but stayed mild, five to 8 degrees. mild but cloudy is how we start. this is how saturday looks. it may be the cloud breaks a little bit across parts of the midlands and southern england as we go through into the afternoon. a little more in the way of sunshine. at the same time, this band of rain pushes in across scotland and into northern ireland. ahead of that rain band, it is very mild again, ten, 11, i2 is very mild again, ten, 11, 12 degrees. behind that rain band, something of a change. it starts to feel a little chilly because this band of rain is associated with a cold front. as that pushes south east, the air turns cold. at the same time, we see this big area of high pressure building on top of the uk for sunday morning, so we start sunday, the second half of the weekend, on a colder know, but a brighter know. a very different feeling, but very different —looking day. when you look at the map and you don't see cloud, that is where we expect sunshine. and they should be plenty of it. despite the

6:34 pm
ireland are the number one team in the world and they begin their campaign against wales. they beat the all blacks last summer and they had a phenomenal international series. as for wales, they've gone back to warren gatland — he was brilliant leading them to the three grand slam titles in his first spell in over a decade, here in cardiff, looking after the welsh national team. but it is wales who really went off the rails last year, losing to italy at the end of the six nations, losing to georgia in the autumn internationals, spelling the end of wayne p back*s time in charge. can warren gatland rediscover that mastic, find the spark to get wales going again? wales against ireland here tomorrow in this magnificent stadium — that will provide some relief, however brief for the welsh rugby union. it wasjust under a

brief for the welsh rugby union. it was just under a fortnight ago that bbc wales investigates programme highlighted issues of a toxic culture within the union of misogyny, sexism and racism, an external task force has been set up and they'll examine all those accusations. it's against that backdrop that welsh players have had to prepare for their campaign against ireland, it starts tomorrow. obvious he disappointed over what's come out in the last two weeks. but for us, the only thing we can control tomorrow is the performance, to put pride back into the welsh shirt after what's been a tough couple of years with consistency. but put a bit of pride back into the shirt, a bit of pride and respect back into welsh rugby, and the only way we can do that is to deliver a performance worthy of the redshirt.
6:36 pm
we will talk more about wales with nigel walker in a couple of minutes, but let's focus on ireland briefly who come here with a big target on their backs as the number one side in the world. but it hasn't been a great place for them to come at principality stadium, they haven't won here in the championship in cardiff in ten years. it doesn't really get any tougher than the — it doesn't really get any tougher than the wales first up. everyone spoke _ than the wales first up. everyone spoke over— than the wales first up. everyone spoke over the last two weeks about the record. — spoke over the last two weeks about the record, you know, and my record's— the record, you know, and my record's hot— the record, you know, and my record's not great down there. thinking — record's not great down there. thinking back, i lost over saracens, they played — thinking back, i lost over saracens, they played a league game there, and i lost there. _ they played a league game there, and i lost there, as well. so we know it's a _ i lost there, as well. so we know it's a realty— i lost there, as well. so we know it's a really tough place to go. but that's— it's a really tough place to go. but that's whet— it's a really tough place to go. but that's what we want, that's where we want to— that's what we want, that's where we want to be, _ that's what we want, that's where we want to be, and challenge ourselves. what i _ want to be, and challenge ourselves. what i would say is we judge ourselves on our preparation, and ourselves on our preparation, and our preparation has been top drawer, it's as _ our preparation has been top drawer, it's as good _ our preparation has been top drawer, it's as good as i've seen it. so

problem — they're not sure it'll withstand legal scrutiny, they think they'll lose legal challenges because of the country's equalities laws, although the country disputes that. whilst this is in line, the uk line is in line... with banning transgender woman from female events. it is at odds with the sport's global authority, global athletics have said recently that their preferred option is to allow transgender woman to continue in the female category, but with their testosterone levels limited to 2.5 nanomoles per litre. they've said that that is open to discussion and consultation, and a final decision will be made in march.— will be made in march. deeply emotive subject, _ will be made in march. deeply emotive subject, what's - will be made in march. deeply emotive subject, what's the i will be made in march. deeply - emotive subject, what's the reaction been? emotive sub'ect, what's the reaction been? ~ * p, p, emotive sub'ect, what's the reaction been? ~ * . ., , ., emotive sub'ect, what's the reaction been? . * . ., , ., ., been? we've had a statement from the covernment been? we've had a statement from the

