1:01 am
florida, where we're expecting to hear from donald trump shortly, after he pleaded not guilty to sa criminal charges at a court hearing in new york. he's accused of falsifying records to conceal crimes. we understand that the people who have entered the room already, among those who are in the room are members of trump's family including donjrand family including donjr and tiffany family including donjrand tiffany trump, high—ranking members of congress, matt gates and marjorie taylor greene, we understand our also big supporters of the president, we are waiting to see when that speech will start, we are expecting at about 15 minutes past the hour. let's take us through what has happened today. this was in new york this morning, donald trump left trump tower, travelled down town and turned himself in and turned himself in an a courthouse in lower manhattan. he waved to crowds but he did

not make any comment. no video cameras were allowed inside the courtroom during his appearance, but we do have these photos. it was here that donald trump pleaded not guilty to sa counts of falsifying business records. this was around an hour later, he left the courthouse. from there he boarded a private plane bound for florida. several hours later, just before 7pm local time, the former us president touched down. here he was greeted by supporters as he drove to his home in mar—a—lago. which brings us to now. because the new yorkjudge did not impose a gag order, the former us president is allowed to speak about his case. and tonight, we expect him to do just that. those again are those live pictures from mar—a—lago, we are waiting for that speech to begin there. we are going to be discussing this with our many guests. joining me in the studio to discuss what's happened and what's to come, we have katty kay, our us

but they have made it pretty clear that they don't think there is a valid case against there is a valid case against the former president, they think this is a politically motivated case by a democratic district attorney in new york who was looking for a crime to fit the bill of managing to charge donald trump and i suspect that is what donald trump will come out and say, he will exonerate and say i am not guilty, there is no real charger that is going to hold up charger that is going to hold up in court and there i am going to fight this all the way, this is what has lawyers have been telling us.- have been telling us. brian, what do you _ have been telling us. brian, what do you think _ have been telling us. brian, what do you think going - have been telling us. brian, what do you think going to l have been telling us. brian, - what do you think going to hear from the president? he what do you think going to hear from the president?— from the president? he only knows one — from the president? he only knows one mode _ from the president? he only knows one mode and - from the president? he only knows one mode and that i from the president? he only knows one mode and that is| knows one mode and that is fighting, whether it is fighting, whether it is fighting to grab the newspaper in the morning or it is fighting robert mueller with his investigations. has entire business venture has always been fighting, fighting, fighting, so you are going to see a very defiant donald trump, he will probably raise a tremendous amount of money tonight, he will use the

1:11 am
which was determined to be untrue. donald trump is also accused of violating state and federal election laws and he is accused of using what is called accused of using what is called a catch and kill scheme to identify, purchase and very negative information about how members has electoral prospects. stephanie, you were a defence attorney as well so tell me how this looks from a perspective of donald trump's defence team?— defence team? well, it's interesting _ defence team? well, it's interesting you _ defence team? well, it's interesting you say - defence team? well, it's interesting you say as i defence team? well, it's interesting you say as a l interesting you say as a defence attorney but the first thing that came to my mind is as a former candidate. as a candidate, i did opposition research. we paid a lot of money for opposition research and it was a campaign expense, and it was a campaign expense, and the type of catch and kill that you are talking about with these stories is very similar to, not that you pay off people but that you try to find information that could be helpful or you try to find if
1:12 am
there is anything out there about yourself that could be hurtful in a campaign. and you deal with that. those are specifically campaign related expenses so he is going to have a hard time getting around that. that being said, in the court of public opinion especially with his supporters, if he says that he did it to make sure that he did not embarrass the former first lady, that line will appeal to many of his supporters. i saw brian here — many of his supporters. i saw brian here raising _ many of his supporters. i saw brian here raising his - many of his supporters. i saw. brian here raising his eyebrows during that answers thy want to let you respond to that. i during that answers thy want to let you respond to that.- let you respond to that. i was a democrat — let you respond to that. i was a democrat during _ let you respond to that. i was a democrat during clinton i let you respond to that. i was i a democrat during clinton gore when _ a democrat during clinton gore when he — a democrat during clinton gore when he lied under oath and the media _ when he lied under oath and the media was— when he lied under oath and the media was saying it's a personal matter, who cares that he lied _ personal matter, who cares that he lied under oath and created a felony— he lied under oath and created a felony and now we have this outrage — a felony and now we have this outrage of trump potentially paid — outrage of trump potentially paid off _ outrage of trump potentially paid off a mistress. it seems like — paid off a mistress. it seems like a — paid off a mistress. it seems like a stretch for me, i think the — like a stretch for me, i think the public has seen it as a

running mate should he get that far. so at the moment it is quite electrified waiting for mr trump to enter and unsurprisingly mrtrump to enterand unsurprisingly i think as i have been chatting with people they have all voiced the same opinion that this is a travesty of justice, opinion that this is a travesty ofjustice, they don't have a case, that it is clearly aimed at damaging mr donald trump's political career, taking him out of politics but they also equally certain that it will only give his political life a boost. ~ * . . ~ only give his political life a boost. ~ * , ., ,, ., boost. we've been talking about this. boost. we've been talking about this- what _ boost. we've been talking about this. what do — boost. we've been talking about this. what do people _ boost. we've been talking about this. what do people they i boost. we've been talking about this. what do people they want l this. what do people they want to hear from the former president?— to hear from the former president? to hear from the former resident? , president? one well-nigh spoke to said she _ president? one well-nigh spoke to said she thought _ president? one well-nigh spoke to said she thought it _ president? one well-nigh spoke to said she thought it was i to said she thought it was important he speak tonight because his supporters around the country wanted to hear from him, do know he was still able, he is still their leader, ready to leave the country, especially after the date he has had. i think that is one element of it. another person i spoke with said this could

probably be the sort of template for the campaign, the campaign is going to go forward and what he says here tonight may be a big part of our he proceeds with his speeches and the rallies and events to come. they all felt again that it was going to be something that would only help his political career, not damaging to mulberry do expect is for him to give a full throated defence of himself, protest his innocence, say that he is the victim, say this is politically motivated. that's what he has been saying on social media in various ways since the indictment came through and thatis indictment came through and that is the message of both his legal and political team as well. ii legal and political team as well. , ., legal and political team as well. ., ., well. if you could zoom out for us, it's well. if you could zoom out for us. it's been — well. if you could zoom out for us, it's been pretty _ us, it's been pretty remarkable, more than 2a hours. you been watching much of it, before donald trump left for new york and now he's arrived back. what has it been like at

1:18 am
the bridge, just inside mar—a—lago and other places was really quite tempered. it wasn't much more than a handful, a dozen, two dozen people at once. we can see a lot of people here tonight and more at the airport but you didn't get the sense of an overwhelming surge of supporters coming to his defence, at least not physically, just outside the club. physically, 'ust outside the club. ~ , ., ., club. we will let you go because _ club. we will let you go because we _ club. we will let you go because we know i club. we will let you go i because we know president club. we will let you go _ because we know president trump is expected to speak at any moment, we will be going live to that when he does arrived to deliver that speech. thank you, barbara. i'd like to get you to weigh in on this. it was very much a who's who of supporters there. kari lake, somebody you interviewed. what is your impression of all the republican lawmakers and supporters have showed up for this evening? it’s supporters have showed up for this evening?— this evening? it's been really interesting — this evening? it's been really interesting to _ this evening? it's been really interesting to watch - interesting to watch republicans over the course of the last week because even
