and hence the chilly feel, both by day and by night that is ushering in some arctic air, our first significant chilly blast of the autumn. so cold by nay, colder by nay chilly by night as well but there is some sunshine around as well and it's dry across many parts. this is the north—east coast, not too far to the north of that quite a lot of showers have gathered across parts of central and northern scotland, one or two for northern ireland and that east of england and the irish coast of england and wales, the north west midlands, but on balance a lot of dry weather around today. it's dry and bright with sunny spells but temperatures particularly in the south are two three degrees down compared to yesterday and there is a brisk wind blowing as well, that is a feature of the weather, it's going to become quite strong in northern and eastern areas through tonight and into tomorrow, blowing more showers southwards but inland, in sheltered areas, it will be cooler tonight. even the south, single figures. but

some ground frost the glens of scotland a true sign that autumn is upon us. tomorrow, the wind is really quite strong and eastern areas and probably it will pull a few more showers into the eastern side of england. there may on balance be fewerfurther side of england. there may on balance be fewer further west across northern ireland as the winds start to ease here but probably peaking with gusts of 45 miles an hour for northern and eastern parts of england and scotland so it will feel cooler and it might be that either today or tomorrow will be the first day since the beginning ofjune that we don't reach 20 celsius somewhere in the uk because of the wind direction. the weekend keeps high pressure moving and so we pick up a bit more mist and fog by then and we have a weather front sinking into the north as well but early saturday could be the coldest of this spell, temperatures down to one evening —— temperatures down to one evening —— temperatures down to one, even in rural areas. a fine start on saturday, mist and fog around and the weather front in the north to give rain for the north of scotland but as it moves southwards through the weekend it is more likely to

the late queen travelled thousands of miles during her reign and one of her prefered ways to fly was on concorde. in fact, according to flight attendents, she even had her favourite seat on the supersonic aircraft. andy howard has been to filton this morning to find out more about her majesty's love for the iconic aircraft. well, this is a tale of two queens, elizabeth ii of course, and the queen of the skies, concorde. her majesty did actually travel on this particular one, too. come inside, we'll explain all. i'll show you her seat she would sit in on this aircraft. it was of course number 1a, which is the window seat at the front. here we are.
1:41 pm
in 1d, still not a bad seat, just describe where she went on this particular concorde. we only found this out very recently following the queen's passing, a captain let us know, he checked his flight logs, he flew the queen on this very plane, in aerospace bristol we call it alpha foxtrot, that's the tail number, and she flew with him to ottawa in canada. what would flight time be to ottawa? it's not a standard route, approximately 3 hours and a0 minutes, depending on headwinds. if you look at the seat where i am now, there are a few pictures that may tell a different story of where it was. we think actually it might have been round the other way, the queen would actually face backwards and be able to continue her work on a table. we don't quite know the details of this particular concorde but she obviously had quite a connection to concorde in general. the queen and many members

of the royal family have a long history with concorde going back to its development in 1966. the queen visited filton here, just across the runway from where we are sitting right now, to see the development of the first british concorde, the prototype. and the duke of edinburgh was present on that occasion, too. he has a long connection with concorde, too. if you tune into points west later, i will show you the queen's cushion, because she actually had a particular cushion she could use, and i'll be chatting to the captain who took her to ottawa. andy howard reporting. well, it's notjust in central london where people have paying tribute to the queen. in hounslow, one family have been honouring her majesty in their own unique way. sharon barbour can tell us more. well, here it is, a great tribute to the queen, ten metres high, a painting by two artists who we'll

is our final artwork when it wasn't. hopefully people are happy now at least. we've been asking some of the people who have been passing what they thought of the mural. i think it's good. it reminds people the legacy the queen has left behind. i think it's very detailed. i didn't know was there, it surprised me, it's all right, it's ok. this will be a way all of us will remember our queen represented and what she's done for us, throughout her reign. this is the scene are now in westminster hall inside the palace of westminster, where the queen is lying in state. this is the first

full day of four full days in which the public are being invited to come and pay their respects. people who have been inside have talked about the quiet, the salinity, the fact that although they are there with many people, it feels as though they are the only person there. —— the solemnity. it has clearly meant a great deal to the tens of thousands of people, many of whom have been in but many more who are hoping to make their way in over the next three days. well, we will have more coverage of course of proceedings in central london. i'd like to take this moment to welcome viewers on bbc two who are watching this coverage. we have
