sees him reach his first masters final for 20 years. hello there, good evening, we are going to start with football because what drama we have had over the last few hours. it could prove to be a pivotal weekend in the premier leauge title race, mancheser city have slipped up in their pursuit of leaders arsenal. they lost the manchester derby 2—1 at old trafford. united came from behind, thanks to a contentious equaliser, marcus rashford was involved in that before he continued his impressive goalscoring run, with the late winner. ben croucher reports.
7:33 pm
one city, two halves. more than just red and blue, more than united versus city, a clash of styles, cultures, identities. erling haaland represents the modern man city, a hat—trick in the reverse fixture, the premier league's top scorer, his early bustle rebuffed. marcus rashford is a manchester united's ace. pace, yes, finish, not this time. frustrations were boiling over for everyone in red. this made what followed in the second half even harder to watch. it's jack grealish in the manchester derby. on the field for just three minutes, instant impact. for an hour this was a derby without bite, without controversy. step forward, rashford. namely behind the city defense and off—side. but in leaving the ball and allowing bruno fernandes to score, was he active? the assistants said yes, bemusement ensued. the referee said no. it's a goal. bedlam followed.
7:34 pm
now, we had a derby. complete with its comeback. nine goals at home in nine games now for rashford, equalling the united record, nine wins in a row for united themselves, it's a result that changes the narrative in manchester that mightjust change the course of their seasons. and maybe even the title. two teams, one city, still very much divided. quite a winning run that manchester united are on. they have moved up to third, one point behind city. but what about that equalising goal, when an offside rashford was ruled to be not interfering with play even as he ran for a pass intended for him before bruno fernandes scored. i thought that i went a bit early, so ijust didn't run. you know, if i would have run for the ball, i would have just taken it and try to score or tried to pass to bruno, but i thought i was offside, so i stopped, i didn't touch the ball. so yeah, that is all i could do in that
7:35 pm
situation, really, it is up to the referees and the linesmen and how they see it, but yes, you know, from my point of view i wasn't involved in the play. if i wanted to be involved with the play, then i could have easily taken the ball. so yeah, ifeel like it should have stood. rashford off—side, bruno fernandes not. rashford to distract the keeper and the central defender. it is what it is, so... but we know how we play. we know exactly what we play. for the referee, it is not easy. it confused the backline, clear, that's the rule. . but i will be happy- if it was my team, as well. when i concede a goal like that, i can see - the disappointment on the other side. i i can see the referee, they did well. - that's been going on at the top of
7:36 pm
the table. there were more boos at full—time at everton. they took the lead, but lost 2—1 to the premier league's bottom side, southampton, and are now only above saints on goal difference. everton*s board of directors weren't there to see the defeat after being advised to stay away from the match following what the club described as a "real and credible threat to their safety and security." patrick gearey sent us this after the final whistle. everton have lost a significant match in their fight against relegation from the premier league. they lost to southampton this afternoon. but even before that, the club came out, with a statement, calling this a profoundly sad day for everton and supporters. they said that security advisers had told the club's board to stay away saying they had received malicious and threatening communications and there had been instances of anti—social behaviour against individuals. everton are facing a second straight struggle against relegation from the premier league was up
7:37 pm
the mood around here has darkened and a group of supporters are staging a sit in protest inside goodison park. they are calling on the owner, who has pumped a lot of money into the cloud, to make sweeping leadership changes. they say that it is necessary to rescue everton but they have emphasised that their protest is peaceful and they are unaware of any threats against individuals. everton are one of the famous names in english football, they have been in the top flight since the early 1950s and are due to move to a big new stadium on the banks of the mersey next year. there is a sense, this evening, with these protests and the results on the pitch that this is a club in some turmoil. ever turn at losing 2—1 to southampton. patrick gearey there outside goodison park. he also spoke to some of the fans following their defeat. the process is fully justified, the club has been rotten from the

