what is this too is for the hello, i'm olly foster, here's what's coming up on sportsday. arsenal drop points at liverpool to reignite manchester city's ttile hopes. what a night for the knight riders as singh smashes five sixes in a row for victory.
12:46 am
and there's revenge for ons jabeur as she claims victory in charleston. hello and thanks for joining us, here's your latest sports news. hello there, we'll start with football because was this the weekend that the premier league title race swung back towards the holders manchester city. leaders arsenal were looking for their eighth league win in a row, but threw away a 2—goal lead to draw 2—all with liverpool at anfield. gabriel martinelli and gabriel jesus put the gunners 2—up inside half an hour. mo salah pulled one back by the break and also missed a penalty early in the second half, dragging his spot—kick wide of the post. substitute roberto firmino scored the equaliser inside the last 5 minutes and liverpool were denied victory by a number of stunning saves from keeper aaron ramsdale. i imagine for the outside world it was a great game to watch.
12:47 am
we started it really well and were dominant in the half and continued playing, scored the second and then just before half time we conceded the goal and we gave liverpool some momentum. i think we started the second half the first few minutes good and then lost control. we gave a lot of balls away and the game became really open and we have a lot of transition and play and open spaces to defend. and we needed a lot of resilience into goalkeeping and the right moment and then we had three or four big opportunities in the counter where we could have had the game and the end it is probably fair results. it would have been cool to win this game 3—2 and it would have been deserved so that is fine. when you are early in the game 2—0 down against arsenal, so many things can happen. you could break down and get their third, fourth, and fifth and then everything would be a catastrophe. so we saved it
12:48 am
and that is good. and from here we can go. just staying with that game at anfield, refereeing chiefs are investigating after liverpool's andy roberston appeared to be elbowed by one of the assistants constantine hatzidakis at halftime. robertson was remonstrating with the linesman who then raised his arm and made contact with the defender. the pgmol say they are aware of the incident and will review the matter in full. robertson was subsequentlky booked for his reaction. one of 8 yellow cards shown in the game that had a number of flashpoints. it's really tight towards the bottom of the table, there was a huge win for crystal palace, 5—1 at leeds united. that moves palace up to 12th, leeds remain 2 points above the relegation zone. leeds actually took the lead through patrick bamford but palace levelled just before the break through marc guehi and leeds unravelled in the second half, jordan ayew scored twice, eberechi eze and odsonne edouard were also on the scoresheet for palace. that's two wins out of two for them since roy hodgson
12:49 am
returned to palace, and they are 6 points above the relegation zone. this is a good day, but it will not be good days forever. i have been lucky so far. had an excellent few, four weeks of training which i have really enjoyed. i've seen the team play well in the matches. so i suppose if i were a younger, less cynical person, i may be enjoying it more than i am because i still have an eye on the fact that we are not clear yet from the relegation zone. this can change and you can win to win a row as you
12:50 am
know, you could lose as many as five or six in a row. i'm going to make certain that the good things we did today throughout the game and in particular may be for the last ten minutes of the first half and the second half. we need to reproduce that. and it is so easy as a coach or manager to say that is what we have to do, but it is an effort from the players side. they take on the message, when you tell them that they don't disagree with you but they have to somehow summon up the energy and concentration and focus, the determination to get out and do it. and that's definite what thety did today. the second half was the worst moment from my arrival because from the rest of the teams, the rest of the game, sorry, the first half we always competed but today was different. this is how the top of the table looks. arsenal are now 6 points clear of manchester city but they have played a game more and face city later this month. city, manchester united newcastle united and spurs all won this weekend. the fight for a top four finish
12:51 am
hotting up between those three. the relegation battle is the tighest in years, palace will be confident of staying out of it, but from wolves down, no—one is safe. west ham the only side with a game in hand, westham the only side with a game in hand, that could be crucial. southampton are four points adrift of safety. to spain's la liga where atletico madrid continue their brilliant recent form. they are unbeaten now in 12 games after sunday's 2—1 win over io—man rayo vallecano. mario hermoso with the decisive goal. atletico stay in 3rd place but are now two points behind second placed real madrid. here are sunday's results in la liga. a penalty deep into stoppage time helped mallorca to a 3—3 draw in a dramatic game at strugglers valladolid. cadiz eased their relegation concerns with a win over 9—man real betis. as did almeria with a 2—1 win over valencia who remain two points from safety. in the germanny bayern munich remain top of the bundeliga by 2 points, sundays games saw the focus switch to the other
12:52 am
end of the table stuttgart hadn't won away in the league for 23 matches but are off the bottom after winning 3—2 away at relegation rivals bochum. borussia monchengladbach beat wolfsburg by 2 goals to nil, whilst schalke are now bottom of the table losing to hoffenheim by the same score. there were two games in the the indian premier league on sunday. there was an amazing finish as kolkata knight riders beat the gujurat titans by 3 wickets. chasing 205, knight riders needed an implausible 29 off the final over but rinku singh hit five sixes in a row for the victory, clearing the ropes off the final delivery, yash dayal was the unfortunate bowler. kolkata are now sitting second in the table i'll be honest with you. i thought we cannot win it from here. not everyone ruled this out.
