context in which this game takes place because it has become between the two sets of fans more and more acrimonious. it the two sets of fans more and more acrimonious-— acrimonious. it has. first of all, this is quite _ acrimonious. it has. first of all, this is quite a — acrimonious. it has. first of all, this is quite a unique _ acrimonious. it has. first of all, this is quite a unique situation l acrimonious. it has. first of all, i this is quite a unique situation for both of these clubs, it's their first competitive match since november the 12th and their reintroduction to the domestic game is in a fixture that has become one of the most intense modern rivalries of the most intense modern rivalries of this era. we know whenever liverpool and manchester city face off in the premier league there is always so much riding on it because there are always and so often such small margins between them in terms of points over the course of the season. as you say, tonight, this is an efl cup fourth—round match but the memories are still fresh of their last league meeting which was in october whenjurgen klopp made comments pretty much saying that liverpool were unable to match city's spending power. the emotion is then boiled over in the stands and on the touchline in that game during a 1—0 win for the home side,

liverpool. tonight, this is different, it's christmas, it's a cup match, you'd think it will be a different atmosphere from the heated at dummy afternoon at anfield but both clubs have felt the need to issue letters to both sets of supporters to help them tackle inappropriate behaviour. i must say it is pretty calm outside the etihad here at the moment and pep guardiola also this moment at pre—match conference that both coaches have a response ability to set an example as well. talking to some of the fans around the ground, it seems as though they are happy to watch their teams after the world cup, it's good to be back. ., * to be back. you're right. the rivalry is _ to be back. you're right. the rivalry is born _ to be back. you're right. the rivalry is born in _ to be back. you're right. the rivalry is born in the - to be back. you're right. the rivalry is born in the context| to be back. you're right. the l rivalry is born in the context of trophies being fought by both sides because that ratchets it up every year. the gap between the two are in the premier league is large enough to suggested that perhaps that rivalry will play out only competitions this year. you're ri . ht.

6:38 pm
wouldn't have even thought to tell anyone. i wouldn't think it's an issue to raise, but now, i guess, with organisations like this around and with clips taking it more seriously and actually banning people or i know a few clubs have done educational programmes for certain fans of a young age to try and teach them rather than just banning them outright and show them that this behaviour is not acceptable, i think that is positive, in a way, that people know they have somewhere to go. what positive, in a way, that people know they have somewhere to go. what sort of behaviour — they have somewhere to go. what sort of behaviour are _ they have somewhere to go. what sort of behaviour are we _ they have somewhere to go. what sort of behaviour are we talking _ they have somewhere to go. what sort of behaviour are we talking about? - of behaviour are we talking about? what _ of behaviour are we talking about? what things are being reported? derogatory comments are the main ones that come up. fans feeling uncomfortable, even just ones that come up. fans feeling uncomfortable, evenjust being in the stadium and joining in with the singing. women are often told that they shouldn't be there or they don't belong there, in particular, at away games, i know it is common forfans to stand at away games, i know it is common for fans to stand wherever and women are usually told you shouldn't be here. we had things like that raised and then also it goes to the

hard, too early and then you might have minor setbacks. unfortunately, injuries happen and setbacks happen but if you train hard and you work hard and give yourself the best chance to perform, then you've got an opportunity to come back. as i said before, they've given him a chance to take as long as you need, jofra archer has overseen taken a bit of time away, he has lent time out of the game and by the sounds of it, having spoken to some of his friends and see me on the circuit last summer, he is certainly in the right frame of mind to feel fit and strong and put that england shirt back on. 21 strong and put that england shirt back on. ., . back on. 27, now, when he broke throu~h back on. 27, now, when he broke through he _ back on. 27, now, when he broke through he was _ back on. 27, now, when he broke through he was a _ back on. 27, now, when he broke through he was a much _ back on. 27, now, when he broke through he was a much younger. back on. 27, now, when he broke - through he was a much younger man before these problems in the 2019 world cup playing such a pivotal role, there has been talk that may be test cricket is perhaps a step too far for him. be test cricket is perhaps a step too farfor him. is be test cricket is perhaps a step too far for him. is there still that worry that he might not reach that extraordinary potential we saw all those years ago?— those years ago? that's the killer ruestion, those years ago? that's the killer question. and _ those years ago? that's the killer question, and a _ those years ago? that's the killer question, and a great _ those years ago? that's the killer question, and a great question i those years ago? that's the killer question, and a great question as well. training at the elite level

