in the 1988 massacres, two different groups of political prisoners were killed — members of an armed group known as the mujahideen, and communists. the mujahideen had recently attacked iran from neighbouring iraq. ayatollah khomeini issued a secret decree, a fatwa, saying mujahideen prisoners who refused to repent are waging war against god and are condemned to execution. he ordered, "annihilate the enemies of islam immediately." thousands of mujahideen

prisoners were killed. several hundred leftist political prisoners were also executed. among them was my father, ahmad montazeri, who was killed for being a member of a communist group. the defendant was part of the management of the prison. he was calling out their names, he was bringing them into the so—called death community who eventually made the decision whether the prisoners should be executed or not. he was a god, and he was also bringing the prisoners to the actual place of where they were executed. the prison massacres tore families apart. vida and her husband, majid, met through a communist party in iran.

hello. all of us will see rain at times in the week ahead, though not all the time, there'll be drier, brighter moments too. last week was so very wet in scotland, especially into the western highlands, a decent amount of rain fell. in snowdonia, the cumbrian fells, northern ireland had quite a bit of rain, though east anglia, south east england, just a few millimeters. now, this is how the rain is shaping up over the next five days — and while those areas that were so very wet last week will see more significant rain, though not as much as we had last week. and actually, further south there's a chance for some higher rain totals here as weather systems just start to come in from a more southerly point into the uk, as we'll see in a moment. one area of low pressure is pulling away from the uk into scandinavia on monday and pulling away also a trailing weather front from it from south east england and east anglia where we will start monday with some outbreaks of rain.
9:55 pm
elsewhere, there'll be a lot of sunshine first thing, a lot of sunshine will continue. and the blustery conditions, though, across northern and western scotland further showers, may catch one in northern ireland, north west england, north wales, maybe be feeding on the breeze into the north midlands and it will be a cooler feeling day out there. now into tuesday, a ridge of high pressurejust edging in, its influence, being felt the most across southern areas. and with the wind falling light here with clear skies, temperatures are going to drop away. so the coldest to rural parts of southern south east england may well see a touch of frost going into tuesday morning. there may also be a few mist and fog patches around. many places on tuesday with that ridge of high pressure will stay dry. there must be more cloud around, mind you, and a weak weather front will bring the chance of a little light rain towards parts of northern ireland, more especially to north west scotland. so as we go from tuesday to wednesday, that rain is from another area of low pressure and it's training weather fronts, so here it is. 0ther fronts will move in. the rain tending to be more showery in nature, perhaps more patchy in nature but overnight into wednesday will extend through northern ireland
9:56 pm
and scotland and then on wednesday through northern and western parts of england into wales too. now ahead of that may not be too much of that rain reaching in towards east anglia in the southeast, at least in daylight hours. and behind it it looks like it clears into northern ireland and north west scotland as the day goes on. now this wet weather moves further south and southeast overnight and into thursday. there is a very, very brief gap before the next weather system coming in, but this one actually moving in from the south west. so actually, the rain hitting different areas on thursday. a lot of dry weather to begin with, but you can see the wetter, windy weather actually coming first into south west england on thursday. through more of the southern half of england into wales and actually southward towards northern ireland, whereas much of northern england and scotland will stay dry until quite late on. that rain will feed through overnight and into friday then around this area of low pressure, some strong winds moving in for friday, gales in places. in fact, for western scotland, we could see some gusts up to around 70 mph or so.
9:57 pm
so there could be some disruptive winds on friday and plenty of showers, perhaps even some longer spells of rain running in, particularly to scotland. a lot of fine sunny weather, although very blustery the further south you are. into the weekend, a trailing weather front clearing through on saturday, it's sun and showers. and then another weather system to our south west later in the weekend starting next week starts to feed some wet weather our way. because the weather systems are coming in from that direction it does mean the chance for some higher amounts of rain into parts of england and wales, where all of wales and much of england remain in drought.
