ahead and you probably would not know it from most of the front pages as they all talk about penny mordaunt but rishi sunak has the most votes at the moment and he had his slick launch characteristically. penny mordaunt really have the excitement around here as she has
10:36 pm
shown today the biggest increase in votes and there is a real feeling that actually she will be best placed to win a general election so looking ahead to who could beat keir starmer, who has qualities that keir starmer, who has qualities that keir starmer might find difficult to oppose people think penny mordaunt is that person at the moment. so suella braverman, if you mention to come if you get knocked out today so people are not at the moment taking themselves out of the race. they are just being knocked out. so we have got the next few days of debates we are going to have with the conservative home doing hustings and channel for an sky on tuesday for various debates and i think those performances could really change this race because so far it's massively fluctuated and people seem to be quite ready to be convinced by various people. and if someone puts in a their performance, i think they

out convincing programmes but liz truss has the depth of experience in energy and ideas and that should put her in the lead. basically kemi badenoch is a very... talking about penny mordaunt being a fresh face people out in the country and maybe even people in westminster even though she's been preparing this leadership bid for a long time, but kemi badenoch is even less will not people really won't have a clue who she is even though i think some people have been excited by her campaign. she is standing on a very similar platform to suella braverman so that was a bit of surprise that... perhaps not a surprise but suella braverman could have backed kemi badenoch but she did not, she has backed liz truss but the pressure is on to unite behind liz truss. . ~ pressure is on to unite behind liz truss. ., ~' , ., , . pressure is on to unite behind liz truss. ., ,, , ., , . ., ., truss. thank you very much for that and it was quite _ truss. thank you very much for that and it was quite a _ truss. thank you very much for that and it was quite a lot of _ truss. thank you very much for that and it was quite a lot of detail- truss. thank you very much for that and it was quite a lot of detail and l and it was quite a lot of detail and really interesting because that is the kind of elements and splits

10:45 pm
so i'm going to whisk us onto the front page of the ft and we will go to the top story there on the top of the page, burning issue, oilfalls below invasion level, referring to the invasion of ukraine. this is important because oil tells us so much for the state of the economy around the world generally as well. yes, so obviously the framing of the story is probably a little different to how we usually see papers that are not the ft as this kind of story being framed because usually tourists candidates to briefly revisit politics there will be talking about fuel prices and cutting vat in that sort of thing, the story says oil prices fell more than 5% yesterday and wiping off all the gains made since russia invaded ukraine less than five months ago. so there is only a little bit of the story on this front page but it's kind of referring to the fact that it points to an economic slowdown
