hello there. 2023 started on a mild note across the southern half of the uk. further north ,it was a different story, particularly in scotland, with snow for some and some very low temperatures in the highlands. but over the next few days i think it is mostly mild weather that will win out, with some rain at times equally though, some drier and chillier interludes. as we head into monday it's this little ridge of high pressure that's going to be in charge of the weather. a brief, drier interlude with a wedge of colder air in place. and the day certainly starting on a really cold note across northern areas, particularly in scotland. ice an issue here, also
9:55 pm
for northern ireland and for northern england. and further south, some showery rain pushing across the far south east of england. that will tend to ease away, i think, as we go through the morning. and then for most of us, some good spells of sunshine, some further showers pushing into the western side of scotland. and some of those will be wintry and a slightly chillier day, particularly in the south. highs ofjust nine degrees and further north, two or three across some parts of northern scotland. but a change as we move out of monday into tuesday. low pressure moving in from the atlantic with some frontal systems. this first one bringing some outbreaks of rain, some snow over high ground in scotland and northern england. but this next one, i think, will mostly be rain because it will be ushering in some milder air. so, temperatures north to south between five and i2, maybe 13 degrees in southern parts of england with some quite strong winds as well. as we move through tuesday night and into wednesday, that wet and blustery weather will push eastwards. it will clear to leave a mix of sunshine and showers. on wednesday, we will start to pull something colder
9:56 pm
back into the north, but further south, very mild indeed. 13 in cardiff, 1a degrees in london and in norwich. another very brief ridge of high pressure as we move through wednesday night into thursday. so, that will give some drier weatherfor a time, but it won't last long. there's another frontal system that will be moving its way in. depending onjust how far north this ends up. we may see some snow over higher ground in scotland, but for most it will be rain, very mild across much of england and wales. northern ireland too. ten degrees there for belfast, a little bit colder in the north of scotland. now through thursday night, it looks like that weather system will ease away eastwards. another one of these little ridges of high pressure building in, and another wedge of cold air. so, friday will be another one of those drier but chillier interludes. still some showers around, perhaps most especially across eastern coasts, but some spells of sunshine to temperatures, though, ranging from around five degrees in glasgow to ten in london,
9:57 pm
cardiff and plymouth. now, as we look further ahead, so through next weekend, we'll see another frontal system pushing through. behind that, a return to something a little chillier, some wintry showers up towards the northwest, further frontal systems waiting in the wings. this is all because the jet stream, the winds high up in the atmosphere will be blowing pretty much right across our shores. and depending onjust how far north orjust how far south the jet stream ends up, well, that will determine just how mild orjust how cold things will be. now, it looks like as we head through next weekend and into the starts of the following week, temperatures will generally be around the average for the time of year, coldest in the north, mildest in the south. and there will be some further rain at times.