core... performances like that we can week out. we got some good players that they need the confidence. we need to keep lampard and keep them going. isjust not great. i think they have to change the manager at this stage. | sorry to see frank go. but i think they need a change of manager. they need somebody who can come in and | energise the team. what they are playing at the moment is towards the ball but i think short term, lampard is clearly not good enough to manage. he's not a premier league manager. so despite the board staying away from the match because of fears over their saftey, a lot of the fans are clearly angry with the manager. the off field noise is there and things that we can control as players and staff is do things right and today we got beaten in the game. none of the board are here today because of safety concerns, what was your reaction to that news? i spoke about it before the game. it's a difficult period,
7:39 pm
there is so much passion in this club, for various reasons, and the right reasons. everybody here at the club wants the best for the club and of course over the years we have come in this direction that now we are in relegation battle this year. i think it's as much as i need to say on it tonight. liverpool are also on a poor run of form with back—to—back league defeats. they lost 3—0 at brighton, the seagulls moving above liverpool into seventh. all the goals came in the second half at the amex community stadium. solly march scored twice before danny wellbeck added the third. they were the better team and well deserved, great performance. i thought in moments it looks a bit too easy for them but anyway they played really well. really well—organised team against a well—organised team. great day for everyone, one of the best performances from the team as i can remember in a long time so yeah, to win 3—0 at home to liverpool is a great result for us. we take it game by game and we train so hard in a week and the gaffer puts us through our paces and he is so particular with his details and i think that's why we are doing so well is we have to keep that going.
7:40 pm
nottingham forest are still on the up. they won the east midlands derby against leicester 2—0. brennanjohnson scored both goals at the city ground. it's the first time they have won back—to—back league games this season and that has seen them move up to 13th, five points second—half performance i thought was excellent, i thought it was an even game, i know we gave them a chance, we got away with a little bit but it was poor defending from our point of view. half—time was just about stepping up a little bit. everything, like you said, it was an even game but we felt the game was there to be taken and i thought we played really well second half, took the chances we created, managed the game really well and we were all good for the win. wolves have moved out of the relegation zone for the first time in three months. daniel podence scored the only goal of the game shortly after half time. the defeat sees the hammers drop into the bottom three. the last game day in the premier league, brentford have beaten bournemouth 2—0.
7:41 pm
ivan toney scored brentford's first from the spotjust before the break. mathias jensen then finished off a wonderful move to seal the points. that moves brentford up to eighth, bumping liverpool further down the table to ninth. the holders celtic are through to the scottish league cup final. they dominated the game at hampden park against kilmarnock, although only made sure of the win late on. 2—0 the final score. joe lynskey reports. for celtic and kilmarnock, this was a match with a memory attached. in 2012, they met in the league cup final which kilmarnock won. but they had not been to hand and pack since. rory mckenzie was in the crowd that day, for ii rory mckenzie was in the crowd that day, for 11 years he has dreams of a goal on this stage. butjoe hart was on the way. celtic beat kilmarnock in the league just last week. they would always be favourites. it in the league just last week. they would always be favourites. it was a aood one would always be favourites. it was a good one and _ would always be favourites. it was a good one and it _ would always be favourites. it was a good one and it ends _ would always be favourites. it was a good one and it ends up _ would always be favourites. it was a good one and it ends up in -

with a six goal lead. fire was truly burning from the sunshine girls as kd anne dehaney showed her passion. jamaica clawed their way back then pulled away shown showcasing their speed through the court. with an eight goal deficit, england's defence wasn't helped as leila gusgove had to be subbed. nearing the end of the third quarter, england's olivia narrowed the gap butjamaica advantage was still seven. with the crowd behind the roses, and only four minutes to go, sophie drakeford lewis gave them hope. as the final seconds counted down, the jamaicans sealed the deal and england were out of time. when we talk about needing learnings out of january out of the series we found out a lot about ourselves both early in the game and in the back end. some of which are still very, very positive, to draw the score back to three on three occasions in that last quarter shows some

resilience but it also shows you the work we still have left to do. so on saturday, sunshine girls shone, its winner takes all tomorrow. it's been a bad day for english sides in rugby union's european champions cup. sale, northampton saints and gloucester all losing. jim lumsden rounds up the action. it had been a solid season for sale, save for tripping up in toulouse thrashed 45—19 there by the five—time champion. sale had sought a second in the premiership seeing off both leicester and saracens and acker went over after ten minutes. the task became tougher. this tackle judged to be dangerous and his last contribution to the game. a man down, sale held firm for a while but the strain became intolerable. penalties conceded, dispatched by melvyn jaminet. the contest was as good as over