12:53 am
to score 40—45 off of three overs with not a lot of backing come of course. but i do not believe that it could happen, but when we knew that yash was going to pull the last bowl, he is an amazing bowler but today was not his night. and when the second six happened, we knew that we can actually win this game and god always gives these moments people with golden hearts and i'm with someone everyone likes and i'm really happy god has given him this very moment. until that particular point we were in the game or things things are bound to happen in except that this is a game of cricket and t20 and think it happened and i think he pulled off a brilliant for them. so as a cricketer i definitely would, i can be and think in
12:54 am
his position. i can be in his place and how he feels now so it isjust about how we back him and how we help them to knock them out of the situation. not as much drama as sunrisers hyderabad got their first win of this years ipl with a very comfortable win over punjab kings. the kings captain shikhar dhawan was unbeaten on 99 as they made 143 for 9. sunrisers had no problems at all knocking that off. rahul tripathi with a quick fire 7a as they completed the run chase with almost 3 overs to spare. the semi—final line up is complete in rugby union's champions cup. saracen*s european dream is over after defeat to the holders la rochelle in their quarter final. the three time champions lost 24—10. tawera kerr—barlow with two tries from the french side, la rochelle won the champions cup for the first time last year and are aiming to reach a third consecutive final. they face another english side exeter in the semi—finals at the end of the month. leinster play toulouse in the other semi—final. world number five ons jabeur claimed herfirst title of the season

with victory over belinda bencic at the charleston open. tunisia's jabeur, runner—up at wimbledon and the us open in 2022, beat the swiss 7—6; 6—4 for her fourth wta title and second on clay. this was a repeat of last years final that jabeur lost. bencic had to play two matches on sunday, completing a rain—interrupted semi—final againstjessica pegula before facing jabeur half an hour later. elsewhere, world number five casper ruud beat miomir kecmanovic to win the estoril open and claim his first title of the year. its the world number five's 10th career title and will be enough to move him back up to fourth in the rankings on monday. ferrari's charles leclerc has asked fans to respect his privacy and stop turning up outside his monaco apartment. the 25—year—old said his address has recently become public, leading to fans gathering outside and ringing the bell.
12:56 am
leclerc said he was fine with people approaching him in public but wants them to stay away from his home. he had his watch stolen in italy last year as he posed for a selfie with two people wearing scooter helmets. you can find much more on the bbc sport website, including the latest from the masters, but from me olly foster and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, that's all for now. hello. compared to the week gone, the week ahead looks different weather—wise and that there'll be more rain around. rain totals totting up right across the country as this chart shows. but where we see the green colours appear, the hills of wales, parts of scotland, we could see 60—80mm of rain before the week is out. notjust wet, it's going to be windy at times. some of the windiest conditions will be through tuesday and into wednesday around some of these western areas.
12:57 am
gusts of wind maybe up to 60mph. bear that in mind, if you've got any of this week under canvas or if you're on the move. now, the change to the more unsettled and changeable conditions has already started, this weather front pushing eastwards overnight into the morning, bringing outbreaks of rain for all. through the morning, some of the wettest conditions will be across the south and east of the uk. quite abundant rain to begin with, but don't write your day off, sunshine will come out. there'll be a scattering of showers across the country through the day, showers most frequent through the afternoon, northern england and northern ireland, as well as the highlands of scotland. winds going into a more westerly direction through into the afternoon, gusty in the south, it will make it feel a bit cooler for some of you compared with today, but for the likes of east of scotland, it'll actually feel a bit warmer with a bit more sunshine. now, as we go into tuesday morning, we'll see showers gradually fade away overnight, and it will be a chilly start to tuesday. only i—2 showers continuing, and we'll get used to some colder nights through this week at times. but actually, a reasonably pleasant day for some on tuesday. to the north and east
12:58 am
of the country, save just i—2 isolated showers, a lot of dry weather, some will stay dry throughout the day. to the south and the west, though, make the most of the morning brightness because the afternoon turning cloudier, wetter, and also windier, gales in the southwest before the day is out. temperatures again dropping just a little bit. and that brings us into our windiest spell of weather this week, tuesday night into wednesday, deepening area of low pressure pushing across, a pretty wet night through the uk to take us through tuesday night into wednesday. the rain persisting in parts of northeast scotland with some snow over the mountains as we go through wednesday. but south of that, we'll see a mixture of sunshine, heavy thundery showers with hail mixed in, as well. a little bit of brightness here and there. but it's going to be a windy day across the board with winds touching 50—60mph, as i said, in the south. and that will make it feel distinctly cool. those windy conditions will last as we go through wednesday night and into thursday. that low pressure gradually pulls away, but another wet and windy low hits the south on friday. take care.
