now, a really lovely story to bring you. 12 years ago micky yule woke up from a coma in birmingham, having stepped on an ied while serving as a soldier in afghanistan. last night, he won a bronze medal for scotland in the men's heavyweight bench press final, having come fourth at the last two commonwealth games. here he tells mike bushell, how he used sport to overcome that dark time. you know, i didn't even really know what was going on back then. i know i wanted to get back into sport because i was a sporting person, and i was looking in the mirror and seeing a guy that was cut in half. i wasn't a soldier that i was ten days before, two weeks before. my legs had been flipped around and i needed to try and find a different direction that i could take this, because i didn't want to feel surgeries, trying to learn how to walk again — i would have to learn to walk on metal legs, everything... i used sport as a way to get out of

that dark place. some people say it saves your life, but it takes you away from those bad times. this incredible journey, as you said, the power of sport epitomised by winning that bronze yesterday. what were your feelings of the time when he realised you'd finally got a medal? i wasn't going to finish first again. i'd ratherfinish last and fourth. there are some days itjust feels like i might not win today, i might not win tomorrow, but i'll have a medal. the gold might not come but i'll win a medal. i'll do what i need to do, i'll put the weight on and i have to perform. and i brought that intensity, i felt it in myself, my daughter was in the crowd and i pushed it up. i got really close to silver, as well, so i've got the bronze, i got really close to silver and i'm just so happy that i got something around my neck for once. 51am happy that i got something around my neck for once-—