7:48 pm
andy murray says he is ready to make a statement at the australian open that starts on monday. he's been runner—up five times in melbourne, although he does have a tricky first round match against world number 14, matteo berrettini. my movement and stuff was significantly better than what it would have been at this stage last year, so... you know, when i move well, i tend to play well and that is really important for me. and that it's probably been the thing i have been happiest about since i got here. the nfl playoffs begin this weekend for 12 of the 14 teams that have made the post—season, all with hopes of reaching super bowl 57. for the third season the league's enlarged super wild card weekend will see six games over the next three days. paul frostick looks ahead. 32 teams began the season, only 14 remain. the build—up to america's biggest

7:50 pm
i know it's going to be hard to beat a team three times. i'm looking forward to the matchup, i know the defense is going to be ready and their offense is going to be ready and we are going to be ready. i'm just looking forward to the matchup. they might not be the form favourites but buffalo bills have the neutrals onside. as demar hamlin continues his recovery following a cardiac arrest, the emotional pull of a buffalo wing might prove hard to resist. —— a buffalo win but emotions can get the better of teams. at this stage of the season, there are no margins for error. when i go home, we understand that. at the end of the day, come sunday, the only thing that matters is scoring more points on the other team. so trying to have a good week of practice, putting up best foot forward, making sure that we are holding ourselves to our own standards, and obviously taking it
7:51 pm
day by day but... everything that we are doing is in hopes to win on sunday. glendale in february is the endgame. the journey to arizona begins this weekend. efe obada played for the buffalo bills in last season's play—offs and is now a defensive end with washington commanders. obada told us there'll always something different about a play—off game. i think leading up to the game, or leading up to a playoff game, everything in terms of preparation is going to be the same. the thing with the bills, in terms of the training and the coaching, it is always at a higher standard, is always at this championship calibre. to quote them. they do that so that when you get in those situations you kind ofjust fall back on your training. but personally, emotionally, when you are out there, it is different. the atmosphere is different. every play, all three phases,
7:52 pm
specialteam, defence, offence, it seems that much more important. it's just charged. especially when it was in a home game, as well. it was just crazy. it was crazy. from my personal experience, playing all of these teams, obviously, the most recent playoff team was dallas and then prior to that was the 49ers. and then obviously a few others. but i would probably go with the 49ers, just because of the versatility on the offence. the capability of not being able to play games without quarterbacks, the run game, the pass game, the defence, it was an outstanding defence, so all around, i think they were really good. they are a well—built team because. keep an eye on them. it's semifinals day in the masters snooker at alexandra palace. mark williams last reached the final 20 years ago when he won the second of his masters titles. the 47—year—old welshman has reached another after sweeping aside jack lisowski without losing a frame this afternoon. williams knocked out ronnie

o'sullivan in the quarterfinals. i don't think i'm a better pot, nowhere near, but i think i'm a better all—round player now than i've ever been. can i put the balls that are used to? i used to but ridiculous balls when i used to thrash the nougat back on the day but i don't pot them now. as much. so i have to rely on other parts, and not go for the crazy ones. i still go the crazy shots, if i can still go the crazy shots, if i can still see a crazy shot then i will go for it, but i've just learnt to become a better all—round player really and i think that's why i'm still at the top. these are live pictures from ally pally, where the second of the semifinals is underway. the 2019 champion, judd trump, is playing the 2020 winner, stuart bingham. trump is at the table right now, you can see he's 30 points to the good

