hello. we saw some spectacular sunshine to the west of the uk on sunday, and some rather remarkable temperatures across western wales. 21 degrees celsius was the high recorded in porthmadog. but take a look at the outlook for the week ahead here and you'll see we're set to come back down to average values for our temperatures, and things are going to turn rather wet and windy too, so some big changes to come. the warm air across the uk has been feeding up from the south — a long way south, in fact, in the atlantic. that's why it's been so mild, if not warm. but on into the new week, we start to pull our
6:56 pm
airstream in from the west. as atlantic lows come rolling across us, it gets wet again, it gets windy again, and our temperatures by day will come to sit at around the 10 to 12—degree mark, and by the end of the week we're looking at some chillier nights. monday morning could be somewhat chilly to the far east, across east anglia. mist and low cloud could hold the temperatures back through the day across central and eastern parts of england. in the west, a weather front stalls across western scotland, wales and the south—west of england. pretty wet here for some during daytime hours. you can see the temperatures already down on the values of the weekend. this weather front pushes eastward but tends to die a death overnight monday. this low picks up the business for tuesday, and this front coming
6:57 pm
in will drop some very intense rain to areas in its path. unlike monday's weather front, though, it shifts on at quite a pace, so after a wet start in the west, it looks brighter for the afternoon. there will be some showers around, though, and quite squally winds. perhaps the north—east of scotland not seeing the rain until after dark. temperatures certainly much closer to average values. now midweek, perhaps the biggest question marks in the detail of our forecast. we're pretty confident low pressure will be running the show. there's going to be some wet and windy weather around, but the detail as to exactly where the wettest and windiest conditions will take until closer to the time to really pin down. at the moment, wednesday looks like it will be particularly wet to the south of the uk, then the heavier rain will track north—eastwards after dark. there are the temperatures, 10 to 13 degrees. the winds possibly quite a significant issue wednesday evening across england and wales, particularly down across the south coast, and then into the early hours of thursday for the north—east of england and the
6:58 pm
north—east of scotland. there's even the potential for us to see storm—force winds affecting the northern isles into the early hours of thursday. this weather front rolls through, though, and is almost out of the way by dawn, so thursday will bring some sunny spells to many areas, but it will also bring some quite hefty showers feeding in on the westerly wind, and those showers will run a good way eastwards. and through the course of the week, all of that rain does add up, and i think for some areas, if you look towards the west, we could be talking about close to 100mm, four inches of rain — south wales, the north—west of england, the south—west of scotland. but rain for all in terms of our outlook. end of the week with the front away to the east, i think a tiny little bit of ridging of high pressure there for friday will calm things down for many. still pretty showery for northern ireland and western scotland. could be quite cool to start off with on friday, could be some mist and fog around, but i think come the afternoon, sunshine, particularly for england and wales, highs of 10 or 11. but with clear skies, light winds, and moving into a cooler air mass, looks like we could see quite a widespread frost first thing saturday morning. first widespread one when we've seen in a while now. so that's our outlook for the week