speaking before the club's latest statement, he told me his personal reaction. i think it's absolutely outrageous. having been a victim of this myself, knowing the impact it has on an individual*s mind, it's something you can't explain unless you've been a victim. it's quite frankly disgusting and i'm really saddened that he's had to go through this and he's had to go through this process. i'm really happy that he was vocal with it, do not get me wrong, i think that's a real sign of strength. think that's a real sign of strength-— think that's a real sign of strenuth. . , ., .. strength. the incident you mention, ha - enin: strength. the incident you mention, happening to _ strength. the incident you mention, happening to you. — strength. the incident you mention, happening to you, given _ strength. the incident you mention, happening to you, given that - strength. the incident you mention, happening to you, given that this i strength. the incident you mention, happening to you, given that this is| happening to you, given that this is a gift given at the height of goodwill and in an informal setting, essentially, a bit of fun. can you give us the impression from your own experience of how perhaps what is meant of that is a joke that doesn't land. meant of that is a 'oke that doesn't land. . . . meant of that is a 'oke that doesn't land. , , ., , ., meant of that is a 'oke that doesn't land. , , ., ., meant of that is a 'oke that doesn't land. ,, ., ., land. this is what you would class as banter- — land. this is what you would class as banter. this _ land. this is what you would class as banter. this is _ land. this is what you would class as banter. this is changing -

land. this is what you would class as banter. this is changing room | as banter. this is changing room team banter to where people are an educated, naive, and do not understand the repercussions of their actions. that's what it boils down to. the fact that he opened this secret santa and his team—mates persisted on sniggering and laughing between themselves as if it was some sort of joke between themselves as if it was some sort ofjoke is quite sickening, i'm outraged, i'm so disappointed. this is a beautiful sport and it has been tarnished by things that need to be eradicated, that should not be relevant whatsoever, for too long we have been passive and been outraged a racism in sport, then we are moved on, we have to resist that we have to stay on the course and we need to stop behaviour like this from continuing, frankly, because it is sickening. i'm really happy that so many people have shown him so much support, for him to speak out about it, he has released a video saying, people have accepted this, people have accepted
6:47 pm
whatever. no, they haven't. this issue cannot get brushed under the carpet, you need to be spoken about, address, things need to be put into address, things need to be put into a place and sanctioned so that this never happens again. we need generational change and that is something that i'm trying to champion, generational change within the sport. we could see men competing in artistic swimming at the olympics for the first time in 202a. the international olympic committee has approved their inclusion in the team event from the paris games. men have been allowed at the world championships since 2015 in the sport formerly known as synchronised swimming. bill may won gold at that tournament, but wasn't allowed to compete at the 2004 olympics. hejoins me now. it's an extraordinary day for your sport, we used to know it as a synchronised swimming, now artistic swimming. you called it an impossible dream, realise. exactly. this has been _ impossible dream, realise. exactly. this has been a _ impossible dream, realise. exactly. this has been a long _ impossible dream, realise. exactly. this has been a long time _ impossible dream, realise. exactly. this has been a long time coming i impossible dream, realise. exactly. l this has been a long time coming and it's paying tribute to all the trailblazers in all the sports that
6:48 pm
have pushed for equality, equity, for all of these athletes that had a dream that can now push forward. one of our athletes, one of our male athletes, giorgio, said before he was a bird without wings, but now he has wings and he can fly. it's true. our sport is evolving, the rules are changing, the governing body of all aquatic sports just changed to world aquatics so our sport is evolving and with that they are allowing men, it's exciting, i think we're going to enjoy because it's a new dynamic in the sort of artistic swimming. tell me how the team event which the mammal be allowed to compete at the paris olympics, how will it change? before, it was only allowed, to have women in the games. it was a athletes, and now they can have up to two men. any country can have it, an equal playing field, they are allowed to men so i think it's going to be really exciting and it's going to be really exciting and it's going to be really exciting and it's going to be a new dynamic. people are going to see the sport continue to
6:49 pm
evolve, more men, even may be solos and even male— male duets. this is a huge step. this is everyone's dream, inspiring people, this is what people watch or, to see this, it's an explosion of our hearts, our minds, of all the hard work that everyone has put in. thejudges, officials, coaches, families, everyone is ever supported us for our dreams, now is time for us all to shine together and feel that sport and go to the olympic games. there has been a bit of pushback, one athlete talked about the they didn't like seeing men's legs. i trust you have nice legs? you know what, we everyone _ trust you have nice legs? you know what, we everyone has _ trust you have nice legs? you know what, we everyone has to - trust you have nice legs? you know what, we everyone has to work i trust you have nice legs? you know what, we everyone has to work on | what, we everyone has to work on something was not no one is perfect in any sport, there is always going to be people with a pushback, but this is the greatest thing. this is the exact thing to prove to people that there is possibility with anything. if somebody wants to do something, it's notjust about