in the third frame and he won the first two frames. you can follow that across the bbc. if your new year's resolution was to get fit, then george sagar could give you a bit of inspiration — whatever age you are. the 83—year—old has picked up quite a big online following after posting his gym workouts. i can train as hard as anybody in this gem, i can lift more weight than most people in the gym and i love every minute of it. at the age of 83, george sagar from barnsley is fighting fit and in much better shape than three decades ago. what did you look like in your 50s? oh, 20 stone. massive. i looked like humpty dumpty. my wife, who i am married to now, was walking, i was out of breath, she put a finger in my stomach and she said "back to the gym". and i went back to the gym at 50. i weighed 20, nearly 21 stone,

and i am now 16 and a half stone. until they put screws in my coffin i will never stop training because i love it. hi folks, george sagar, 86—year—old powerhouse. george is now a social media sensation racking up 400,000 views on one of his tik tok videos. people can't believe that he is 83. i've had people come up to me and they say, are you sure that's your father and not your brother, which is really nice! but i think it'sjust that he is so old and he does lift a lot of weight. i think people like that, and his positive attitude as well. i'm getting stopped in the street now, i'm getting noticed in the supermarkets! if george can do it, how hard can it be? flipping heck! you got to lay down and push them 28 times. 28? you're not doing it. it's too heavy for you. i can't even do my right arm. how do you do it, george?
7:56 pm
easy. george works out at muscle factory in swinton three days a week and has the respect of gym—goers a third of his age. inspiration. hopefully in 50 years when i am nearly his age i can still be doing the same things. it's become a passion for him, - probably more so than a lot of young lads in here and a lot of them look at him even though it's mad - that he is probably 60 or 70 years older than some of the guys - that training here. hi folks, george sagar, 83—year—old powerhouse. george has now set himself the challenge of flipping a giant tire across the width of a football pitch. the powerhouse hoping to inspire older people like him to get active. have a look on the website, lots of

reaction to manchester and everton losing again. lots more on the website. from me and the rest of the team, goodbye. hello. our forecasts are very much being about the rain so far this january. we're not even halfway through the month and some spots have already seen close to a month and a half's worth of rainfall. cardiff, for example. in the days ahead, though, it will be relatively dry, but it's going to turn much colder. things have already started to become chillier across the uk through saturday as we've started to pick up a northwesterly airstream. late sunday into monday though, into a direct northerly airstream and arctic air, we all go. we still don't have a lot of water lying about and numerous flood warnings in place. so do keep up to date with those on our website. but instead of rain, it's going to be looking out for snow,
7:58 pm
i suspect in the days ahead. that will be our major forecasting headache. we're going to have this little weather system drifting its way south overnight, the centre of our low pressure up here to the northeast, quite windy around that low gales for the south west of scotland, to the north of northern ireland, wintry showers feeding in to scotland, maybe even down to lower levels. and out of this system, perhaps a little bit of snow across snowdonia for the lake district, perhaps across the pennines, but generally still with the strength of the wind, it's not quite cold enough for us to see a widespread frost across england and wales. so it'll mostly be showers of rain we see on that little weather system as it trickles its way south through sunday morning and tends to fade out actually. so i think quite a lot of sunshine to come across england and wales away from western coasts through the day on sunday. some more snow showers for the far north west of scotland. a chillier day for all. the winds actually ease back through the day, but highs, sixes and sevens to the south of the uk, some parts of scotland away from the coast, temperatures will not get above freezing. and then overnight sunday into monday, you can see a weather system there rolling through close
7:59 pm
to the south coast. the cold air at this stage is digging its way south. as the two come together, there is uncertainty where we may see perhaps something a little bit more significant in the way of snow for first thing on monday, perhaps across the downs, the weald of kent. please stay tuned because we will be able to pin that down closer to the time. same story though, monday night into tuesday, that big low up there to the northeast. but these little features running around to the bottom of it, making it very difficult to pinpoint exactly where we could see wintry weather in terms of the timing in our forecast, but colder certainly for all this week.
