the financial crisis in english domestic rugby that led to the demise of worcester and wasps has been called a *stain on the reputation' on the game. the parliamentary committee that investigated the issues in the sport have released a damning report on the problems it faces. 0ur sports news correspondent laura scott has been telling me more. the committee were pretty scathing about the circumstances that had led to the demise of both worcester and wasps and specifically aimed their criticism at the role that the administrators of the game, the rugby football union and the primary rugby football union and the primary rugby had played in all of this. they essentially said that the finances within partnership rugby are clearly unsustainable. and they said the handling of this, the collapse of two clubs in the middle of the season but they stain on the reputation of the sport so the authorities feel the english club rugby at the top level is in

disarray and that there is what they call an art leadership. what they pointed to in this report is what they perceive to be a lack of safeguards in place to prevent clubs going into the kind of difficulties that we saw at both worcester and wasps. yes the circumstances are unique to both of those clubs but i think it was the lack of overall governance structures and financial monitoring and space that they felt to be particularly damaging. essentially they feel that all of this could have been avoided if both the rfq this could have been avoided if both the rfc) and prl had acted sooner and if there were better safeguards in place. as is a hugely critical of the game's leadership but what of those people on the end of the criticism how to say in response? i think what they have pointed to is that at the crux of it, it is an independent company but they have acknowledged that there is a need for oversight from both prl and rfu
