* with with us *with us as * with us as well. that cold to stay with us as well. that cold air is with us through tomorrow and thursday and friday, but there is just a hint that by the weekend we will see some mild at coming back in but there's quite a few wintry hazards to get through between now and then, again the freezing fog, but i see for many where we've had the snow and snow showers keep coming across the north of scotland with gusty winds blowing them south into the east of scotland, eastern england, and look at this reign of rain, sleet and snow in the south pushing as far as sussex. temperature is widely below freezing once again, —10 over the snow fields and the rain and sleet and snow is with us tomorrow morning, so that could be problematic for the rush hour and overnight. blizzards in the north because we have strong and gusty winds blowing the snow showers around, so again, tomorrow, the brisk north wind is with us and a stronger wind will come tomorrow and

temperatures might get a degree higher than today but it will not feel like it because you have the strong wind to add to it, a strong wind in the south and west again and then quite soon after dark temperatures plummet below freezing and the snow showers will pile up with the blizzards in the north, widely frosty and again tomorrow night, so again the risk of ice and by thursday we are starting to see more clear sunshine around and if you are showers for most, but continuing in the north and east and still bitterly cold. as ever, more on the app. still bitterly cold. as ever, more on the app-— on the app. that's it from us on the bbc news- — on the app. that's it from us on the bbc news- the _ on the app. that's it from us on the bbc news. the main _ on the app. that's it from us on the bbc news. the main news - on the app. that's it from us on the | bbc news. the main news continues on the bbc one channel as we join colleagues across the hello there i'm olly foster , we are live in qatar at the world cup, here's what's

hello there, welcome along wherever you are watching in the world, there is so much at stake over the next 2a hours in qatar, the world cup semi—finals kick off at the lusail stadium isjust under half an hour away, argentina against croatia and we have teams news for you. lino massey and luka modric will believe their countries out there. . let's start with argentina they have made a couple of changes to the team that knocked out the dutch on penalties. they have gone to a back for. melina romero and nicholas

tightly fico coming in to that defence. and parade is coming into the midfield. that is to conserve the midfield. that is to conserve the publisher midfield three that we will show you in a second. and that meant lionel messi. he's on his i7ist cap tonight. and manchester cities cooley and alvarez up with them. croatia are unchanged to the team that knocked out brazil. the man in the facemask yes coat of rodeo. and so set in the back and then it is that midfield three that have served them so well luka modric reservation and cover church. 331 caps between them before tonight. so 334. plus village, rich and parentage upfront.

petrovich a little unlucky not to start in front of cry merge after scoring that goes against the brazilians to take it to penalties. so those are the teams. lots of individual battles they had. so those are the teams, lots of individual battles lie ahead, but if ever there was a match about two individuals, this is it. luke modric, the croatia captian, lionel messi, argentina's leader, and as close as you can get to a living legend for one great of the game, the last four will be their last stand. lionel messi is 35 and luka modric, 37. still, for argentina and croatia, so much depends on them. for argentina, it has been a world cup on a cliff edge. defeat to saudi arabia meant no room for more slip—ups. and messi said it's
6:36 pm
his final chance. but in four games since then, a nation swelled around its star. messi, it had to be! they beat australia 2—1 and then the netherlands on penalties in a heated quarterfinal. now they are two games from the one lionel messi is missing, and argentina has waited since the days of diego. diego maradona, the world's greatest player, receives the world's most important football prize. there has been enormous pressure on lionel messi to be the new diego. after the quarterfinal match, when lionel messi slightly lashed out a little, people are saying it is diego taking over messi. so all of this is giving us a closer look at what the real messi is like, and he is a different kind of leader from maradona and a very different kind of player.
6:37 pm
let's enjoy having him is the best thing for football if he was well. we have a long way to go with that of a touch from march and we have to focus on that. croatia's population is half the size of london, yet for two world cups running, they are in the semis. last time at this stage, they beat england and luka modric won the ballon d'or. this time, it has been hard work. croatia have broken hearts on penalties. inside 90 minutes, they have won just one game, but they have knocked out brazil. and he hasn't done it, croatia have yet again! modric has no goals and no assists, but his team have found a way. it's a great thing to be among the four best national teams for two in a row. however we want more. we are playing a great argentina team led

by lionel messi. they are highly motivated but they are under greater pressure than croatia at this moment in time. 16 years on from their first world cup, two stars have a last chance. for the team who lose, there will be one more match too, but neither luka modric nor lionel messi want to play for third place. joe lenski bbc news. let's cross live to the lusail stadium, dan, two very special players there tonight, but the argentinian fans are very special as well, and i'm sure qatars supreme their passion and energy that the argentina fans of [it up this tournament. i was here two and half months for argentina is group match against mexico. a game they had to win and it'd thanks in part to lionel messi with a goal and assist

in that occasion. the atmosphere that evening was extraordinary. relentless support for their subsite. everywhere you look i the city those famous blue and white colours of the argentina shirt. the argentina embassy in delhi record reckon that up to 400,000 friends have made the journey here across from south america to support their side. many many hundreds of thousands of indians here in qatar and huge support for from that community for argentina so they would not be lacking in support. i'm sure the organisers will be helping their progress as a guarantee for their progress as a guarantee for the stadium if argentina get there. as you been here in argentina is are hoping for a lionel messi to finally achieve that pinnacle in world football itself. the one thing that eludes them for all his genius and
6:40 pm
that has so far proved beyond them. many believe it would only be right and property for him to achieve that 36 years on from the last time argentina one and he so often compared to the ogo maradona who brought the country to that triumph. it would be relevant in peoples mind if he does achieve it. if anyone can cause an upset it is croatia. they have less than 4 million population and they reach a final last year last four years ago by beating england. luka modric another talismanic footballer and kept in for a side. he has inspired his team to this stage of the competition again and they dismissed brazil so they will be high on confidence. and there midfield it was so effective in that much. i think argentina would be concerned about croatia and something has to give and just one of these teams would be back to face france or morocco in the final.