manchester united manager erik ten hag has asked his team to focus on football after one of the club's players mason greenwood had all criminal charges against him dropped. greenwood had denied the charges of attemped rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour. he'd been due to face trial in november this year and said he was "relieved". he thanked his family and friends for supporting him. united say they'll "conduct their own process" before deciding what to do next. erik ten hag was asked about greenwood at his press conference earlier, and said he didn't have anything to add beyond the club's statement. no, nothing. ican no, nothing. i can add nothing. i referto no, nothing. i can add nothing. i refer to the statement of the club. have you ever spoken to mason, or matt mason, — have you ever spoken to mason, or matt mason, and _ have you ever spoken to mason, or matt mason, and will— have you ever spoken to mason, or matt mason, and will you _ have you ever spoken to mason, or matt mason, and will you be - have you ever spoken to mason, or matt mason, and will you be part. have you ever spoken to mason, or| matt mason, and will you be part of the process— matt mason, and will you be part of the process that _

evening. but they've been outstanding and i think they can look into this game and think, victory going into the weekend would be a huge achievement. they've only ever one here twice, back in 1964 and 1979. so i think they could be quite lively on the kings road if they could make it a third time. we're going to stay with tennis, because great britain get their davis cup—qualifying tie against colombia under way this evening. on paper, it sounds like a good tie for a team that includes cam norrie and dan evans, but it could prove a lot trickier in the high altitude naear bogota. our tennis correspondent russell fuller is with us. remind us where we're at with the davis cup and it matters? this is for the davis cup finals themselves which has spread over two weeks at the back end of the year. so if great britain win this tie, they'll host the finals group stage, and
6:53 pm
they will host one of those groups in glasgow in september, and the top two teams from the four teams that compete there go on to qualify for the knockout stage in the finals, which are in malaga at the end of november. so this determines where the countries will have the davis cup to look forward to in 2023. on paper, great britain are so much stronger then columbia. dan evans and cameron norrie, all top 40 players — the top colombian player is nicholas mojica, the world number 253 who will play dan evans. he's 35 years old and outside the world's top 500. he has to come against cameron norrie. what columbia will be hoping for is at their great knowledge of playing at altitude, 206 metres above sea level and also pressure loose balls will make a big

6:56 pm
by scoring green goals for things like ditching single—use plastics, swapping the bus for a bike, or beef for broccoli. the midfielder has completed more than 260 activities this season, which organisers say could equate to half a tonne's saving of carbon emissions. i go on walks, i see plastic and pick it up. if i can bring a change to five young kids it's going to make a change in the world and there's hundreds, thousands of footballers so if we all do our bit and get some more awareness and education out there we can do something. this weekend teams across the footballing pyramids, including manchester united, liverpool and tottenham are making the issue of climate change part of their match day agenda, as will championship leaders burnley. sunday league games are affected all the time by pitches being flooded, people get trains cancelled because of the heat. the players talk about what they do as individuals, or as the full team, it can only serve as a positive to make people think. football has come and continues
6:57 pm
to use its reach to effect social change, tackling racism, homophobia and now climate change, which could be its biggest challenge yet. football at the moment i is an unsustainable practice. looking at the fixture schedule would be a good start. - you know, we are seeing games every three days. | it's incredibly intensive and that| obviously means that clubs have to rely on more carbon intensive| forms of transport like air travel. turning down your heating and wearing more in the layer up challenge is another way fans can get involved in the green football weekend. organisers say we all have a part to play — a green goal might score points for your team, but it's a win for everyone. nesta mcgregor, bbc news. green football weekend coming up across the weekend. that's all from sportsday.
6:58 pm
