hello and welcome to sportsday. what a day for wales football and it's fans... they're saying goodbye to gareth bale, as he's retiring from professional football. the 33—year—old steps away from the game having just led wales to a first world cup in 64 years. where, he scored their only goal of the tournament against the usa. the campaign in qatar ultimately ended in disappointment for wales, but bale retires as his country's most capped men's player with 41 goals from his 111 appearances. in that time he was part of their run to the semi—finals at euro 2016, and then led them to two more majorfinals. bale's club career took him from southampton to tottenham hotspur, then to a world record transfer to the spanish giants real madrid. he finished his career at la fc —