at the pn to the delight of the 7000 fans here at the pm at]. levelling things at 1-1 at the pm at]. levelling things at 1—1 sets, it went to another match tie—break, andy murray one but it was the englishman who was too strong for andy murray this afternoon, taking that 10—8. if you add that to the england doubles winner earlier, when we saw paul jaber and neil stop ski beating jamie mary and johnny o'mara, again in a match tie—break, that gives england a 5—1 lead over scotland in the match overall. in this evening's session, england arejust the match overall. in this evening's session, england are just one victory away from claiming the thai overall. it's three points for this evening, so if paul beats aidan, that means england win overall. if scotland can get the win, that can bring it back to 5—4 and maybe that is a fairy tale ending that people want because that means the tie
6:52 pm
would be settled by the final match which is a doubles match, andy and jamie murray together potentially for the last time, almost certainly for the last time, almost certainly for the last time, almost certainly for the last time in scotland. they would be looking to win the match for scotland. forthat would be looking to win the match for scotland. for that to happen, they first need aidan to get the job donein they first need aidan to get the job done in the singles. that will be on the bbc sport website later on. next, to a yacht race that's known as one of the most difficult in the world. the sydney—hobart race begins on boxing day and despite its reputation it often has some unusual recruits. one participant won their place in an office lucky dip, while the british entry also has some surprising crew members. tom kneen leads them as britain attempts to win the race for the first time since 1969. and with his yacht sunrise winning the prestigious fastnet race last year, he's looking forward to the challenge.
6:53 pm
i haven't really recovered yet which was the first major race that we won with sunrise. i think that you take on these challenges with some in trepidation, but, we are fully aware of what we are in for. we are also aware that this particular race, the sydney hobart race, can be absolutely terrifying, to be honest. the whole weather system in that area is different and you end up with big waves and lots of wind. if you're lucky, there are lots of wind is behind you and that becomes slightly less difficult. if you get a situation where you are having to go into the wind, in big seas, it can be very rough. and i get seasick. i'm lucky because the crew are about as prepared as they possibly could be, and ultimately i'm personally concerned at the
6:54 pm
moment that i am going to be the weak link. but ultimately, i will get there and i've often described sunrise as a mental health wash for me. as soon as i get on the boat and start steering i feel hugely better and more confident. i think that's what i need. i need to get down there and start sailing again. it's a daunting prospect to take on a 600 mile race in a 37 foot boat where the weather could be pretty nasty. most of my team have been found in pubs along the south coast of the uk. we first started stealing together all the core of the team first started sailing together in 2019. we are a young team of mates but because we are doing what we love and everybody is obsessed, you get messages from midnight on the whatsapp group talking about a
6:55 pm
slight tweak that we could make to a certain bit of the boat that might give us a competitive edge. i think the expectation of winning is fairly low, we go to win our class. it's fair to try low, we go to win our class. it's fairto try and low, we go to win our class. it's fair to try and beat the boats that are similar to yours, trying to take on the super maxis who are professionally crewed and have huge budgets are very difficult. we have realised over the last couple of years that we are able to take those guys on and beat them. certainly we are not going with the view that we have no chance, but i am... i would pinch myself if i pulled it off. if you're watching us on sportsday, yu might not be in the middle of putting the kids to bed, but right now over on cbeebies you might be interested in who's reading the bedtime story. your little ones would be in the rather large and effective hands of anthonyjoshua, who,
6:56 pm
