oh, you sexy beast. leslie phillips, who has died at the age of 98. time for a look at the weather. here's louise lear. what a beautiful picture. i hope you found the pot of gold with somebody enjoying the sunshine and sharp showers. this was the isle of man, with plenty of showers today and probably plenty of rainbows, and the showers have merged together into longer spells of rain in these defined lines. if you got caught in those, you probably had an hour of rain and another behind, and they will tend to fade away over the next few hours but the only exception is likely to be across the south coast. through the night tonight we will see the showers clinging on to channel coasts and they will drift steadily eastwards overnight. in terms of the feel of the weather,

because the winds have swung around to a westerly, it won't be quite as mild, may be single figures but even so respectable temperatures to greet us first thing in november. we start with early morning showers and lighter winds generally and fewer showers, and the exception may be the far north—west of scotland. here we will keep the showers through the day but because of a little more sunshine and light winds, a pleasant afternoon for many with temperatures between 11 and 15 degrees and we are being spoiled with the feel of the weather at the moment and there is more to come as we move to the end of the week, because with this area of the week, because with this area of high pressure will block the weather fronts in the north—west, of high pressure will block the weatherfronts in the north—west, so feeding the moisture here but plenty of warmth coming from the south and the will be the talking point by day and night. on thursday, we could see highs of 16, possibly 17 celsius, may be some record—breaking minimum temperatures to come, but you will have to watch the ten o'clock news to hear about that. in terms of the

wind strengths, 50 or 60 mph, and in terms of the feel of the weather, around 17 celsius as a high, but those temperatures not falling very far at all through the night. thanks, louise. that's all from the bbc news at six, the news continues here on bbc one , as now its time to join our colleagues across the nations and regions for the news where you are , goodnight. hello and welcome to sportsday — i'm hugh ferris. our headlines this evening. blatter admits the choice was bad. under two weeks from the qatar world cup, the man who oversaw the decision to take the competition to the gulf state claims it was a mistake. the tournamnet*s organising committee have insisted that everyone*s welcome, but has one of their ambassadors undermined that with his comments on homosexuality?

heavy showers around, interspersed with some spells of sunshine. tomorrow is looking pretty similar. there will be increasing amounts of sunshine and fewer showers around. the winds won't be quite as strong, all tied in with this area of low pressure sitting to the northwest of scotland. it'll be feeding in showers from a west—southwest direction as we move through the night. but the winds will be easing down gradually overnight. still quite a breezy night to come, but not as windy as the previous night. some heavy showers still, though, across southern and western parts of the country, a few as well across northwest scotland, those temperatures falling to lows of 4—10 degrees. so, a showery start to tomorrow morning. as we head through the day, it looks like the showers will become few and further between. so increasing amounts of sunshine, some eastern areas staying dry altogether. temperature—wise, 11 to 14, maybe 15 degrees in the warmest spots. but it's set to get a lot milder for thursday and for friday, both by day and by night. but it will often be cloudy and very windy.
